Pared back and beautiful, this glorious Cornish cottage transports you to a calmer, more idyllic place as soon as you walk through the gate where worries and cares are left behind.
Sleeping up to four lucky people and dog friendly too, Muireann is romantic to its core. With soft whites, vintage woods, natural fabrics, and all the mod cons to make your stay special, the cottage is designed with comfort in mind, and somewhere you'll look forward to returning to every night.
Situated in Mousehole but tucked away from the busy harbour, it's a peaceful retreat with (unusually for a coastal cottage) a private garden and even a little stream running past the courtyard out back. Muireann is a perfect base from which to explore the best of West Cornwall, from St Michael's Mount around the coast to Cape Cornwall and St Ives.
Living
Lying to the front of the house, the elegant lounge has a plush navy-blue velvet sofa - suitably large enough to sprawl over, plus a luxurious leather loveseat. The soft wooden floors are stained white, and there's an open fire for cosy nights in and a Smart television with Fire Stick and a Bose speaker for when you just want to relax. For TV-free nights, there's a collection of books to choose from and a record player too - what could be more tranquil than that?
Eating
The fabulous kitchen is just gorgeous with a characterful dining table and chairs at its heart. Behind the sleek white cabinets is all the equipment you'll need to rustle up a romantic meal or two, with an electric hob and oven, retro-style fridge freezer, dishwasher, KitchenAid, blender and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine. We just love all the natural woods on display and the gorgeous tableware, making it a lovely space to dine in. Of course, there are a host of fabulous eateries just a short stroll away should you not fancy cooking!
Sleeping
There are two stunning bedrooms to choose from.
We don't think we've seen a more romantic bedroom than the master. With voluptuous swathes of soft white cottons hiding the king-sized bed like the sails of the ship, this is a fairy tale boudoir made for long lazy lie-ins. Stripped-back floorboards, Moroccan plaster walls and a decorative fireplace lend a paired-back beauty to the room whilst sumptuous cushions and (faux) furs finish the room off perfectly. In addition, there's a SONOS for creating the soundtrack to lazy lie ins and breakfast in bed.
The smaller second bedroom has a zip and link bed, meaning it can be kept as a king-sized bed or separated into twins, for flexible sleeping arrangements. The gorgeous custom-printed wallpaper is simply divine and is a wonderful contrast to the otherwise minimal style of this room. With clever storage under the beds, this is a lovely room for adults and children alike, who'll love falling asleep to the gentle babble of the stream out back.
Bathing
Just wow - the marble-lined bathroom has an incredible oval free-standing bath made for long soaks, with luxurious bath salts and candles provided. Additionally, there's a fab shower with rainfall head, heated towel rail and brilliant touches such as the vintage table holding the sink and quirky bathroom cabinet lined with vintage paper.
Outdoor space
To the front of the property is a sunny, enclosed garden complete with a sofa and chairs, perfect for summer nights, or for cooler evenings there is a fabulous outdoor fire with plenty of blankets, made for cuddling up and toasting marshmallows. To the back of the property lies a small courtyard which backs on to a lovely stream. There's a marble table and chairs and a BBQ too - perfect for breakfast or morning coffee, whilst turn on the lights and you have a lovely setting for a romantic dinner under the stars.
Babies and children
Babes-in-arms and children over the age of ten are most welcome at Muireann.
Dogs
One small, well-behaved dog is most welcome. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.
Parking
There is on street parking outside of Muireann on a first come first serve basis. There are two harbourside car parks plus a larger car park adjacent to The Old Coastguard hotel towards the edge of the village - finally there is street-side parking on the road into Mousehole about a 15 minute walk from the house.
In the Area
You're in the perfect location for exploring the far West of Cornwall. There are simply tons of things to see and do right on your doorstep. In Mousehole itself there's some fabulous places to eat such as 2 Fore Street (make sure to book), The Old Coastguard Inn for fantastic Sunday lunch and views, and The Ship Inn for a pint and a crab sandwich. Additionally, the Mousehole Deli or 1 Millpool are perfect for lunch and picking up goodies to take back to your retreat, whilst The Rock Pool Café is great for coffee, cake, and cocktails after exploring the rockpools. There's a small sandy beach, a tidal pool and lots of artisan shops to explore too.
Head out of the village west and you'll discover pretty Lamorna Cove, the Minack Theatre (make sure to catch a performance if you can, or take a tour), Sennen with its huge beach and plentiful places to eat, and around to Cape Cornwall. Follow the road further and you'll find one of the prettiest stretches of coastline in Cornwall which takes you in to St Ives - don't forget to pay a visit to The Gurnard's Head or The Tinners Arms in Zennor where you can also stop for an ice cream at Moomaid.
Head east from Mousehole and you'll come across Newlyn, one of the oldest and busiest fishing ports in England. Make sure to pick up some fresh fish to cook back at Muireann - delicious! Newlyn also has great places to eat and drink. To mention a few there is Lovetts, The Tolcarne Inn and Argoe, whilst its independent cinema is great for a rainy evening. Carry on and Penzance awaits, with Chapel Street to explore and the iconic Art Deco Jubilee Pool to have a dip in.
Further along is Marazion and the awe-inspiring St Michael's Mount, a wonderful day out where you can walk to the Mount when the tide is low or catch the boat across when it's high.
