We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Meanders:

Superbly located for access to the many excellent facilities in Appledore, this retreat is cosy but both well considered and appointed with one of the comfiest beds we've experienced. The outdoor shower is a novelty and I'm sure very useful in warmer months, but we were only brave enought to try it twice in November! A note for electric car drivers - the GeniePoint in Appledore has not worked for a while (despite showing as active, same with those in Bideford), so be sure to get some charge in Barnstaple or nearby before arrival. Highly recommend John's for provisions, The Royal George for dog-friendly dining and The Beaver opposite Meanders for live music. Westward Ho! beach is incredible and Arlington Court well worth visiting too, to name a few

Loved it, went home relaxed

Fantastic location & has everything you need.

Beautifully finished and well equipped little cottage in a great location. Exactly as the description on the website - would highly recommend.

Beautiful design features throughout, great location, very comfortable and spacious. We had a lovely stay with our dog!

A lovely cottage.

Meanders is a beautiful cottage, ideally situated for long beach walks, slow pub lunches and evening in front of the wood burner.

Meanders is the perfect little retreat for Christmas! We absolutely loved the cottage and Appledore itself, with everything in reach and on the doorstep, we also loved meeting some of the locals. Very cleverly designed to maximise space and light and extremely comfortable. It was a welcome haven after some wet and stormy walks and in the perfect spot with lovely restaurants and shops just a couple of minutes walk away. As hosts ourselves, we appreciate all the little personal touches and the efforts made to make your cottage the perfect little home from home. We will absolutely be back perhaps in the summer. Thank you Hazel and Gary for sharing this beautiful house.

What a haven your fabulous cottage is. Beautifully designed and furnished and incredibly comfortable. The perfect place to see in the New Year. Stormy, wet weather meant that we did not venture far, but we had some lovely walks and looked forward to returning to the cosy fire. Thank you for the general welcome pack and for allowing us to spend a special time in Meanders. Happy New Year!

Thank you so much! Fabulous place and the Cottage is so beautiful!

For any swimmers - the westward Ho! Blue Tits meet outside the lifeboat station or there is a gorgeous sea pool on Westford Ho! Beach.

Highly recommend The Beaver Inn and The George Inn.

See you soon!

Roisin, Martin

The cottage has been everything we had hoped for and more. We wanted to come away and escape the hecticness of life at home and we are leaving feeling incredibly relaxed and recharged.

We have thoroughly enjoyed exploring Appledore - what a beautiful coastal town!

We would recommend taking the plunge and using the outdoor shower! It is a must at night for some star gazing!

Lovely Cottage. Appledore is a great place to stay. Enjoyed lovely weather and lots of walk. We though the outdoor shower was great.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful little cottage. We think Appledore is a gem of a place. We enjoyed all the eateries, especially The Yard, it was very tasty. Really liked Lyton and Instowe. The dogs loved socialising in the beach. The Cottage has been designed beautifully. The stable door is a fab touch to leave open and listen to the world going by.

Fabulous weeks at Meanders celebrating Andys 60th birthday. Loved the cottage especially the outside shower and the nice comfortable bed. I ate at the Rajel George it was really good both the food and the service however we recommend your book in advance. Likewise The Boathouse in Instowe. We enjoyed Champs Pub where you can take in your fish and chips from next door. Rumour the black lab also had a great time swimming and eating her way around Appledore.

What a lovely Cottage. The view of the water is wonderful and we really enjoyed strolling along the quay in the morning. Appledore Chamizal events entertained us such as rowing the worlds crabbing championship and the gig racing. The walk around Northam Burrows has so many interesting plants and birds and the views are glorious. Thank you for the lovely place to stay.

We really enjoyed staying at beautiful Meanders. You've created a gorgeous, relaxing, homely retreat from the busy world out there. Thank you for your hospitality.

We have had a really lovely stay at your beautiful little house. Meanders is a perfect retreat from our usually busy life in London. Wonderful days next to Instow beach and Clovelly - despite the weaher being very mixed this week. Our dog Connie had a fantastic time too.

Thank you so much for making Meanders the most magical experience. We could not have asked for anything more. From beautiful long walks on the beach to a glass of wine of two outside The Royal George mid-afternoon, to an array of wonderful restaurants to treat ourselves. A truly unforgettable week!

Thank you for loaning us your beautiful cottage. Appledore is an absolute gem. We had such a lovely time and would love to return one day.

This was a gorgeous cottage. Very well appointed and we loved the record player and outside shower! Thank you so much we had a lovely stay.

It was an amazing, relaxing, gorgeous stay! Such a gorgeous home finished to a stunning standard with every little detail well considered. The outside shower is a must. So refreshing. We visited Instow and Clovelly and both are highly recommended. We also did a great bike ride along the four-legged baby in a doggy carry-along, which we rented through Waterside Bike Hire. Thank you so much for being such welcoming and kind hosts.

Meanders is a beautiful cottage. We felt immediately at home when we arrived. The quality and attention to detail make it an extra special place to stay. Its central location was perfect for lots of stunning walks with our dog (Northam Burrows Country Park is a doggy paradise), and with so many excellent places to dine within walking distance, we were spoilt for choice. We enjoyed the vinyl record and book collection. We slept well in the comfortable beds and bedding. So relaxing and peaceful. Everything we wanted for our week in Appledore. Thank you, Hazel, for being a kind and thoughtful host.

Gorgeous little bolt hole to explore the local area. We have had the loveliest week. The cottage is just perfect for us and our Jack Russells. The light and airy design of the cottage has made it perfect as a relaxing escape for us. We have loved Appledore and the surrounding areas with so much to see and do locally. It has been great to not use the car so much. A lovely stay, very sad to be heading home from this spot.

We were the first guests to stay at Meanders and it has been lovely! The cottage met our needs and has been beautifully appointed, with lots of attention to detail. It felt very homely from the time we arrived. The area is new to us, we very much enjoy exploring Appledore, Instow and Clovelly. Everyone we met along the way has been friendly and helpful. We shall return.
