A traditional country pub, the New Inn has long been a fixture of the picture-perfect village of Moreleigh. With roots dating back to the 17th century, it was actually one of the ‘New Inns’ built under Elizabethan Charter to provide travellers with warmth and shelter after the Dissolution. Later transforming into the original Court Room for the Stanborough Hundred district, it then became a village pub and has now been in the same family for 50 years.
Having welcomed many a weary traveller and hungry visitor over the years, the pub’s warm welcome and friendly atmosphere remains at the heart of its ethos. Whether you are arriving in your walking boots or with the top down on your Morgan after an idyllic Sunday drive, the dog-friendly New Inn is somewhere everyone can go for hearty, no-frills food and a refreshing drink (or two).
Stepping inside through the flower-trimmed entrance, your eyes immediately train over all the homely details and period pieces that make up the pub. From its original fireplace to its gleaming horse brasses to its old photos peppering the walls, it manages to retain its authenticity without sacrificing comfort – a winning combination. Take a pew by the bar for a drink or take a seat at one of the tables, ready to read through the menu.
Particularly popular for its steak nights, the pub focuses on traditional English fare that warms the belly and rosies the cheeks. Choose from a range of classic favourites on the menu, including both meat and vegetarian options, and complement your main with a mouth-watering starter and dessert. Making each dish even tastier, the owners of the pub use local produce wherever possible, ensuring that only the freshest ingredients make it onto the plate.
Accompanying their food menus, the New Inn also a has a generous selection of wines and real ales, including a regular real ale from the Timothy Taylor brewery and guest ales on Fridays and Saturday nights. Of course, if you are on driving duties or fancy something a little lighter, there are plenty of soft and hot drinks too so everyone can enjoy the occasion.
Serving food seven nights a week, the New Inn is definitely worth popping into whether you fancy something small to keep you going or a full three-course riot. With the pub being as popular as it is, we do recommend booking in advance.
