Situated on the rural fringes of Wales close to the English border resides Guinevere, our beautifully restored Grade II listed cottage. Set within the storybook grounds of Mathern Palace, our tranquil, dog-friendly retreat welcomes up to six guests for a country escape like no other. Greeted by blooming magnolia trees, medieval architecture and an Arts and Craft style garden, step inside our charming abode to discover a calming neutral palette and luxury touches at every turn, from downstairs underfloor heating to three elegant bedrooms each with their own en suite. Outside the dream continues, with an electric hot tub made for balmy dips beneath tangled tree canopies. Promising ethereal church vistas and a sleepy village setting, Guinevere is an enchanting setting for those seeking forays into the Welsh countryside. Set in Chepstow, an AONB known as the gateway to Wales, our idyllic retreat is only a short distance from a wealth of natural beauty spots from the Wye Valley National Park to the famed Offa's Dyke trail - all whilst being less than 30 minutes' drive from Bristol.
Living and dining
Uncover the charming open plan sitting and dining room, beautifully adorned with soft, neutral tones and country cottage inspired touches. With a stunning exposed stone feature wall and original glazed windows overlooking the spellbinding Palace courtyard and garden, this dreamy space invites for slowing living moments in the cosiest of settings whilst being the perfect space to entertain. Unwind in style on a choice of three cosy sofas, each gathered around a linen ottoman coffee table. For staycation entertainment, you'll find a 52'' Smart TV.
Adjacent is the solid oak dining table, set on a luxurious jute rug and complete with six mid-century inspired cottage chairs by Nordina Home, offering a delightful setting to host staycation suppers.
Kitchen
Boasting a bespoke shaker kitchen in soothing emerald hues with brass accents, the kitchen is a sumptuous space for crafting feasts for every occasion. Resting centre beneath delicate glass pendants is the wooden-topped island, with four oak stools for casual brunches. Everything you could require is on hand, including a Zanussi double oven with induction hob, a Nespresso pod coffee machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, washing machine and a microwave.
Sleeping and bathing
Guinevere has three bedrooms to choose from, each with their very own en suite.
A sanctuary for slumber with dark rustic beams and a romantic vaulted ceiling, the first bedroom space promises a subtle neutral palette, with an indulgent king size bed swathed in luxurious linens.
For stowing belongings, you'll find a pine chest of drawers, two beside tables and a hanging rail, along with a red velvet occasional chair and footstool. Light filled through a large Velux window, in the en suite awaits geometric floor tiles, a Victorian-inspired sink and a walk-in rainfall shower.
With beautifully distressed exposed beams, the second bedroom is a calming space for lingering lie-ins. Adorned in darling pink hues with a stone feature wall, you'll find a king size bed, two bedside tables, a dressing table with stool, a striped occasional and a hanging rail. The en suite promises a glossy peach pink tiled walk-in shower with a rainfall head.
Designed in a soft grey palette, the final bed features a zip-and-link king bed, with the option of two singles for guests seeking flexible sleeping arrangements. Here you'll find a rustic bench seat, a bedside table with drawers, a dressing table and a hanging rail, whilst the luxurious en suite offers a bath with an overhead shower.
In addition to the en suite bathrooms, you will also find a WC on the ground floor.
Outdoor space
A storybook setting framed by enchanting Palace views and blooming magnolia trees, the outdoor space at Guinevere evokes a quintessential country garden feel in every season. Step outside to discover the patio, where you'll find an elegant antique iron dining table with six chairs, made for alfresco gatherings of any occasion. Beyond resides a spacious lawn for those seeking an afternoon of croquet and boules, as well as a swing positioned towards the magnificent St Tewdrics church. Hidden behind wooden panelling awaits the electric hot tub for six, promising dreamy nights beneath cosmic skies. In addition, you'll also find two loungers for sun-kissed days.

Dogs
One dog is most welcome at Guinevere. Please note, there is an additional charge per week or short break.

There is ample private parking at Guinevere, which can be found on the approach to the cottage.

Further afield, discover the ancient Offa's Dyke Path following the border between England and Wales, where you'll find the spectacular Devil's Pulpit viewpoint overlooking the Gothic architecture of Tintern Abbey. For those seeking a day out for the whole family, explore the stunning medieval grounds of Calidcot Castle, promising enchanting woodland and a 55-acre country park, whilst race day dreamers can uncover a variation of events through the calendar year at nearby Chepstow Racecourse.
