If you go down to the woods today you’d better not go alone… Because it would be a shame not to take friends and family to Lara and David’s gingerbread cottage in Cardinham Woods. Incredibly picturesque – and entirely dog and family friendly – Woods Café is a beautiful haven carved out in the forest. Deliciously kitsch and playfully twee this little woodsman’s cottage houses all sort of foodie delights.
Cardinham Woods Café is a perfect lunch pit-stop to enjoy homemade sandwiches, freshly made soups and really good coffee and cake. However it’s not all sarnies and ginger beer – the menu also features hearty foods, culinary creativity and proper cheffy meals. An excellent ‘carrot’ for scoffing after exploring the surrounding tracks and trails.
The woods are choc-full of wildlife like deer, owls, mice, foxes, badgers and the odd gruffalo too. Great for plant hunters and budding explorers (Bear Grylls types need also apply).
The woods are looked after by the Forestry Commission and host four trails (though
there are miles of fun to be had should you venture off-piste). The Woods Café is the perfect place to start, on the edge of the woods, so pick the challenge and prepare your reward.
The walks are great for dog walkers, cyclists and explorers pick your trail, armed with a flask of hot choc and get rambling.
