Chapel Porth Beach, near St Agnes

Chapel Porth Beach, near St Agnes

With dramatic craggy cliffs, pure golden sands, the roar of the Atlantic and tin mines aplenty, it’s not surprising Chapel Porth is a much-photographed spot. At low tide, explore the rock pools and caves and make the most of the beach. The surf is great here too when conditions are right. At high tide head to the cliffs and take the coastal path towards St Agnes for fabulous views.

Owned by The National Trust, Chapel Porth has a handy car park from which you can make your way along the path up over the cliffs, past the iconic Wheal Coates which stands dramatically above the beach. If you’re feeling active, take the two-mile walk to St Agnes where you’ll experience some of the best sea views in Cornwall.

After your walk, relax on the golden sands of the beach. Kids (and grown-ups) will love the rock pools and caves which are accessible at low tide, whilst surf-lovers will enjoy this spot when the conditions are right.

If you’re feeling peckish, head to the cafe which serves all the goodies you expect, from sandwiches and pasties to cream teas and cakes. Leave room for one of their trademark ‘hedgehog’ ice creams –the best Cornish ice cream covered in clotted cream and rolled in crushed hazelnuts. Well, when in Rome.....!

Dogs are welcome on the beach except between Easter Sunday and the 30th September when the seasonal dog ban is in place.
