Whistler's View is a calming and spacious artistic retreat only steps from the historic heart of St Ives with its galleries, restaurants and shops. Named after the famous American artist, James NcNeil Whistler, who stayed in the house in 1884, Whistler's View has an amazing vantage point overlooking all of St Ives, its harbour and beaches.
Living

Whistler's View has been lovingly renovated with a wonderful artistic flair, including bespoke art work on show throughout the house. It is perfectly positioned to explore the best that Cornwall has to offer; but you will be more than happy to stay tucked away in your luxury hideaway. The calming living space houses cosy, comfortable seating focused around an elegant fireplace; there is an adjacent inviting reading area, Netflix Smart TV, Bose sound system and all boast stunning views of the sea and surrounding area.

Eating

The charming cottage kitchen is fully equipped with top of the range appliances, Joseph Joseph accessories and a large bespoke butcher's block 8-seater table to seat everyone in the house for lazy lunches and long suppers. If your party includes a small child, a high chair can be provided on request. There is an adjacent utility shower room which houses a large shower and a washer/dryer.

Sleeping

There are four luxurious bedrooms in total. The master bedroom, with king size bed and en-suite shower room, has the most enviable view across all of St Ives to wake up to and watch. A travel cot can be provided in the master bedroom on request. There is an additional elegant bedroom with chandelier and king size bed and Netflix Smart TV. The third bedroom, this one with a double bed, is tucked at the rear of the house. The top floor of the house has been named "The Lookout" - a perfect hideaway for the children. It offers twin beds and has been equipped with Smart 3D 4K TV, Bose sound system and a Play Station 4 - it's ideal for the kids, but the grown-ups might be fighting them for it too! A Velux window opens to see the most breathtaking view across the town and its beaches. It's a perfect place to go in the morning with your coffee to blow away your cobwebs, watch the world and plan your day. The New Year's Eve firework display on the St Ives Pier, viewed from the Look Out, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Whistler's View is a house on three floors with stairs throughout the house. The owners of Whistler's View do not feel the attic bedroom at the top of the house, The Lookout, is suitable for small children under 5 as this room leads directly off a set of stairs.

Bathing

Four bedrooms and three bathrooms is a great ratio for a larger group sharing a house! One shower room is en-suite to the master bedroom and the family bathroom has a bath (with shower over) for a delicious long soak to relax and rejuvenate. There is also a spacious shower/utility room on the ground floor, next to the kitchen. This can also be reached via the back door where you will also find an outside shower in the courtyard - perfect for a quick rinse off of sand after a day on the beach.

Outside Space

You will be greeted in front of the house by a wonderful terraced area equipped with stylish outside furniture, a BBQ plinth so you can use disposable BBQ's and surrounded by palm trees that give a true Riviera atmosphere. With the sweeping view of the sea, sand and St Ives, you will feel your cares just melt away whether you're taking breakfast al fresco or having an evening glass of wine. There is also a rear courtyard area with outdoor shower for you and your sandy kit when you come off the beach and handy wetsuit hooks with wetsuit hangers to dry off your beachwear.

History

St Ives, with its enchanting light, romantic coastal scenery and gigantic seas, has seduced artists from around the world, including the world-famous American artist James McNeil Whistler. And "Whistler's View" is aptly named - in 1884, Whistler stayed in the house with his two students, English impressionist Walter Sickert and Australian-born painter Mortimer Mempes to prepare a series of sea- and shore-scapes for an exhibition on Bond Street, London. Mempes later wrote, 'Whistler himself loved St Ives: the boats, the sea, the fishermen - all fascinated him … St Ives he revelled in … he did much good work there.'

Parking

There is a parking space conveniently placed directly outside the front of the house, big enough for a large car/camper van and Barnoon car park is a just a short walk away for additional parking.

WiFi

Whistler's View has WiFi so if you need to keep in touch with the outside world you can.

'Super choice for a family break of all ages. The wine and Cornish tea was a nice surprise on arrival. We can honestly say that there was never a 'wouldn't it be nicer if...' comment from any family member throughout our stay. It was just perfect' - August 2017

'Fabulous property - well thought out and in one of the best locations in St Ives. And that view......WOW!' - August 2017

"Beautiful interior decor. Well appointed kitchen and bathrooms. Great location very close to town centre and beaches but also quiet and with wonderful views. Very clean and well maintained. The food delivery via the Cornish woodbox worked extremely well as they were able to access the property and leave the delivery in the kitchen" - April 2017
