Living

As you would expect for such a grand dame, with 10,000 square feet of living space, Winscombe Court has an abundance of room for large gatherings or for those moments when a little peace, quiet and indeed social distance is just what the doctor ordered. On the ground floor, you'll discover the decadent purple sitting room, a wonderful space filled with three large sofas, a wood burning stove, Smart TV with Sky, board games and a SONOS sound system. On the first floor, the second Green sitting room is chic in shades of teal, offering a super sumptuous velvet sofa for sprawling and a Smart TV with Sky. In addition, there's an indulgent snug/study for those seeking solace or wanting to catch up on work and a snooker room for tournaments (both equipped with SONOS). The snooker room also houses a mini 'sports memorabilia' museum and a trance-inducing massage chair.

Eating

The immaculate main kitchen is simply a dream to cook in, whether you're an aspiring Nigella or Nigel, or looking to hire your own private chef. At the heart of the room is the huge cream Aga (there for warmth rather than cooking) whilst the rest of the kitchen is brimful with all the appliances and equipment you'll need to create feasts for a crowd, including a gas oven and hob, plus the all-important bean-to-cup coffee machine and a SONOS to accompany you as you cook. There's also a kitchen on the first floor.

There are two dining areas at Winscombe Court. Meals taken in the incredible main Dining Room will stay long in the memory, where you'll find the huge table that's big enough to fit 18 (more at a squeeze) - the perfect setting for celebrations and banquets. The Breakfast Room is a light and airy spot and seats ten.

In addition, there's a kitchenette/utility room with a washer dryer and all your other laundry essentials.

Sleeping and bathing

There are up to 10 exquisite bedrooms to choose from, with seven bath and shower-rooms, four of which are en suite. Each room is unique, boasting exquisite décor, super comfy beds and luxurious linens, bedding and throws. Every bedroom also benefits from a hairdryer and hair straighteners.

'Dove' Located on the ground floor, this opulent bedroom in shades of rich berries and wine has an exquisite four-poster king size bed, original feature fireplace and gorgeous chest at the end of the bed. It houses a double sofa bed and has use of the bathroom found adjacent to the Purple Living room.

'Bee' The regal Bee room is the 800 square foot grand master bedroom, boasting stunning double aspect views over the grounds and bundles of space. It's a symphony of whites and golds with a resplendent super king bed. Located on the first floor, it benefits from a beautiful en-suite bathroom.

'Parrot' Deliciously dark and incredibly romantic, this wonderful double with original feature door lies in the heart of the house on the first floor and comes with a large en-suite shower room.

'Butterfly' This pretty and secluded bedroom in shades of light blues and greens lies on the first floor and is home to a king size bed and an en-suite bathroom. It also has a single sofa bed.

'Flamingo' This elegant bedroom with garden shades has a dreamy canopy king size bed and a double sofa bed. Located on the first floor, it is adjacent to the main bathroom with grand stand alone bath.

'Swan' This darling twin bedroom situated on the first floor with glorious views over the garden is just perfect for little ones and has use of the main bathroom just a few steps away.

'Eagle' Nestled in its own eyrie on the second floor, this pretty bedroom with dual aspect windows, and with arguably the best view in the house, has a fabulous super king bed and single sofa bed. It has use of the second-floor bathroom next door plus it also has a Smart TV with Sky.

'Dragonfly' A cosy twin, ideally suited for the little ones is located on the second floor with use of the bathroom next door.

'Peacock' With the majesty and beauty of the peacock, this bedroom has a king size bed and superb views over the grounds and the Mendip Hills. Located on the second floor, it also has an en-suite shower room.

'Owl' Located on the second floor, the Owl is a snug L-shaped double bedroom with use of a bathroom a few steps away.

Babies and children

Babies and children are most welcome. Two travel cots, two highchairs and children's cutlery and crockery are available on request. There is also a selection of children's toys and games, trampoline, children's tennis rackets for use on the all-weather court and a football goal and basketball hoop are also kept on the tennis court.

Outdoor space

The huge garden and grounds (two acres) are the perfect spot for outdoor games on its perfectly manicured lawns, whilst those seeking a bit of rest and relaxation will have no problem finding a quiet spot to hide away on the upper lawn or along the nature trail beyond. Alternatively make a meal of it and come together for a grand picnic, where blankets, cushions, sunshades and plenty of food and drink is a must! There are plenty of tables and chairs as well as a large charcoal barbeque, whilst little ones will love bouncing on the trampoline. In addition, there's a tennis court - just perfect for your own mini Wimbledon tournament! There is also a basketball hoop available and basketballs are provided. Please note there are various ponds in the extensive garden so please supervise children.

