Take yourself and your loved ones to this beautiful home by the water. A stunning, traditional two-hundred-year-old Cornish stone cottage directly on the water, it boasts a host of features such as a launch slipway, two large gardens, hot tub, Shepherd's Hut and Summerhouse, making it the perfect retreat for water-loving families or friends looking for a coastal getaway. Once inside, you'll find a characterful home with bags of original features such as beamed ceilings and flag floors, whilst there are luxuriously modern touches too from the fabulously equipped kitchen, two toasty wood burners and the super comfy and welcoming bedrooms. Ideally located on the pretty South Cornish coast, Riverside Cottage is close to popular Fowey, Polperro, The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan - plus of course the gorgeous coastline with sandy beaches just twenty minutes away. The pub and local shop is accessible by crossing the stepping stones - a unique journey and one that doesn't involve a car! The cottage is also just a ten-minute drive away from Lostwithiel station, so it's easy to get to if you choose not to drive.

Living

The tranquil sitting room is perfectly lovely with pretty river views and gorgeous original features such as the beamed ceiling, flagstone floor and exposed stone feature fireplace with roaring wood burning stove - perfect for colder months. There's a large, comfy sofa plus two occasional chairs, making it the go-to spot for gathering together and relaxing, plus a door leading into the garden - ideal for letting in the summer breeze on hot days. You'll also find a lovely reading area with two sumptuous chairs - the perfect spot to curl up with your book and a glass of something fantastic in hand.

Eating

The wonderful kitchen-dining room is made for entertaining. With flagstone floors and tones of white, grey and natural wood, this is a lovely spot with the spacious country kitchen dining table for eight and the fabulous wood burning stove taking centre stage. We just love the dual-aspect window and Velux windows which let in lashings of sunlight. The spacious kitchen with white cabinets is just a dream to cook in, being home to a large five-ring stove with oven and microwave, dishwasher, two fridges, freezer, and lots of extras such as a Espresso coffee machine and a Nutribullet - enough to satisfy even the pickiest of chefs. In addition, there's a laundry room where you'll find a freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Sleeping

Take the stairs and you'll discover three dreamy bedrooms to choose from. The en suite master bedroom, with river views, wrought iron super-king size bed, exposed wooden floor, built in wardrobes and calm colours, is the ultimate bolt hole to retreat to at the end of the day. The second bedroom, also looking over the water, is a divine king size bedroom with built in wardrobes and a dressing table. The third bedroom to the back with dual-aspect windows is a zip-and-link meaning it can be set up as twins (perfect for little ones) or kept together as a further super king.

Bathing

The master bedroom en suite has a luxurious shower whilst the family bathroom boasts a gorgeous roll-top, freestanding bathtub for two and a separate walk-in shower. Both come with heated rails to keep towels warm and fluffy. In addition, there's a loo and shower downstairs - perfect for sandy toes after a day out on the beach.

Outdoor space

The south east facing gardens are just a delight, with exceptional views over the river to the rolling hills beyond, leading down to the water's edge. There are two main garden areas - to the front is a large, flat riverside garden ideal for games and there's also a dining table for four on the stone quay right on the water's edge, a gas barbeque and a lovely secluded, private south east facing area with four steamers to lounge on as well as outdoor table tennis. There's also a chiminea and a fire pit for evenings outside. This is a lovely spot to watch river life as you breakfast or gaze at the stars reflected in the water on a balmy summer's night. The other garden is to the back and is a mature terraced grassy area where you'll find a gorgeous Summerhouse, another dining table and chairs for six in the rose garden with elevated river views, a wonderful wood-fired Cornish boat built hot tub on a raised deck for six (with spectacular river views) and a tucked-away Shepherd's Hut - bliss!

Parking

There is offroad parking for up to four cars.

On the water

At Riverside Cottage there's use of a launch slipway with a rowing boat. There are also two single kayaks, one double kayak and two inflatable SUP's for your use. The SUP's are also easily transported by car to either coast. The cottage faces a large tidal pool which is safe for swimming and boating direct from the garden, making it the ideal waterside home! All the water equipment is used at your own risk.

The Longest Beaches in Cornwall

Cornwall is home to many beautiful beaches: the golden frontiers between land and sea. But which are the longest beaches in Cornwall, and where can you find them?

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Riverside Cottage:

Riverside Cottage was everything we could have wished for. Our family stay couldn’t have been more perfect. We loved sitting around the kitchen table with the warmth of log fire after our day walking and exploring the area. From taking the stepping stones to the village, a delicious Sunday Roast at the pub, a true Cornish Pastie from the shop, to chilling out in the hot tub. Loved every minute.

