After our long drive from Cornwall to Somerset, my partner Phil and I arrived at the beautiful Apothecary Cottage. Before we even unloaded the car, we rushed to open the door to the cottage… It was warm, cosy and completely adorable!
We were greeted with a wonderful welcome hamper full of yummy goodies and a bottle Somerset sparkling apple wine, which I set about pouring whilst my partner Phil set about lighting the fire. It had already been laid so only needed a match!
We sat by the fire, enjoyed the warmth and admired all the magical medicinal trinkets around the cottage - a nod to the name Apothecary.
Later on we walked to the village for a drink at The George, which is a lovely grade II listed pub serving great tasting food and a fantastic selection of ales, ciders and lagers.
Our plan for the weekend was to visit Phil’s elderly Grandparents in Yeovil on Sunday, and I really hoped to visit Bath during our stay. We were delighted to discover that the Bath Christmas Market had opened the very same weekend. What a wonderful surprise!
We woke on Saturday after having a fantastic, very comfortable and relaxing night’s sleep. We loved the warm, cosy dressing gowns provided too; we literally wore them all weekend. They smelt so good of fresh laundry.
Dosing ourselves up with caffeine using the Nespresso coffee machine, we had a wonderful slow morning preparing breakfast and fuelling up ready for our shopping trip to Bath.
We parked at the Park and Ride, which meant we had no hassle of finding a car space and it just took the stress out of getting there! We soaked up the festive atmosphere and enjoyed the mesmerising sights and lights.
We returned back to the cottage late after a long day, feeling exhausted! We prepared a light supper, poured a glass of wine and lit the log burner – just heavenly.
Sunday was a beautiful sunny day, we arranged to spend the day visiting Phil’s Grandparents. Our drive to Yeovil took us through some wonderful views of the countryside. Couldn’t resist in stopping for a photo opportunity. We spent a lovely afternoon with Phil’s family who had prepared us a gorgeous roast dinner. It had been too long since we were all together, what a dream afternoon it was!
Our last morning arrived the next day, we made a quick breakfast whilst gathering up our belongings and loaded the car with heavy hearts.
We took one last stroll through the pretty village; my favourite shop was the Treasure Chest Tea Room.
The weather all weekend was just perfect. We’d had so much rain recently, so we really lucked in!
Apothecary Cottage has all you could possibly need. Phil’s electric razor had run out of charge and we noticed that the basket in the bathroom even had a mini shaving foam and razor. Fantastic! We were truly saddened to be heading home already. We had such a great weekend, we only wished it could have been longer! Next time we will definitely bring along our four-legged friend...