In the Area

Nestled in the Mendip Hills, this glorious Somerset home is perfectly situated to discover the natural beauty that this quiet, idyllic county has to offer. Within an easy drive are the natural phenomena of Cheddar's limestone gorge and the Wookey Hole caves, with over 60,000 years of history. The Mendip Hills themselves are simply gorgeous and are the perfect place to explore on foot, on bike or even on horseback. Why not explore some of the Mendip Way, an amazing 50-mile long-distance trail that snakes through the hills or the local Strawberry Line, a former railroad now used as a flat walking/cycling trail. Alternatively, take time to explore the city of Wells, with its exquisite Cathedral and fabulous market, or historic and alternative Glastonbury with its Tor, ruined Abbey and Holy Well. For a grand day out, the Georgian city of Bath is nearby with its incredible Roman Baths, Abbey and impressive selection of shops and places to eat. If you're keen to head to the beach, the seven-mile stretch of sand and dunes at Brean will definitely blow the cobwebs away, whilst Berrow South Beach is quieter and much-loved by walkers and horse riders. For a classic seaside town experience, head to Burnham on Sea, complete with a promenade lined with Victorian and Edwardian guest houses or the nearby seaside resort of Weston Super Mare.

AONB

Winscombe Court enjoys a quiet, rural setting within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are fewer than 50 AONB’s in the UK and therefore guests should be mindful of the tranquility that needs to be observed as many residents have moved to Winscombe because of its AONB status. We kindly ask that you be particularly considerate between the hours of 9pm to 9am. Please note that while Winscombe Court has many outdoor leisure facilities, it is not suitable for outdoor events or parties involving PA systems or fireworks.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Winscombe Court:

Such an amazing property. It is brimming with character and the housekeeper Victoria is so friendly and helpful (but also discreet). The spa was outstanding and to have a facility like that all to yourselves is such a treat. We used it a lot! Can’t wait to return again in the near future.

Winscombe Court provided the perfect venue for 15 of us to celebrate an 80th birthday. Our ages ranged from 6 months to 83 and there was certainly something for everyone. The dining room was a beautiful room and the huge table allowed us all to sit together for special meals. The swimming pool complex, tennis court and snooker room provided fun for all the family!

Winscombe Court was the perfect location for our company offsite. It was a great place for relaxed workshops, team dinners, and activities like tennis, snooker, or hanging out in the pool. It was an absolute 10/10, looking forward to booking it again!

Brilliant!

A splendid place for a multi-generational family gathering with piles of room and a splendid pool

Beautiful property. Lots of room for a large family holiday. The pool facility was excellent and the children loved swimming in it. It was very new and clean. The hot tub and sauna were also great.

Winscombe is a very special property. We enjoyed a large family gathering and there was space and something for everyone. A most magical week.

We absolutely loved our stay here, the house had everything we needed and we had a great time. The new pool house is fantastic and great the children could play in the pool all day and not have to worry about sun cream with it being inside! We all had great fun on the "Win Some Court" playing tennis. The decor was fabulous and we loved the art work and memorabilia in the snooker room. Victoria was a fabulous host and on hand should we need anything during our stay.

We had a great time! Fantastic for a family celebration with a broad age range.

Amazing place, just WOW photos don't do it justice. We loved everything about the house and the spa area it was all fantastic. Local to the village too so we walked there. Overall very stunning and pieceful place definitely recommend and will be back thankyou. Oh and Victoria the Keeper was a lovely, helpful & friendly women nothing was too much for her!

Fantastic beautiful house with amazing decor that is so well equipped to have a wonderful family holiday.

Amazing property - great for family get togethers. Lots of space to be together or go off and have me time too.

Made our wedding dreams a reality. The perfect getaway for a large family, everywhere I looked I found something new to look at. For the size of the building the house was IMMACULATE! Lots to do, we never left the ground all weekend as there was always something different to try out!

If you want a spectacular uk retreat then this is the perfect venue to go to! Can’t recommend it enough.

The house is perfect for a large family get together or friends who want to spend precious time together. The house was exceptionally warm.

Without doubt the most beautiful property we have ever stayed in - nicer than a lot of hotels as well! Can’t say enough good things, the decor/check in/communication was all 10/10.

Fantastic retreat - beautifully decorated, really lovely place and wonderful surroundings.
