Located on the Farncombe Estate, near the beautiful Cotswold village of Broadway, Hook at The Fish Hotel is overseen by acclaimed chef and culinary director, Martin Burge, who earned two Michelin stars for Whatley Manor.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the hotel’s name, Hook offers a luxurious celebration of seafood, sustainably sourced from Cornish day boats. In fact, it is the only seafood restaurant outside of Cornwall to feature in the ‘Cornwall Good Seafood Guide.’
Recently appointed Head Chef, David Hall, comes with a wealth of experience to take Hook to the next level. Drop in for lunch and you’ll find a rustically chic setting and reasonably priced two- and three-course set menus. Perhaps start with a delicious crab rarebit or treacle-cured salmon with Guinness bread, before moving onto a comforting smoked haddock kedgeree or pan-fried chicken with smoked bacon rosti.
Evening dining is á la carte. You may wish to settle down to a bowl of Fowey mussels with white wine and parsley, mopped up with crusty bread and seaweed butter. Or, if you’re not feeling fishy, indulge in the twice-baked Stinking Bishop soufflé, made with cheese produced in the Cotswolds.
Depending on season and availability, main dishes might include steamed sea bream, battered brill or a whole sea bass luxuriantly stuffed with oysters and drizzled with champagne sauce. Much of the meat on the menu is sourced from Farncombe Farm on the Estate, including lamb and Gloucester old spot pork.
There is plenty to tempt vegetarian taste buds too such as miso-glazed squash, beetroot tart or flavoursome risottos. And if you’ve managed to save some room, round off your meal with a decadent dessert or coffee with sea salt fudge.
Feeling tempted? Hook is open everyday for lunch from 12 to 2.30pm (12.30 to 3pm on Sundays) and dinner from 6.30 to 9.30pm.
Visit Hook to book a table and avoid any disappointment.
