Lusty Glaze Beach is a privately owned gorgeous nook of cove that sits along the north coast in Newquay. As well as a beautiful spot to for a dog walk and surf (be warned that steep steps down are unavoidable and going up requires some puff- totally worth it though) Lusty Glaze café and Sundowner Sessions are a must-visit.
The beach café sits tucked into the cliffs on the sand with the ebbing tide (or crashing surf) the best and only view. Headed up by Nat Tallents, a 2012 contestant on Masterchef: The Professionals, the menu is choc-full of delicious, hearty and seasonal dishes with a certain ‘Marco Pierre White-inspired’ flair. Nat herself is a self-taught culinary-talented Northerner who was tempted to the shoreline by the incredible view and abundance of great Cornish produce to play with.
Nat would describe her menu as ‘simple good food’, but that is too understated to be truly accurate. Her food mixes subtle flavours using locally sourced ingredients and infuses a genuine knowledge of what makes people happy. The monkfish and chorizo risotto is so rib-stickingly good that it made my heart smile whilst I gazed at the tide rolling in.
There are so many lovely things going on at Lusty Glaze Beach throughout the year, including their epic ‘Sundowner Sessions’ and wintery logburner sessions. Think great tunes, salty sea air, a warm beachside vibe and really good food as the sun goes down. Well worth the climb up the steps!
