A true country idyll, we're proud to introduce you to this resplendent beauty. Built in 1851 and a former stable, this home has a prestigious past, with the estate having once entertained the likes of Sir John Betjeman, Iris Murdoch, and John Bailey.
Today, La Rosa has been sympathetically restored into a contemporary country homestay, sleeping up to four lucky people. A haven for couples, families, or friends alike, there are two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one en suite), open plan living space and a mature, walled garden to call your own, whether you plan to stay for a weekend or a week.
Set in the unspoilt countryside of Dorset yet just a few miles from the coast, this retreat is lucky to have the best of both worlds.
Whether it's a day exploring the coastal path or lazing on the beach, meandering through fields and woodland, or perhaps uncovering the arty streets of Bridport or historic streets of Dorchester, there's something for everyone at this luxury cottage in Dorset.
Living and eating
La Rosa benefits from a spacious, open-plan living and kitchen area, meaning you'll be close together whatever you're up to - a perfect opportunity to spend much-needed time together. With a beamed ceiling, exposed stone wall and French doors that open out on to the garden, this is a peaceful spot for leaving the everyday behind.
At the far end lies the sitting area, complete with two blue sofas and a matching pouffe-come-coffee table. In front sits the resplendent wood burner, flickering its lovely warmth throughout the room during cooler months. There's also a Smart television with DVD player for film and box set nights, whilst a Bose speaker is on hand to create the soundtrack to your holiday.
At the other end of the room lies the kitchen, the epitome of a modern country kitchen, equipped with everything you could possibly need for rustling up meals. Boasting a Rangemaster range cooker, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer, and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine as well as plentiful kitchen and tableware, we're confident that even the fussiest of chefs will be satisfied.
Between the kitchen and sitting room lies the dining table which easily seats six, meaning you'll have lots of space for comfort - ideal for decadent dinner parties and long, lazy breakfasts.
There is also a cloakroom located on the ground floor for additional storage.
Sleeping and bathing
There are two stunning bedrooms to choose from, each with super king-sized beds that are zip-and-links, meaning they can be separated into twins if required, for flexible sleeping arrangements. With one en suite and the other with a bathroom next door, there's no queues in the morning either!
The master en suite bedroom is simply gorgeous, with the bed situated in the centre of the bedroom, backed by large built-in wardrobes for belongings and a pretty dressing table. With a huge vaulted, beamed ceiling, windows, and a Velux, this a spacious, bright room that's a tranquil space - just perfect for long lie - ins! We just love the wooden floor, desk-come-armoire, chaise longue, and the original feature fireplace too. The en suite benefits from a large walk-in shower and marble sink.
The second bedroom is equally enchanting, also boasting a vaulted ceiling, windows, and a Velux. In addition, this room has hanging space, a chest of drawers, full length mirror and an armchair. Next to this room lies the stunning family bathroom, complete with freestanding, roll top bath and large walk-in shower.
Both beds come swathed in cloud-soft bedding, luxurious linens and sumptuous throws and cushions, whilst the bathroom and en suite have heated rails to keep towels warm and fluffy.
Outdoor space
The incredible, oh-so-romantic walled garden is just a dream, whether you're enjoying afternoon tea on the lawn under the shade of the tree, supping on a post-dinner drink amongst the roses at twilight or sipping an ice-old G & T on one of the two sun loungers. With a lawn for games and a barbeque and dining table plus chairs for alfresco meals, plus use of a tennis court, this is a private, tucked away space that's perfect for outdoor living during the warmer months.
Parking
There is private, off-road parking for two cars.
Babies and children
Babes-in-arms up to 12 months and children over 12 are very welcome. One cot and highchair are available.
Dogs
This is one of our pet-free properties.
In the Area
Set in the pretty village of Litton Cheney, this retreat is perfectly positioned to experience the best of Dorset, from the countryside to the coast. Head towards the coast for a dose of vitamin sea and discover the joys of the Jurassic coastline, from Weymouth up to Lyme Regis. Highlights include Hive Beach, West Bay Harbour, a picturesque walk along the Golden Cap (with a bite to eat at The Anchor Inn in Seatown afterwards), and Lyme Regis and its famous Cobb, immortalised in the novel 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. Inland, Dorchester is well worth exploring with its museum, shops, and eateries, whilst Abbotsbury Gardens are a tranquil way to spend an afternoon. Thomas Hardy's cottage, managed by the National Trust, is a fascinating place to visit, whilst historical Beaminster and the Jacobean manor Mapperton House and Gardens are a must. For foodies, look no further than Litton Cheney's own pub, The White Horse, whilst there's a host of coastal and country eateries too, from the Hive Beach Café and The Crab Shack in Weymouth, The Parlour in Burton Bradstock, to Brassica Restaurant in Beaminster and the Three Horseshoes in Burton Bradstock.
