Undercastle Cottage is found in the heart of the New Forest and is one of the most romantic locations in southern England. The cottage is approached down a long winding tree-canopied track where you will be met by ponies at the gate. Once through the gate the beauty of the oak framed cottage will be apparent with its thatched roof, rose clad exterior and magnificent views with gardens that gently roll down to the river's edge. The cottage has 1100 yards of fishing, lovingly attended herbaceous gardens and beautiful interiors. In addition to the main cottage there is also the Fishing Lodge.
While away your days fishing on the famous Hampshire Avon, soaking up the secluded peaceful atmosphere, taking long walks, horse riding or mountain biking in the forest. Spend relaxing afternoons in the hammock and later enjoy a candlelit dinner on one of the secluded terraces whilst watching the kingfishers fly by and then a glorious sunset.
Just two hours from London, Undercastle Cottage is perfect for both short and long stays.
Fishing
For the anglers amongst you, you'll love the half mile of exclusive private fishing available on the Hampshire Avon. Famed for its large Barbel, Chub, Pike, Trout and Roach, this is an opportunity not to be missed - just remember to pack your own rods! There's also a rowing boat available upon request. Coarse fishing is from 16th June until 14th March. Salmon and trout fishing is from 1st April until 30th September. There is no fishing from 15th March until 1st April.
Living
The double height oak framed living room is a truly spectacular space for relaxing in. A large red-brick open fire makes sure the room is cosy in winter, whilst the French doors open onto the terrace by the river allowing the interior of the cottage and nature to seamlessly merge. Two super-comfy sofas create optimum seating space and natural light floods in from the double aspect windows.
Eating
The gorgeous handmade kitchen and dining room are just perfect for entertaining, filled with everything you need to rustle up delicious meals for your loved ones, including an electric range cooker. The impressive round table lies next to the kitchen with views over the river whilst during the warmer months you can dine al fresco on the terrace - just perfect!
In addition, there's a utility room next to the kitchen complete with large fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Sleeping
Sleep comes easily at this peaceful retreat, and you'll find three lovely bedrooms to retire to at the end of the day. Upstairs in the main house you'll find the pretty master bedroom with a vaulted beamed ceiling and dual-aspect windows - one facing over the river, the other over the forest so the best of both worlds! The sumptuous king-size antique iron bed is luxurious, so you'll easily drift off to sleep with the gentle babbling of the river and the "twit twoo" of the owls. Downstairs is an adorably cosy double bedroom with river views, whilst the separate fishing lodge offers twin beds with glorious river views - perfect for those seeking a little seclusion and ideal for the extended family.
Bathing
There's a family bathroom upstairs in the main house with a romantic freestanding roll top bath tub for two, whilst in the fishing lodge the ensuite is a shower room with facilities. There's an additional toilet downstairs in the main house.
Outdoor space
Set within three quarters of an acre of cottage gardens and surrounded by the New Forest, the outside space is about as idyllic and hidden away as you could wish for. Within the grounds are three ponds which overflow into the river, whilst to the front of the house is a sun soaked paved terrace complete with outside dining table and chairs, loungers and barbeque - just perfect for relaxing on, watching the river slide lazily by and the grassy heathland beyond. Nature lovers will enjoy the plethora of birdlife that visit, whilst you might also be lucky enough to spot an otter swim by.
Parking
There's plenty of private parking within the grounds of the property.
Babies and children
A travel cot and high chair can be provided on request. Please note that due to its waterside location children must always be supervised as the river and ponds are unfenced.
