Uniquely perched on its very own island in the sea above Towan Beach in Newquay and approached by a private suspension footbridge, The Island is magical and iconic with unrivalled Atlantic Ocean views. Is this possibly the ultimate beach house?

Towan Beach is directly below The Island, just a quick walk across the bridge and 30 seconds later your feet are in the sand. This beautiful beach is very popular with both families and surfers, as it is located in the centre of Newquay, and it can be lively during the peak summer months. Lifeguard cover runs from May to September and dogs are allowed all year round. The Blue Reef Aquarium, right by the beach, is well worth a visit. At low tide you can walk all the way across the beach to the traditional Cornish harbour, where you can find an excellent crab sandwich or ice cream.

Special 'Just for Two' rate

A special 'Just for Two' rate applies outside high season if there are only two guests staying and you use one bedroom. At The Island the discount off the advertised rate is 25%. Call us in the office on 01872 553491 if you have any questions. When The Island is booked for two guests this is on the basis that only the master bedroom is used during your stay.

Stylish, elegant and super comfortable best describe the New England styled living room furnished in a cool palette of whites and greys which is open plan to the beautiful dining area and of course those breathtaking views for you to soak up from every window. Not one but two wood-burners ensure that you can create just the right atmosphere for your planned occasion. 'The Bar Room' is the social hub in the evenings complete with bar billiards table, 40" 3D TV and a fully equipped bar - this makes for a perfect celebration house.

Raise the flag on the flag pole to signal to the beach goers below that dinner is served! You are spoilt for choice when it comes to where you choose to eat, whether it's a BBQ on the terrace, a family feast in the kitchen or an elegant seafood banquet in the dining room; you must of course finish with after dinner drinks on the lower deck watching the sun go down. Even if you are a very demanding cook, the kitchen will be ideal for preparing any gastronomic delight. You could also pack the picnic hamper with delectable delights and make your way down the steps to the beach below for a romantic al fresco dinner.

The romantic master suite occupies the first floor with its king size four poster bed, en-suite shower room with shower skylight and his and hers sinks, a dressing area with oodles of storage, and a snug with a beautiful chaise to enjoy this blissful sanctuary; crack open the window and take in the sound of the waves washing on the beach below.

The two other stylishly finished bedrooms are at each end of the ground floor, and each enjoys a view of the garden at its respective end of the house. One of these ground floor bedrooms can be made up as either a double bedroom or a twin bedroom and has its own small en-suite shower room, whilst the other has as a king size bed with use of the stunningly fitted out family bathroom.

Bedroom 1 with king size four poster bed and en-suite shower room. Bedroom 2 with zip and link beds (6' double or twin beds) and small en-suite shower room. Bedroom 3 with king size bed and use of the family bathroom.

All the bathrooms and en suites are gorgeously boutique in style and complemented by white fluffy towels and complimentary bath products.

The Island sits in the bay surrounded by sand at low tide and sea at high tide so when you've had a day enjoying the sand and sea you can walk back up to your elevated position on The Island and enjoy the beautiful gardens which wrap around the house. The landscaping and planting along with seating in The Island's garden has been carefully planned and adapted over the years so you'll always find a sheltered spot to relax in. There are romantic little hideaways where you can enjoy the mesmerising views out to the Atlantic Ocean's horizon and for dining al fresco there is a lovely area complete with pergola, fairy lights and barbecue. If you are visiting in winter, perhaps to make the most of some storm watching, you can take shelter in the conservatory then tuck up by one of the wood burners in the evenings.

The Island is equipped with WiFi, so if you need to keep in touch with the outside world you can.

One well-behaved dog is welcome, and two on negotitation - please call to discuss. We charge £35 per week or short break. Towan Beach which is directly below The Island, is dog friendly all year around.

There is a washer, dryer, dishwasher, electric hob, electric cooker and coffee maker at the house. One cot and one highchair are provided.

Parking and access

The property comes with an electric-door double garage just round the corner, suitable for two cars, including 4x4's.

After parking your car, head towards the sea, down just the first flight of the public steps down to Towan beach, and find the green door discreetly set into the wall which acts as a little Narnia door leading to the suspension bridge and your own private, magical world of the house above the sea!

