Nestled in a pretty village in the rolling Wiltshire countryside, Lavender, originally a schoolhouse, is simply a dream come true. Living up to its country-cottage setting it feels delightfully cosy inside, yet is deceptively spacious, sleeping up to ten lucky guests.

Step through the door and you'll discover an enchanting home which epitomises laid-back luxury and country living charm. With exposed butter-rich Cotswold stone walls, underfloor heating, classic furniture and gorgeous interiors, this is a blissful homestay, whether you're there for a weekend or longer.

Outside, the spectacular, beautifully manicured gardens offer additional living spaces during warmer weather with three separate dining areas, whilst two wood burners, a snug and a cinema makes Lavender perfect for a wintery break too.

Perfectly positioned in its rural setting, Lavender is also just a short drive away from some fabulous places to visit such as Bath and the glorious Cotswolds. Under two hours from London and just under half an hour from Bath, this is the perfect getaway for families and friends wanting to spend time together.

Living

The incredible, double height sitting room is just a dream with exposed stone feature wall, flickering wood burner, comfy sofa and two armchairs with a fabulous coffee table. The perfect spot for entertaining, patio doors lead outside to the side garden and Loggia whilst a SONOS is on hand for your favourite playlists. We just adore the library, with movable ladder - such a beautiful addition!

For those seeking a different space, a cosy snug is available, complete with its own wood burner, a drinks cabinet, armchairs, sofa, beamed ceiling and dual aspect windows plus underfloor heating.

For the ultimate viewing experience, there's a cinema with cinema screen, DVD player and Sky package, spacious corner sofa and underfloor heating to keep things warm in winter.

Please be aware that Lavender may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues, as the retreat has stone stairs throughout and the downstairs is on a split level.

Eating

Lavender has the most extraordinary modern country kitchen, amazingly equipped with everything you could need, for every occasion. Equipped with an electric Aga, dishwasher, fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer, there's also a Quooker tap, providing both boiling water and sparkling water. Of course, there's also the all-important Nespresso coffee machine and all the kitchen and tableware you could need.

In front of the kitchen lies one of the dining tables, a characterful wooden table with chairs, perfect for more informal meals like breakfast and lunch. The other more formal table can be found adjacent, overlooking the garden with bifold doors that can be opened on warmer days, with wooden vaulted ceiling and exposed stone walls. Outside, there are three further dining areas to be found in the garden.

Both dining areas and the kitchen have underfloor heating for cooler months.

Sleeping and bathing

Sleeping up to ten lucky people, there are five gorgeous rooms to choose from.

The master en suite bedroom is a romantic's dream. With a vaulted ceiling, dual aspect windows, a blissful king-sized four-poster bed and a roll top bath, you'll revel in long lie-ins and breakfast in beds. For practicalities, there's a chest of drawers for belongings plus a large wardrobe too, and underfloor heating for cooler months. The open plan en suite has a huge walk-in shower.

The light, bright second bedroom has a king-sized, floral designed bed with drapes plus a freestanding double wardrobe, chest of drawers, huge mirror, armchair, dual aspect windows, underfloor heating, and a vaulted ceiling - a beautiful room.

The third bedroom in shades of yellow and blue has a zip and link bed, meaning it can be kept as a super king-sized bed or split into twin beds, making it a perfect room for children. This has a built-in double wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Between bedrooms two and three there is a shower room.

The fourth bedroom is also decorated with hints of yellow but also a spring-like green, creating a soft, tranquil room with dual aspect windows. This room has a double bed, built in wardrobe, and chest of drawers.

The fifth bedroom has a stunning wooden sleigh-style double bed with a large chest of drawers, a mirror plus two double wardrobes which are positioned on the landing outside.

The family bathroom with bath and shower overhead can be found on the landing, plus there is an additional loo downstairs by the front door.

All beds come swathed in gorgeous bedding, rich linens and sumptuous cushions and throws, while all the bath and shower rooms have heated rails to keep towels warm and fluffy.

Outdoor space

With gardens on all four sides, Lavender is blessed with outdoor space that offers room enough for everyone. Exceptionally well-maintained and with lashings of honey-gold Cotswold stone walls, the gardens offer a blissful escape on lazy days when you just want to rest.

The front garden reflects the traditional English country garden feel, with small lawned area, sweeping path to the front door, a sunny bench and stunning flower beds, bordered by perfect topiary hedging.

To the left, set above the parking area, lies a lawn plus a Loggia to provide shade on hot summer days, complete with an eight-seater table and chairs for dining, banked by a fragrant bed of lavender. This can be accessed from the sitting room.

In the top garden, there's a gorgeous patio with another six-seater teak dining table for alfresco meals, a barbeque, plus seating, two sun loungers and a coffee table for further relaxation. In the lower garden, there's a further table for eight with a concrete top and rattan chairs.

Steps lead up into the upper garden, a beautifully manicured space with gorgeous topiary, sweeping lawns, benches, espaliered fruit trees and waves of stunning flowers.

Parking

There is plenty of private, off-road parking for up to five cars.

Babies and children

Lavender welcomes babies and children. Please bring your own baby equipment with you.

Please kindly ensure that little ones are not left unattended near the stone staircases and to take care on the split level ground floor.

Dogs

We are unable to welcome pets at Lavender, but please note that this retreat may not be suitable for guests with pet allergies.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Lavender:

Lavender was a very special home. Everything was perfect. We loved our week-long stay.

A beautifully presented home , thoughtful owners , mindful of guests enjoyment , a delight inside the well arranged entertaining spaces.and a stunning array of outside areas to enjoy collectively or take a private moment with a book. Utterly charming .

Lavender House was absolutely stunning - as beautiful as the photos on this site (if not more!). The house had everything you could want and was so well-equipped. Every detail had been so well considered.

Lavender is an absolutely outstanding property and surpassed our expectations. The interior design is fabulous and the furnishings luxurious. It was a wonderful place to celebrate our daughters 30th birthday and we didn't want to leave. Excellent service from Boutique Retreats.

Lovely house and beautifully decorated. Extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. Beautifully decorated and presented. Very helpful and charming lady met us and made sure we were happy with everything.

A exquisite house in a wonderful location.

Could not have been a more beautiful home. We loved it.

Pastoral and elegant. There weren’t enough hours in the day to enjoy the magnificent gardens. Lavender was the perfect location to relax and spend time with our family.

Incredible house, beautiful gardens, very well equipped for a relaxing stay.

This place is perfection but I don’t want to say too much as then everyone will know!

My friends and I absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend Lavender cottage to anyone looking for a boutique retreat. We fell in love with the place and didn’t want to leave.

We stayed for a very icy January weekend, the house was extremely warm and cosy. The house really worked well for the 3 families staying over. It was so incredibly tastefully decorated and furnished. It was amazing, especially as my wife is a great Neptune fan.

The property is wonderful, a great winter escape. Kasia, who runs the property for the owners, couldn't be more helpful. A very special property which we felt lucky to be able to rent for a week.
