There are plenty of lovely spaces for relaxing. At the far end of the house, surrounded by the spiralling staircase, is a stunning sitting room with vaulted ceiling. At one end, an original enormous fireplace (this was the original kitchen years ago) whilst at the other there are two Designers Guild sofas - one hot pink and the other grey.

The Red Room is the second glorious sitting room and comes complete with its own small spiral staircase - a firm favourite for little ones to access the first floor and brilliant for games of hide and seek! There is a cosy wood burner and squishy sofas and red velvet chairs to sink into - the perfect space for relaxing at the end of the day, and also the perfect Christmas room. There's plenty to keep everyone entertained, with books, family games, a Smart TV with Sky plus a DVD player on hand.

The excellent Boot Room is designed with muddy wellies, dog beds and coats in mind. With a vintage bench to help with putting on and off boots, plenty of hanging space and hampers filled with rugs and garden games, this is a very important room!

From the exposed beamed ceiling to the warmest of hues, this country kitchen has all the darling touches to make those slow morning coffees and cosy afternoons teas extra perfect. Sleeping & Bathing

There are six gorgeous bedrooms to choose from at Place Barton, each complete with super-cosy bedding and luxurious linens to ensure a blissful nights' sleep.

On the first floor, you'll find five of the bedrooms. The dreamy master bedroom is just heavenly with gorgeously curved beams, an exquisite French king-size bed and a dressing table. In addition, it has its own dressing room with plenty of storage space which leads to an elegant en suite with a large walk-in shower and a claw-foot freestanding bathtub for two.

The second bedroom has a pretty wrought iron bed and a stunning dark wood beamed ceiling. This bedroom is complete with a powder pink en suite bathroom with a sumptuous roll-top bathtub and a separate shower.

The third bedroom is a sunshine-yellow twin complete with window seat overlooking the garden whilst the fourth is a cosy bunk room with Feather and Black bunks with pretty eiderdowns - a perfect space for the little ones.

The fifth bedroom with a king-sized bed fashions a beautiful, embroidered headboard and boasts views over the stream and fields one side and the walled garden on the other. Bedroom three, four and five share the first-floor family shower room, where you'll find a large walk-in shower with dark grey tiling and a rainfall head.

On the ground floor there's a final twin bedroom with Feather and Black single beds, with a lovely window seat overlooking the walled rose garden and plentiful storage space.

In addition, sun loungers are provided and there is an outdoor swimming pool, available from Easter until the end of October, heated to between 26-28 degrees.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Place Barton:

Very lovely spot and charming owners.

Place Barton was absolutely perfect for our large family Christmas - three generations and a dog under one roof, with everything we could have wished for. (Including beautiful Christmas decorations and a very helpful housekeeper!) The spacious cottage offers authentic country luxury, comfort and beauty. I'll dream of returning to make more precious memories!

We had a happy family reunion at Place Barton which is a beautiful house in gorgeous surroundings. There is no shortage of things to do and see around there and Higher Ashton is just a short distance from bustling Exeter. There is an old family connection with this house and we're already talking about a repeat visit!

Place Barton exceeded our expectations! The house and the rooms were much bigger then we expected, there also was a massive table seating 12 outside! The pool was lovely and had some we were provided with some inflatables to enjoy! And the host was also incredibly helpful! Would highly recommend!

Beautiful country house tucked away in a stunning, peaceful and attractive rural setting. Impressive accommodation in a lovely old house with grounds offering a variety of styles and locations, make this an ideal base for a holiday, with so much to do on site that going out into the lovely country all around is not necessary but an additional bonus.