Once you are there, you may not want to leave The Island. But if you do choose to explore from this amazing property then there is a great deal you can do without even touching the car, so if you have flown into nearby Newquay airport you don't really have to hire a car. There are stunning cliff walks, bays and beaches within easy walking distance of The Island, starting on its doorstep. There are so many great surfing beaches to choose from you will find that perfect wave and acres of sand to enjoy. If you prefer nightlife, Newquay can be a very lively town, especially in the summer, and boasts many restaurants, pubs and bars. Its shops are conveniently just minutes away. For quieter and quainter times, a walk over the foot ferry to Crantock has to be done to enjoy a really quaint pub lunch. Or work up an appetite by taking the beautiful cliff-top walk at sunset round several bays to Jamie Oliver's highly acclaimed restaurant, Fifteen, and afterwards you are just a 10 minute cab ride home by the inland road route.

Further afield, where the car will be needed, there is a plethora of restaurants and activities to enjoy. Nathan Outlaw and Rick Stein in their various coastal abodes offer a wonderful variety of dining day or night. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project and further south Glendurgan and Trebah are all very special and inspirational places to visit. Whatever you wish to do, we think that The Island's central location on the beautiful north coast provides easy access to all that Cornwall has to offer.

Welcome! You've arrived at your private island paradise with its breathtaking views, New England interiors and gently swaying palms surrounding the house. A special 'Just for Two' rate applies outside high season if there are only two guests staying and you use one bedroom; the discount is 25%.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about The Island:

The island house was just amazing. The views were lovely and being surrounded by them was great. The house was a lot bigger once inside and had everything you needed.

The Island was absolutely perfect. So relaxing and welcoming. Every attention to detail and excellent communication with the Boutique Retreats team. We cannot recommend them or this island itself highly enough.

The Island was even better than we hoped. The actual house was bigger than the photos suggested and was absolutely perfect. We felt immediately at home, the house such a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. We can’t wait to return.

A very different experience and one that I will always remember as exciting and intriguing. Woken up by the ocean waves every window looked out to a spectacular view. Watching the surfers was amazing they are out in all weathers! The bridge was just wonderful to walk on just an amazing experience. Beautiful Christmas tree and such a warm welcome from Nick who we met briefly such a pleasant and engaging young man.Felt he would help you with absolutely everything if needed. Loved the heated loo seats I’m missing those already! Gorgeous garden with lovely visiting wild birds and a beautiful red breasted Robin always greeted us in the beautiful garden. Wonderful. Would definitely Iove to return X

This was an absolute "tick the box" experience. The sights and sounds took your breath away and the experience of being out of reach on an island in the middle of a tourist area was amazing. So look forward to coming back again someday... thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home.

Amazing place. So unique. Felt like a Bond villain.

Cannot recommend highly enough - the perfect retreat with the most perfect views. Fabulous

Simply the best.

The Island is Magical!

The Island exceeded all expectations it was a magical retreat that we spent more time just enjoying the house with the best views over a glass of wine ,

A fantastic, and unique, property. A week there is too short to make full use of all the features. This holiday has set the bar high and it will be extremely hard to match this next year!

My idea of Paradise. A beautiful house. Surrounded at times by the sea. Then miles of beautiful sandy beach with rock pools and caves. And a tideclock to help plan the day.

It is the most magical place - went far above expectations! It was a blissful, healing retreat from a most horrible year. The gardens, the views are exquisite, everything about this place made all of us really happy. We thank you.

Just had the best experience in a very special place - the blustery rainy weather of December only served to enhance . Loved raising our Welsh flag and looking at a moving picture of cresting waves and surfers as the tied game in and surrounded us - thank you for all the lovely touches - fresh bread and the most seriously delicious mince pastries x

A great place for the family to stay, especially during lockdown. Extremely comfortable with plenty to do for those who want to chill out or explore. Raise your flag and be kings of your own island!

You cannot possibly imagine how perfect The Island is. From being a little boy I have been wowed by this home and now, many years later, I've been lucky enough to experience its uniqueness. I will treasure this visit forever!

Boutique Retreats were an excellent company to book with. The process was very easy and the staff we spoke to were very helpful and courteous and found us the perfect property for our holiday.

The house we stayed in was absolutely stunning and had all the home comforts that you could dream of. It was exceptionally well equipped and nothing had been over looked. Everything from the soft White Company towels and robes to the gorgeous smelling Molton Brown soaps and shampoos had been thought through. We will be back!

I’ve never stayed anywhere that exceeded expectations to the extent that The Island did.
