Located in the historic wool town of Painswick and formerly a weaver's cottage dating back to the mid-1800's, Southview is a quaint, exposed honey-hued stone abode, which has been thoughtfully renovated by its owners. With tasteful interiors, original features, and a meticulous attention to detail, it is a dream-like retreat in which to reside. In the heavenly levelled gardens, you'll also find a wood-fired, eco hot tub which gazes over the rolling Cotswolds countryside. Perfectly positioned to explore the beauty of the Cotswolds by car of foot, Southview promises a number of fantastic eateries right on your doorstep, plus you're just a short drive from a number of charming Cotswold towns and villages, as well as the historic cities of Bath, Cheltenham and Cirencester. It's under three hours from London too!

Special 'Just for Two' rate

A special 'Just for Two' rate applies if only two guests are staying at Southview. The discount off the advertised rate is 10% and only applies out of peak weeks, bank holidays and school holidays.

When Southview is booked for two guests, this is on the basis that only the master bedroom is used during your stay.

Living and Eating

Brushed velvet sofas sit either side of the bijou wood burning stove, set within a gorgeous stonework fireplace. Beside the fire, you'll find the characterful alcove for storing logs, plus a built-in dog bed, perfectly positioned next to the warmth of the fire for four-legged friends to curl up in on cosy evenings. There's also a Smart TV and a Bluetooth wireless speaker to keep you entertained during your stay, whether you're whiling away the afternoon listening to your holiday soundtrack, or are hooked on a gripping Netflix series, not wishing to leave the soft embrace of the snug sofa, bedecked with cushions and throws.

At the other side of the room, you'll find a gorgeous wood-topped table in a rich shade of walnut, with seating for four. There are two chairs and a bench, all with stunning brass detailing. Savour indulgent meals with your nearest and dearest, whilst you piece together your staycation itinerary over a glass of wine.

Through the stone passageway awaits a bright and airy kitchen, with tasteful brass finishing touches and soft patterned tiles for a contemporary feel. Fully equipped with a fridge/freezer, electric hob and oven, microwave, toaster and kettle, you'll find all you need to create culinary delights at Southview. There's also a Nespresso coffee machine for freshly brewed morning coffees, plus a dishwasher and a washer/dryer.

Please note that due to the charming nature of Southview, you will find split level floors, low ceilings, and characterful beams in some parts of the cottage. To access the upper levels, you will find steps with a rope banister. Please do take care when climbing, especially those with mobility issues and small children.

Sleeping

Set within the eaves of the top floor, you'll find the stunning master bedroom, where the breath-taking original features continue. Gorgeous Cotswold stone and charming exposed beams create a calming space for blissful slumbers in the impressive king-sized bed. Relish slow mornings under the covers, with the early morning light pouring through the eave window as you set about planning your activities for the day. You'll also find a set of rustic bedside drawers, a hanging rail, mirror, and enchanting brass finishing touches at every turn. There's even a vintage record player with records - a wonderful addition to this heavenly boudoir.

The second bedroom is located on the first floor with a serene double bed, dressed in cloud-like linens, throws and cushions to ensure a restful night's sleep. Darling bee-themed finishing touches beautifully complement the exposed honey-hued stone and rustic storage, with a small bedside drawer and a hanging rail for storing your belongings.

Also on the first floor, you'll find a quaint dressing room; a cosy space with a hanging rail for garments and a stunning brass-accent dressing table.

Bathing

The family bathroom is located on the first floor, with a sensational Witt & Berg antique brass rolltop bath and a handheld shower. Warm wood panelling and rich brass finishing touches create an oasis of calm with an oval sink that compliments the room wonderfully. Enjoy soothing moments from the bubble-topped tub, taking in your delightfully aesthetic surroundings. There is also a heated towel rail to keep towels fluffy and warm.

Outdoor Space

Step outside into an enclosed private garden, a wonderfully landscaped space adorned with a variety of plants, herbs, and flowers, promising spectacular views across nearby patchwork fields. The garden is terraced, set across two levels with seating to savour sun-soaked moments on balmy summer days. On the first level, there are two sun loungers, perfectly positioned to laze away sunshine-filled days, along with further seating and a low-level table for four to enjoy post-dinner drinks as you watch the sun descend over the rolling countryside. On the highest tier, you'll find a wood-fired, eco hot tub - the perfect setting to indulge in a dose of stargazing.

Please note that the garden is accessed via steep, stone steps which are shared with the neighbouring property.

Parking

Due to Southview's village location, there is no private parking available, however, free parking can be found in the local car park, or nearby on side roads.

Babies and children

Babies and children are most welcome at Southview. A travel cot and highchair are provided upon request.

Please note that due to the characterful nature of the property, it is not possible for stairgates to be placed on the stairs.

Dogs

Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome at Southview. A dog bed, towels, treats and bowls are available for your use. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Southview:

Lovely cottage in the heart of Painswick. Great location for dog owners with plenty of walks straight from the front door.

Beautifully appointed cottage with everything you would need for a memorable stay. Admin/check in was remarkably straight forward. Excellent location to visit Cotswolds, the Oak Pub in walking distance served generous and delicious meals.

Our stay at the Southview retreat in Painswick made our honeymoon the best one we could have ever imagined. The cottage was so beautiful with it's cozy fireplace, the hot tub, the enjoyable beds, perfect for snuggling up, the most perfect bathroom, the love for details (even a record player and little bees everywhere) and everything's so well cared for. We'd love to visit again!

We had a great stay for our honeymoon - Southview is a lovely cottage, beautifully decorated and we loved the welcome box and little extras that had been prepared for us. Great location for exploring Painswick and the rest of the Cotswolds.

A stunning old property in a perfect location to enjoy Painswick and the surrounding area.

Southview is such a pretty cottage set in a charming village. Convenient parking in the car park just behind the property with easy access via the back gate. The dogs were very happy with the one minute walk from the back gate along a footpath to the recreational ground. We loved the hot tub, the BBQ and super views from the garden. Lovely interiors with very comfy sofas. The personalised eggs and jelly beans were a lovely added extra. Thank you!

Really delightful little cottage in a great location in Painswick. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Will return.

A beautifully appointed cottage, centrally located and comprising all the old world charm of the Cotswolds with a tasteful, modern aesthetic. Would definitely recommend!

It was a great experience and we would come back.

Beautifully renovated house and garden in a lovely village.

Charming cottage renovation with 'no expenses spared' features like the stunning slipper bath and lighting. Perfect for exploring the quaint yet surprisingly vibrant village of Painswick (if you are musical, look out for the seasonal, classical concerts in the historic church), and an array of eateries from the coffee shop behind South View to the pubs and brasseries. Ten minutes drive and we were stocking up in Stroud farmers' market and Waitrose, and it was good for the soul to explore the surrounding five valleys. In under an hour we enjoyed Cheltenham, the delights of Burford (and its exceptional garden centre/ lifestyle store), historic Tetbury and Cirencester and across to the lovely Ross on Wye area. A great base for idling away a weekend in this cosy cottage and heritage village, or to enjoy a longer spell in Gloucestershire... and beyond. Thank you.

Lovely, peaceful cottage with style and comfort in equal measure ! The village is friendly and beautiful
