Thornworthy Barn

You have more than fulfilled the promises which drew us to Thornworthy. Inside and out, this has been a haven of peace, comfort and delight, and above all, of warm hospitality. Thank you very much for all the thought and care you have devoted to making this a very special place. From watching the birds feed, to walking through the gardebs and over the moors, and the cosy comforts fireside, we have enjoyed every minute. We shall not forget the warmth of your welcome and the pleasantness of our daily exchanges.

We arrived at Thornworthy Barn after a long drive and were warmly welcomed by Robert and Lisa, our hosts, who are the loveliest people. We stayed for a week, and the barn was cosy and the beautifully designed interiors by Lisa were to die for! There was a very well stocked hamper, cake and goodies in the fridge to keep us going for a couple of days too (Thank you!). We had a fabulous week ,and, despite the rain we had an amazing time exploring Dartmoor , doing a lot of walking and of course having a giggle about our exploits every time we bumped into Robert. We will definitely return

Thornworthy was exceptional in every way! Location was perfect, views where breath taking and the hosts Lisa and Robert treated us like old friends. The interior was beautifully decorated, with attention to detail, a level of luxury that that made us feel special. Any review cannot match this incredable place and we look forward to experiencing it, all over again!

We had a 10 day stay in April, whilst the weather was a bit damp, the constantly changing view was fantastic as the clouds rolled in and out of the valley. The wood burner kept us nicely toasty, and we had the joy to see new born baby ducklings arrive during our stay. This was our second stay, Robert and Lisa are fantastic hosts are the place is a wonderfully calm retreat away from London.

From your warm greeting, as hosts, to the amazingly decorated and designed cottage, the hamper filled with tempting goodies, filled fridge, and lit log burner - nothing was forgotten. Excellent standard of accommodation. Hosts were outstanding and there for anything we needed but otherwise left us to enjoy the wonderful house and garden.

We loved our stay at Thornworthy, it made the most perfect base for exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding villages. The attention to detail in the cottage is second to none - everything so well thought through. We particularly enjoyed our evenings sitting by the fire pit barbequing our supper. There is so much to love here, it's difficult to know where to make a start. The barn itself, with all its thoughtful details and luxuries, exceeded our expectations and the location is stunningly beautiful. Robert and Lisa are excellent hosts; we were given excellent advice about where to walk - the reservoir was a favourite - and where to eat. We enjoyed a meal in the brasserie at Castle Bovey and would recommend it for a delicious but casual meal in a beautiful location. Thank you Robert and Lisa, for a wonderful and relaxing stay.

The most relaxing long weekend we have ever had. Our hosts were absolutely lovely and nothing was too much for them. The standard of accommodation was first class and the cleanliness impeccable. Thank you!

We arrived at Thornworthy in the early evening. The wind was chilly, and we were tired from a day of travel. Robert and Lisa greeted us warmly and gave us a tour of our beautiful accommodations. The fire was lit, the champagne was on ice, and the moor was mere steps away. All of a sudden, it just felt.....magical. Lisa and Robert have seemingly, effortlessly blended the luxury and comfort of the Barn with the raw beauty of Dartmoor.

What a few days drowning (almost literally!) in nostalgia. My parents lived here from 1957 - 67 and we were married from here in 1964 - do the arithmatic! It was wonderful to see the old house in such fantastic condition and the gardens so wonderful. My father was a keen gardener so he would have been delighted to see its present conditions. The alterations you have made are amazing - just think, I am writing this in what was our hay loft. As for the birds! Again your continuing to provide dozens of feeders would have delighted my mother and even more ducks. All we can say is your hospitality bowled us over, Roll on the next 58 years!

If one is seeking a pleasant, relaxing retreat which is very well equipped with readily accessible interesting local walks and local produce, then this is the place. The owners (Robert and Lisa) are personable and helpful, always available if needed, yet maintaining the privacy distance - they have got it just right. First rate. An enjoyable break, thank you.

Perfect location to explore Dartmoor, with some lovely villages and local attractions. Retreat was was stylish and very comfortable, Rob and Lisa the hosts were superb in every way and super friendly. Nothing was too much effort. Welcome pack was very generous, we especially oved the limoncello and coffee cake!

Really lovely accommodation, better than photos. Beautifully furnished. Exceeded expectations. Amazing views and fabulous walking from the doorstep. Lots of delightful little touches - local ingredients for breakfast next day in the fridge. Fizz on ice on arrival. Robert made contact before we arrived. Robert and Lisa could not have been more welcoming and were happy for us to wander around their fabulous garden and give us tips on the local area.

This cottage is everything anyone could hope for in a luxury retreat. We can’t wait to return.

The grounds are beautiful -- we particularly enjoyed the swinging chairs overlooking the moors for our morning coffee and the outdoor fire put for wine and cheese in the evening. Lisa has thoughtfully decorated the barn and it shows in all the small touches including the sheepskins for outdoor furniture, the heated blankets for the evenings and the sumptuous hamper with local treats to be enjoyed throughout our stay. We will certainly be back.

'Our second stay at Thornworthy and just as lovely as the first time! The owners have thought of everything - we arrived Halloween weekend and there was even a lovely hand-carved pumpkin to welcome us! Inside, the house was cosy warm with the woodburner flickering and the most amazing hamper we've ever seen was waiting for us to enjoy. We were lucky with the weather and managed two lovely walks over the moors and Fernworthy Resevior - in fact, we didn't use the car all weekend.
