Nestled within 3,000 acres of emerald parkland on the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle, our luxury retreat promises a serene setting to unwind. Steeped in history, The Summer House was created by Sir John Vanbrugh, the famed architect who brought Blenheim Palace to life. The beautiful stone exterior, where vines decorate the façade, draws you in for a cherished stay framed in 18th-century charm. Curated interiors painted in rich tones set the scene, with cosy corners primed for peaceful repose. Two inviting bedrooms promise a luxurious place to relax, while a separate annex invites quiet seclusion or shared moments with loved ones, fuelled by a bottle of something special from the wine fridge. In the garden, a sauna tempts for gentle steams, while the yew-fringed patio welcomes alfresco dining under blue skies. Venturing further, the sprawling parkland waits to be uncovered, with grazing deer and hovering buzzards. Walk the breathtaking grounds, before returning to your luxury abode for cosy nights in front of the wood burning stove. With Lincolnshire on your doorstep, dip into untold adventures and discover a living tapestry of winding trails and fascinating remnants of times gone by. Immerse in the warm welcome of a nearby country pub, or savour expertly curated dishes of the Michelin Star restaurants not far from The Summer House.
Living
Elegant arches and delicate flourishes echoing Renaissance inspiration adorn the neutral-toned walls, creating a peaceful space in which to unwind. From the beautiful mural painted on the ceiling to the intricate patterns that trail the artful panels, the living room marries creativity with timeless grace, accented by verdant views beyond the window. Sink onto the velvety sofa for evenings of calm as flames flicker in the wood-burning stove, casting the room in a golden glow, or curl up in the cosy reading nook for hours lost between the pages of a beloved book. Every corner has been thoughtfully styled to emphasise the Mediterranean influences that weave throughout the space.
In the annex, an additional living area continues the relaxing hues of home, with a comfortable corner sofa and footstool promising comfort and tranquillity. Settle in for movie nights in front of the TV, or simply get lost in good company as stories are swapped long into the night.
Eating and dining
Craft memorable suppers in the elegant kitchen, where Moroccan tiles and thoughtfully curated artwork complement bespoke cabinetry in verdant hues. A combination stove sits at its heart, with a dishwasher and Nespresso coffee machine to enhance your morning routines. Suppers are best savoured around the rustic dining table, nestled in the centre of the room. Just off the kitchen, a pantry provides easy access to the large fridge and freezer and a microwave, alongside a separate wine fridge for toasting to special moments. A combination washing machine and tumble dryer can be found here, while the annex also boasts a wine fridge, ensuring you're never far from a glass of something delicious. Inviting for mealtimes of any occasion is the formal dining room, complete with an elegant oak table for four.
Sleeping and bathing
Upstairs, two dreamy bedrooms await. The first boasts two twin beds, which can be set up as one sumptuous super king. Blending antique pieces, such as the lovely, mirrored armoire, with more contemporary touches, this soft-hued sanctuary encourages blissful nights' sleep and slow mornings watching the grounds beyond come to life in the dappled sun. Through the blush-tinted door, a beautiful en suite resides, with tiled floors, a free-standing bathtub, and a waterfall shower, as well as a heated towel rail for extra comfort.
In the second bedroom, deeper tones invite soothing slumber within the plush king size bed. A full-size mirror sits in the corner, with two bedside tables for stowing treasures, and an occasional chair that invites moments of calm. An alcove to the side of the room holds the en suite bathroom, complete with a claw-foot bathtub with a handheld shower, sink, and WC. There is an additional WC in the annex.
Outside space
A patio framed by curated yew trees awaits for barbequed feasts on the alfresco dining table, sitting beneath the dappled cover of the pergola.
