Living and eating

Made for entertaining, the big family kitchen and dining-room is the heart of the home and the perfect setting for catching up together and making memories.

The open-plan kitchen is a perfect space for flexing culinary muscles and creating feasts for you and your loved ones, and has everything you'll need, from the Aga fridge to the Nespresso machine. Handily, Curgurrell Farm Shop is just up the road for lots of locally-sourced goodies with fish and seafood a speciality, but don't worry if cooking isn't your forte or on your agenda - there's a host of excellent eateries just moments away.

Dining is just divine with a chunky Art Deco dining table complete with Eames dining chairs - perfect to gather around for holiday meals that last for hours, whilst there's a sofa too if you need to stretch out.

During warmer months, huge bi-fold doors open out to the large sun-soaked terrace bringing the outside in. The lower deck has wonderfully comfortable outdoor sofas and chairs - a perfect spot to watch little ones playing on the lawn - whilst the upper level becomes an al fresco dining room on balmy days, complete with a barbeque.

In addition, the snug sitting room is perfect for playing board games, watching movies or relaxing on the sofa with a good book, snuggled in the glow of the wood burning stove.

Mermaid Cottage has three beautiful, calming double bedrooms, as well as a snug children's dorm on the top floor with four single beds (complete with a Playstation!)

The incredibly romantic master bedroom has a king-sized Feather and Black Sienna bed, sea views and an en suite wet room, whilst the other two bedrooms are generous doubles with equally sumptuous mattresses and gorgeous bed linen. With just the sound of the distant sea and the gentle breeze through the trees, you'll just adore these peaceful retreats to escape to at the end of the day - bliss!

In addition to the master bedrooms' en suite wet room, kitted out with a drenching power shower, there's a family bathroom with bath and separate shower on the top floor and a third on the ground floor. There is also a fully-heated outside drench-head shower for hosing off after a sandy day at the beach!

Mermaid Cottage has a huge, beautifully landscaped private garden which curls around the property in a stunning mix of lawns and well-tended, shrub-filled beds and borders. Fully enclosed and with plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, this is a wonderful, safe space for children's games. There is a lovely hexagonal summerhouse tucked snugly away, the perfect place for early evening G&Ts or for those who want to slip away for a little peace and quiet.

There is private parking for four cars at Mermaid.

In the Area

Portscatho is a traditional fishing village, with a small harbour, on the stunning Roseland Peninsula, situated on the south coast of Cornwall. Pretty and pastoral, with hidden coves and beaches, this side of the county is much softer and more protected than its rugged neighbour the north coast. There's so much to do in this wonderful part of Cornwall, whether it's exploring the beaches such as Porthcurnick, Porthbean, Towan, Carne and Pendower, walking the stunning South West Coastal Path or visiting the plethora of gardens which make the most of the warmer climate - such as Trelissick Gardens or The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

With lots of great places to eat and drink, you'll be spoilt for choice. For something a little different, try The Hidden Hut beach café on the cliffs above Porthcurnick Beach - only a 10-minute walk away from the house. It's a wooden beach-side shed serving simple fresh food and drink with an outdoor seating area to the front with uninterrupted views out to sea and across the bay to Portscatho. Their feast nights are fabulous, these are only available by pre-booked ticket as they're so popular! You're also within immediate walking distance of local pub The Plume of Feathers in the heart of the village which serves great pub food, Tatums Taverna where you can enjoy wonderful, locally produced food from the simple open grill in a bustling atmosphere, or if silver-service is your thing, The Driftwood Hotel boasts a Michelin-starred restaurant. A few miles down the road in St Mawes, you will find the renowned Tresanton Hotel and The Idle Rocks.

This fabulous family beach house, nestled on the gorgeous Roseland Peninsula with epic sea views and a tremendous garden, is so much more than your average beachy bolthole. A 'Just for Two' rate applies outside of peak holidays, call to book.

This was our third visit to Mermaid. Fabulous cottage getaway - everything well thought out to cater for your holiday, and lots of things close at hand (The Hidden Hut or Sunday lunch at the Plume of Feathers in Portscatho, beaches, National Trust properties, Eden project etc). Great location with coastal walks, and log fire / fire pit to come back to. We will will be back!

Lovely cottage with beautiful gardens in a great location.

Beautiful cottage in a fabulous location. Extremely comfortable beds, all mod cons, lovely hot showers. Very near a lovely beach and beautiful garden.

Fantastic location surrounded by great walks. House is beautiful and the garden an absolute delight, just stunning as are the views!

This was a large comfortable house close to Portscatho beach. It was ideal for an extended family stay, fully equipped with games, books etc.

Our grandchildren particularly enjoyed the long, safe garden!

Mermaid Cottage was a great retreat - away from it all. Just as described and photos were a true representation.

Great walks on the coastal path and to the beaches.
