Held every year in September, the Abergavenny Food Festival is a colourful, vibrant, taste-infused celebration of great food. A place for local farmers and producers to proudly showcase their goods, the festival has been dubbed the ‘Cannes of Food Festivals’. And with good reason, too.
Surrounded by the stunning Brecon Beacons, the Abergavenny Food Festival shows off a variety of mouth-watering Welsh cuisine, as well as presenting a number of superb British and international producers too. From cheesemakers to chocolatiers to bakers to fishmongers and more, all share an unwavering passion for quality food created with the finest ingredients and expert hands.
Taking place throughout the town’s streets, the castle and of course the market, the whole town comes alive with sounds and scents for two whole days. Filling the air with intoxicating aromas, artisans put on live displays and cook up fresh, tasty feasts. With such a fantastic atmosphere, you can happily lose yourself amongst the throngs of people following their noses and embrace the opportunity to treat your tongue and tum with delicious flavours and textures.
First starting in 1999, the festival aims to push the boundaries of conversation and encourage people to really think about where their food comes from. Having attracted culinary royalty over the years including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Jamie Oliver, Monica Galetti and Valentine Warner, it has rightly gained an excellent reputation. Committed to supporting the local economy as well as providing an unforgettable experience for the thousands that visit each year, it is well and truly and unmissable event.
If you would like to join, the festival is open to all. Hosting a wide variety of events across the two days, you can look forward to demonstrations from top chefs, live music, tasting sessions, foraging tours, debates and plenty more. There are also activities for children too, so the whole family can come along and get involved.
