For those wanting a thrill deep in the depths of Hampshire, you can spend the day at the renowned National Motor Museum. Home to a ginormous range of vehicles from some of the very first cars to ever drive to classic old family saloons to legendary F1 races; you’re bound to spot one of your favourite motors or perhaps see something entirely new.
The Museum was first founded back in 1952 by Edward Douglas Scott Montagu as a tribute to his father, a motoring pioneer of the time in Britain. Originally only consisted of five cars and a few bits of memorabilia, the museum grew rapidly over the years and by 1964 the annual attendance of the museum was well over half a million. It was at this point that the purpose-built facility for the museum came to life at the Beaulieu Estate; nowadays this impressive establishment has over 250 vehicles to enjoy, with some dating all the way back to the late 1800s.
Memorabilia, books, photos, films, journals and much more; not only is the museum a celebration of the cars themselves but also of their engineering and history. Discover both old and new treasures and what an impact they had culturally and historically. New for 2018 was the museums luxury motoring exhibit which displayed the Lalique Collection, some of the most expensive and high-end cars ever built as well as some unique key features such as vanity cases, accessories and pieces of clothing which were essential for the luxury lifestyle.
One of the museums most favourite attractions is its fun collection of ‘On Screen Cars’ from iconic films and shows like James Bond and the BBC Sitcom Only Fools and Horses. The Museum also has its spectacular World of Top Gear which boasts a range of challenge cars straight from the film set – scratches, dents and all! Spot your favourite vehicle from your favourite season and get up close and personal, indulging in the shows 40-year history.
Whether you’re a motor enthusiastic, have your own classic car or want to see well-loved cars from the tele, head to Beaulieu National Motor Museum – the fun kind of museum!