A beautiful cottage in a perfect position. Superb garden fronting the river with lots of sitting and dining options. Our dog loved the woodland walks and we loved the easy access to Lerryn's small shop and pub.

Riverside Cottage is the perfect retreat for a relaxing yet active holiday break. We were on the water every day and used the hot tub and BBQ at every opportunity.

Heavenly!

The house and environment were idyllic and we would love to go back at some point. The owners had thought of everything you may need.

We had an excellent week at Riverside Cottage. It is very well appointed - the owners have thought of everything that might be required. The kitchen is perfect for cooking and eating around the table. We made use of the hot tub, the canoes and, most often, the table tennis table. We also enjoyed use of the summer house on a cooler afternoon. The gardens are beautiful and well kept, and its location is stunning. The local pub is very good, clean and friendly. We would recommend Riverside Cottage without reservation.

Idyllic location, helpful housekeep who checked on us when there was localised flooding on the street due to high tide, amazing interior, outstanding gardens. Can’t wait to return.

Riverside cottage is a joy to behold. Location is fantastic and cottage beautiful, maintained to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. Walk from the cottage are lovely and the stepping stones leading over the the village shop and pub a real novelty. We hope to return.

Had a wonderful week. Cottage cosy, comfortable and very clean. Fantastic gardens and so well equipped, views amazing. Couldn’t ask for more. Wonderful walks from the door and a doggie paradise.

What a beautiful location and the facilities were amazing. We were super lucky with the weather. We loved all the thoughtful touches and felt the attention to detail was incredible. It was just fabulous being able to play about on the river with the paddle boards and kayaks, our 11 year old was in heaven. Our table tennis game has come on leaps, we became obsessed. The hot tub is perfectly placed on the hill with an incredible view, which was both private and idyllic. We didn't get a chance to sleep in the Shepherds Hut, maybe next time, we loved it and would definitely come back. Such a beautiful village and beautiful cottage.

Absolutely gorgeous location and beautiful house.

Lovely location with the additional bonus of having water sports available and easily accessible on the river.

The most wonderful place to stay.

3rd time we’ve stayed here and it’s by far the best Boutique Retreat we’ve stayed in. Always been a delight.

Stunning location and so tranquil. Could not have asked for more. Had everything anyone could need in an accommodation.

Another wonderful stay in this beautiful house, thank you so much! Beautiful walks and days spent on beaches, lovely kayaking, a fantastic meal at Asquiths in Lostwithiel. Thank you!

Lovely location and we really enjoyed using the SUPs and kayaks. It was nice to be able to do a variety of walks from the door.

We have had a wonderful week here at Riverside Cottage. We could not have asked for anything more. Thank you for providing such a thoughtful home with every amenity possible. We have loved it!

What a fantastic location! The access to the river, with paddle boards and kayaks made the holiday just perfect. The kids adored traversing the stepping stones at low tide and swimming across at high tide. Beautiful scenery and gorgeous home to retreat to that is as comfy as being at home. Made for the most relaxing holiday, thank you!

Thanks so much, we had a lovely week in Riverside Cottage. Walked the South West coastal path almost every day. But also up the river and onto Lostwithiel. Sunday brunch at Old Ferry Inn in Bodinnick not to be missed. Lantic Bay, one of the best beaches in Cornwall, if you can do the walk down and up! Finally, Ship Inn, good pub. Cottage is excellent and gardens. Would not change a thing!

Amazing location if you're the outdoorsy type. Fabulous walks and Kayak journeys directly from the front door!

Stunning in every respect, one of the very best holiday cottages we have stayed in! Thank you.

Love it - perfect location - so peaceful and beautifully appointed and maintained

Beautiful location, gorgeous garden and hot tub. Very comfortable stay.

Lovely setting. Great facilities!

This is our second stay within 6months and considering another. Says it all.

Beautiful location we would recommend it. It met all our expectations.

A really lovely cottage in beautiful setting. Would thoroughly recommend Riverside Cottage.

Outstanding level of upkeep in a beautiful well equipped and comfortable cottage in a fantastic location. We love it!

Great cottage, perfect location and everything you could need for a holiday in the UK.

What a wonderful stay! The perfect setting and a great place to celebrate a big birthday. We loved sitting outside with morning coffee watching the resident egret on the creek. The Ship Inn is great for a cosy meal and drink. Beware of starting the puzzle, it will take over your stay!

