Fun and fabulousness at Trevail House in Fowey

Fun and fabulousness at Trevail House in Fowey

We’ve been looking forward to a week off to relax for months, and what a way to start our break, a weekend at Trevail House in Fowey. When we arrive, we’re blown away, the style, grandeur and sheer size of what was once the old Lloyds bank. We start exploring, it goes up and up with beautifully wide staircases, the view just gets better and better. We’re so excited and can’t believe we’re staying here for the whole weekend, what a treat.

We’re starving after a long day at work, so we pop out for an easy fish and chip dinner (it has to be done when on holiday by the sea), we have a wonder around the streets of Fowey, I’ve got my eye on quite a few little boutique shops, gorgeous clothes and beautiful home ware, I can’t wait to have a proper look tomorrow. After a lovely stroll, we head back to the house, surely it’s gin o’clock by now.. and we simply must try out the downstairs kitchen.. (yes, there are two kitchens at Trevail House), the downstairs kitchen is conveniently located on the ground floor with bi-folding doors which lead out on to the gorgeous river side terrace, with a view to die for.. perfect for alfresco dining or in our case, cocktail making! The suns going down and we cosy up in the TV snug with a film and a G&T, the perfect start to our relaxing weekend.

I wake up after an epic sleep, the bed is so comfortable I could have slept for days... It’s time to pull up the blinds and take another look at my favourite view.. the little colourful boats bobbing around on the water below, I never want leave!

The sun is shining, it’s got to be coffee on the top terrace this morning, listening the sound of the seagulls and watching the world go by on the water, there’s always something to see, it’s quite mesmerising.

After a wonderful rainfall shower in the en-suite, we’re ready for breakfast… although it’s almost lunchtime.. (whoops)… we whip up some eggs, bacon and avocado and enjoy a champagne breakfast on the terrace… when in Rome!

The plan for this afternoon is a wonder around the pretty streets, and catch the little ferry over to Polruan, then back to the house for some dinner and another cosy night in, we’re really starting to get used to this relaxing thing.

I’m in heaven, my favourite shop has got to be Brocante for interiors and home ware and The Clementine for just loads of gorgeous things, perfect for gifts, you must pop in if you get a chance!

We make our way up to the ferry, conveniently they run every 5 minutes, and it’s only a short walk from the house, after a short wait we pop ourselves on board and off we go. Polruan is equally as pretty as Fowey, it’s tiny streets are so charming, you can really feel the history of this beautiful old fishing village, it’s almost like stepping back in time. We visit St Saviours ruin and then popped to The Lugger Inn for a quick beer, the food looks absolutely delicious, I was tempted to stay for dinner.. but we’d already planned food for the evening back at the house… maybe next time!

We get back and relax with a cuppa before making a start on dinner, I’m making my famous risotto. The kitchen is fantastic, fully equipped with everything you could possible need, it makes life so much easier on holiday! The risotto is so tasty, apparently, I excelled myself on this one.

Desert is chocolate cheesecake and hot chocolate, we decide as it’s such a nice evening we’ll light the free pit and enjoy our chocolate delights with a view. Once it’s almost dark, we retire once again to the cosy TV snug and watch some Netflix before heading off to bed.

Another amazing nights sleep, we have a bit of a lazy morning.. once we’re ready for the day we pop out and wonder the streets of Fowey again, this time we head up The Esplanade to see the view from the top of Fowey, it’s spectacular.
After lots of walking, we decide it’s time for something to eat, we decide on the funky restaurant in the middle of town called ‘Sam’s’, the food is fantastic and fills a big hole. It’s almost the end of the trip, we head back to the house and make a start on tidying up and packing our things ready for a smooth departure in the morning.

One last evening in the house deserves a bottle of red and some tasty cheese... it’s been absolute bliss here at Trevail House, I feel very lucky to have experienced a stay here and would highly recommend the property as a wonderful place to stay in Fowey.
