Living, eating and dining
Through the pretty Dutch front door awaits a tiered, open plan living space, where a beautiful contemporary aesthetic meets the traditional. With rustic original beams and eye-catching interior pieces, such as the stunning abstract ottoman in pastel tones, curated calm awaits in this characterful cottage. At the heart of the living room lies the exposed, white stone inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove, where dreamlike moments are promised cosied up fireside. Underfloor heating also ensures the cottage is toasty throughout the colder months. A brushed linen three-seater sofa by Isaac is a heavenly spot to stretch out in style, whilst the occasional Laguna armchair is the ideal nook to curl up in solitude with a newspaper.
You'll find the lovely addition of a record player, along with an Alexa and Smart TV for entertainment throughout your stay.
A step leads to the dining area, where an oak table with two chairs and a monochrome patterned bench seat are perfect for candlelit dinners and leisurely brunches.
At the back of the retreat with a raised glass roof resides the bright and pretty kitchen space, promising bespoke oak wood units filled with everything required for crafting culinary masterpieces throughout your stay, including an oven with hob, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, a microwave, cafetiere, and a blender for nutritious homemade juices.
As this is a traditional and charming cottage with period features, please bear in mind that there are quirky steps throughout.
Sleeping
Upstairs you'll find the heavenly master bedroom, where otherworldly ocean views and wistful morning lie-ins beckon surrounded by calming neutral tones. Dressed in soft cotton linens and cosy throws lies the stunning king-sized bed, adorned with a gorgeous, curved cane headboard. Alongside this, you'll also find two restored Indian bedside tables, a lovely, distressed mahogany chest of drawers, and a hanging rail for storing your belongings.
Complimentary dressing gowns will be available for use during your stay.
Bathing
Just across the hall you'll find the romantic bathroom, designed with handmade, terracotta parquet floor tiling, a bespoke marble and wood wash basin, and subtle gold accents. An elegant rolltop bathtub awaits for bubble-topped self-care moments, complete with an antique brass hand-held shower.
Outside space
Uncover the enchanting, enclosed courtyard garden beautifully adorned with festoon lighting and surrounded by herbaceous borders - a hidden haven in all seasons. With striking charcoal tiling, the lower level offers a Moroccan bistro table set for two, along with the unique addition of a stylish heated copper shower. Settled at the top of the garden, you'll also find a gorgeous rattan Tikamoon bench and chair, along with two coffee tables for indulging with a glass in hand at dusk.
Towards the rear of retreat you will find a separate entrance, perfect to allow access for bikes, kayaks, and surfboards.
Dogs
Up to two small/medium size dogs are most welcome at Meanders. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.
There are dog bowls at the cottage for your use.
Babies and children
Meanders welcomes babes in arms. A highchair is available on request.
In the Area
Nestled in the sweet coastal village of Appledore in North Devon and residing on the South West Coast Path, Meanders is wonderfully positioned for discovering delightful local eateries, such as The Flame Factory, promising delicious wood fired pizza quayside, whilst wine and craft beer enthusiasts will adore the tapas dishes served and laidback atmosphere at The Yard. Settled on the water's edge awaits The Royal George, an award-winning 18th century restaurant offering a modern and seasonal British menu. For daytime coffee spots, Market Street Kitchen offers fabulous breakfasts/lunches and a tempting selection of home-baked cakes to enjoy in their secret garden. On the quay you'll find the Coffee Cabin, offering homemade cakes and light lunches. Individual shops and galleries can also be found in the colourful cobbled streets. For a heavenly fine dining experience, discover Number Eight in nearby Bideford, where you can sample delectable tasting menus built around seasonal, local produce. For dreamy days out, head to the famous, quaint cobbled village of Clovelly, or the beautiful untouched moorland of Exmoor National Park and Lynton's Valley of the Rocks, located on the North Devon coastal path are both under an hour away, whilst bliss beach days await at Barricane Beach at Woolacombe. Across the Estuary you'll find Instow Beach with fine eateries, which can be reached by road or a small local passenger ferry from Appledore which operates throughout the summer months, tides permitting.
