An oceanside reverie at Cabin on the Cliff

An oceanside reverie at Cabin on the Cliff

As the clock struck five, we headed north to the wistfully wonderful cliff of Whitsand Bay, sights set firmly on our romantic beacon for the weekend, Cabin on the Cliff.

We lit the fire and pressed play on our playlist for the weekend, awaiting that first sip of smooth, rich red, toasting to our heavenly weekend in paradise. Excited to awake to a view of stormy seas and tempestuous skies, we sunk into cloud-soft linens and our sumptuous king size bed lulled us into a blissfully sweet slumber.

As the sun rose on a blustery autumn morning, we drew back the curtains to unveil a coastal daydream, with fervent waves rolling towards the shore and marshmallow clouds dotting the skyline. We enjoyed a lingering lie in, watching the beauty of nature before us; groups of clouds passing by, from shades of dusky pink to stormy grey, and rain clouds cascading into the deep blue in the distance.

After a blissfully tranquil morning, we hopped in the car and headed to The Canteen at Maker Heights for brunch. Set within a Grade II listed barrack block, this unique cafe/restaurant has a fantastic menu, which celebrates locally sourced produce, from traditional English breakfasts and sweet pastries to seasonal savoury delights.

After our meals, and with the unpredictable autumnal weather drawing in, we decided to retreat to our cosy cabin to spend the afternoon in secluded paradise. The thought of sinking into the darling copper bathtub and watching the stormy scenes play out across the Atlantic from the warm embrace of the bubble-topped tub was totally irresistible.

To our surprise, as we returned to our coastal reverie, the clouds lifted and the dull skies turned from grey to blue; the magic of the cliff showing us the beauty of Whitsand Bay, come rain or shine.

We excitedly changed into our swimsuits and sunk into the hot tub, perfectly positioned to savour the magnificent ocean vistas, whilst being extremely secluded with its position on the lower terrace. Sipping glasses of sparkle, we whiled away the rest of our afternoon in an immersion of bubbles.

As the sun descended on the horizon, we lit the fire and settled down for a cosy evening in, watching our chosen Netflix box set of the moment, with indulgent treats reserved for magical weekends away from home. After a long day of relaxation, we retreated to our bed and let the sound of the gently lapping waves beyond the cliff soothe us to sleep.

We awoke to the sound of rain gently tapping the large glass doors before us. We buried ourselves further into our silky soft linens, relishing a slow-paced Sunday morning with breakfast in bed, watching the stormy seas dance in the distance.

As the clouds parted, blue skies graced our presence once again and we put on our walking boots to venture down the cliff path towards the beach. The fresh air filled our lungs as we gazed at the rolling waves, gliding in unison towards the shore.

Longing for a delicious lunch, we ventured to a nearby pub, the Finnygook Inn, for a mouth-watering Sunday roast with all the trimmings. With stomachs full, we set about exploring the sweet coastal town of Looe, watching fishing boats bob along the harbour and children rejoice as they collected crabs from the sandy seabed.
