Poppit Sands Beach, Cardigan Bay

Poppit Sands Beach, Cardigan Bay

Following signs for St.Dogmaels, you can leave your car at the National Trust car park located at the mouth of the Teifi Estuary and stretch your legs to a backdrop of soft coast and twinkling sea. Backed by a series of soaring dunes, Poppit Sands unfurls to create a welcoming stretch of white, powdery sand and the idyllic setting to spend a few hours or a whole day.

A gently sloping beach with lots of space, Poppit Sands is a wonderful choice for beach-lovers of all ages. With a number of Blue Flag awards tucked under its belt, this family-friendly beach prides itself on its safe, clean conditions and there are lifeguards in the summer. Boasting wheelchair access and plenty of facilities including toilets and a cafe, you can savour a taste of the wild whilst still enjoying easy access to a hot cup of tea or melt-in-your-mouth ice cream.

If you have your dog with you, they will have an absolute ball running around on the shore and chasing balls across the sand. Despite some seasonal restrictions on certain sections of the beach, you and your four-pawed pal can find space to play year-round. Even at high tide, there is still a big sandy strip left untouched by the sea making Poppit Sands a great place to stroll throughout the day.

With huge swathes of hard sand revealed at low tide and miles of open sea, the beach is naturally very popular amongst sports enthusiasts. Surfers, bodyboarders and kayakers alike flock to Poppit Sands to make use of the natural playground, and daily surf reports are published for insights into the conditions. Particularly popular with kiteboarders, you can take to the water yourself or sit back on the sand and watch the show.