A wonderfully festive Christmas spent in your beautiful house. We had the very best of times. Beautiful walks in stunning scenery, our two spaniels loved it all as much as we did. Extremely comfortable, very well furnished and very homely. Many a family game played at your kitchen table. A truly fabulous place to stay for Christmas, thank you.

Riverside cottage was perfect for our family get together. it is immaculate and beautifully appointed throughout. The kitchen is a lovely space to both create good food and enjoy it. The log burners are a real winner for atmosphere (and lots of heat too!), but the central heating is perfectly efficient on its own. It was truly a perfect location for relaxed, beautiful walks (our dog was in heaven). There is a small and very useful shop across the river (2mins walk) which sells the best pasties. The kayaks are readily available and easily used. Our Waitrose delivery came to the door despite the lane being tiny. There is plenty of fridge and freezer space. The hot tub is fuelled by lighting a fire (logs provided). It’s a bit of an art to get the temp as you want it, but well worth it. Go… you’ll love it :))

Delightful riverbank cottage beautifully decorated. Its location with nearby woodland / riverside walks and close proximity to a local pub makes it an ideal peacedful retreat. The dog loved it too so we have rebooked for next year.

Absolutely fabulous home, great holiday, fantastic location. Thank you.

We have had a wonderful stay in an idyllic place! Enjoyed the walk to Pentewan Beach and Mevagissey. Had great fun with the kayaks. Loved watching the stars from the hot tub and hopping across the stepping stones for a pint at The Ship!

Booking is a must on this amazing property. From beautiful hand crafted interiors to everything you need for lazing about on the river . Wow !

For it’s location and facilities, this is the best cottage we have stayed in….and we have stayed in a few! We found time slowed with the pace of the river. The walks through the woods were particularly special, with wonderful views across the water.

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and a birthday at Riverside cottage with my family. It was a perfect place to combine a holiday and celebration and I left this lovely place with a heavy heart. I’d return in a heartbeat.

We have had an absolutely lovely week in this beautiful cottage. Exploring the river, walking in the woods and a couple of gorgeous beach days. The cottage is so welcoming to come back to and the gardens have been beautiful to sit in and watch the river. Thank you so much!

Riverside Cottage is a fantastic property that is well equipped both inside and out. The owners have thought of everything, including all the things you need to have fun on the water. We loved being able to go out paddle boarding, kayaking and using the hot tub.

Riverside Cottage is in a beautiful spot next to the river. It is well appointed with everything you would need for a comfortable & enjoyable stay. Lots of lovely walks from the cottage. Stepping stones across the river are fun with shop & pub a short distance away. I would thoroughly recommend staying at Riverside Cottage.

Absolutely wonderful and exceeded our expectations ... the cottage itself, its positioning, the facilities (Kayaks, BBQ, Hot Tub, Outdoor seating) ... simplicity of all mod cons, bedding, beds, interior decor - all fabulous compounded with some amazing walks from the doorstop.

Beautiful cottage, a lovely area to explore and lots to see and do. Thank you for your information and we hope to come back soon.

A beautiful home in a stunning location. The house is so thoughtfully appointed and so sympathetically too! A lovely area to explore, or just to relax and listen to the birds and river activity. Thank you Heath for your care and information too! We hope to come back soon.

Delightful cottage in a picturesque village. Lots of space for 6 adults or families

A delightful cottage situated on the river bank. Has everything you require for a lovely holiday, boat, canoes, hot tub and beautiful gardens. Wonderful walks from Riverside and a great pub across the river.

Such a great house! We loved being so close to the river and the stand up paddle boards were fab!

Absolutely perfect in every way. What a wonderful home you have and so well equipped. Cannot wait to return! Thank you for your help Heath and what a great job you have done in Riverside Cottage. Farewell for now!

Wonderful stay in Riverside Cottage as our first trip as lockdown eased. Loved sitting in the hot tub, enjoying the sunshine. Don't miss the walk at Lantic Bay to Polruan and Fowey, a lunch in North Street Kitchen. Fishmongers in Looe is a must!

We've had a really lovely time, beautiful cottage and amazing surroundings! Thank you! What a fantastic holiday we've had here! With a unique birthday celebration with our lovely family. Gorgeous place, loved every moment, thank you.

A beautiful cottage providing the perfect family retreat. Great situation to explore a new part of Cornwall for us. Thank you, we are leaving very relaxed!

We have had a really enjoyable stay at Riverside Cottage. Kayaks were fab and we had a beautiful cottage to escape to.
