Whitsand Bay Beach, Cornwall

Whitsand Bay Beach, Cornwall

South-eastern Cornwall has been often overlooked compared to the north and west coast, but it has plenty to offer and is fast becoming the newest hotspot in the west. Four beaches make up this gorgeous stretch of Whitsand Bay, offering fabulous walks (or jogging if you’re feeling super-energetic), a great swell for surfers, rockpooling or perfect conditions for a lazy picnic.

Reached by steep paths and steps, it can be off-putting to some as care should be taken climbing up and down, but it’s well worth it- this stretch is rarely busy and considerably quieter than other parts of Cornwall. It’s also a popular dive spot; the area is home to the remains of HMS Scylla, an ex-naval frigate sunk in 2004 to form an artificial reef. When the tides are in, the beach is mostly covered up, but you can walk on the cliffs and enjoy lunch or dinner at award-winning The View.
