Charming well appointed retreat, in a lovely village with local shops. Host has gone over and above to make the stay memorable. We would rate our experience as excellent / 5 stars. Would be happy to use again, and probably will.

From start to finish, our time at Knapp Cottage there was simply perfect.

Joanna and Matthew went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Before we even arrived, Joanna was in touch with thoughtful communication, giving us all the details we needed and answering questions promptly. On arrival, the warmth and attentiveness continued - nothing felt like too much trouble.

The home itself is nothing short of spectacular. It is incredibly well-stocked and equipped: from the fully decked-out beautiful kitchen (every appliance you could imagine) to the cosy living spaces with exquisite touches, you’ll find everything you need and more. The décor is stunning — thoughtful, elegant, beautifully curated and yet welcoming: you instantly feel at home in a luxurious setting. Every room felt considered, comfortable and beautiful.

For families, groups or couples, there is so much to enjoy both indoors and out. Inside, there are cosy corners to relax in, games and entertainment, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms that feel indulgent. Outdoors, the garden is a sanctuary — quiet, private, friendly and calm — offering space to roam, relax, dine al-fresco, play croquet, boules or table tennis, or simply sit with a morning coffee and take in the view.

Location-wise, the setting is peaceful and tranquil yet wonderfully convenient. The cottage sits in a quiet and friendly environment, so you feel like you’re away from it all — but key amenities are within easy reach. A local supermarket is walking distance away, which made our stay extra comfortable and relaxed (especially handy for supplies, snacks or spontaneous treats).

And again, Joanna and Matthew’s support and communication were exemplary. They were always ready to help, gave local tips, made us feel entirely taken care of, while allowing us to enjoy our privacy and freedom.

Last but by no means least, the welcome basket deserves a special mention: abundant, generous, with delicious local produce, small luxuries and thoughtful treats — it really set the tone for a wonderful stay.

In short: if you’re looking for a beautifully decorated, perfectly equipped home in a serene but convenient Dorset location, hosted by Joanna and Matthew with real care and warmth — Knapp Cottage ticks every box. We left feeling refreshed, relaxed and already looking forward to our next stay. Highly, highly recommended!

We’ve had such a wonderful stay in your beautiful cottage. The welcome hamper was so thoughtful and a perfect start to our break — Winston adored his treat too! The cottage is cosy, spotless, and full of lovely details.

This cottage has the most beautiful interior finishes and so cozy to relax within. The location is great to venture from, but at same time peaceful and secluded. The owner really knows how to provide a little extra luxury and attention to detail. We would stay again.

Absolutely fabulous place to stay. Cottage is furnished to a high standard, exceptionally clean and tidy and contains absolutely everything that you (and the dogs) could possibly need. The garden is beautifully maintained, fully enclosed, peaceful and not overlooked. Hosts are very accommodating and helpful. Really appreciated being able to charge the car free of charge and that the coffee capsules were provided.

We loved our time at the cottage! We were a family of 3 generations (all adults) staying and had plenty of room. The kitchen is very well appointed and the garden was perfect for the warm afternoons in the summer. The cottage was a home away from home which proved an ideal base for visiting Dorset and the surrounding area.

What a special place Knapp Cottage is! So beautifully designed- cosy and sumptuously comfortable, yet very spacious and airy. The location is great too, beautiful countryside but not too remote (fantastic local supermarket) So much thought has gone into every detail: the furnishings and decoration, incredibly thoughtful and generous welcome treats and the garden - wow! Jo and Matthew were the perfect hosts, so welcoming and helpful. A truly magical retreat, we loved every second and didn't want to leave. If you are thinking about booking don't hesitate!

The house was gorgeous we couldn't have asked for anything better, the furnishings and layout was excellent. A stunning house in a wonderful village location. Fabulous decor, such a well considered layout and every mod con. This house was perfect for grandparents and children. The hosts were incredibly welcoming. We cannot wait to return.

I am extremely particular when it comes to renting a holiday cottage but Knapp Cottage surpassed all our expectations, it was amazing. What a cottage, what a stay, a fabulous welcome hamper, immaculate beautiful interiors and so very well thought out. Sometimes self-catered cottages say dogs welcome when actually they mean dogs tolerated. Not the case at Knapp cottage, dogs are truly welcome, secure garden and very happy relaxed humans. Knapp Cottage is a very special place. It’s a very spacious, cosy, comfortable, home from home. The kitchen is very well equipped. The garden is gorgeous. Knapp Cottage is very conveniently located a short drive away from Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Bruton, Wells and the coast. The hosts, Joanna and Mathew, went above and beyond to ensure we had an extremely relaxing holiday and we would highly recommend.

Beautifully renovated and furnished cottage with very high level of comfort and cleanliness. It also has the most lovely garden, which we didn’t get to enjoy due to the timing of our stay, but would have loved to sat out. The owners of the cottage live next door, are delightful to interact with and were determined, from the moment of booking through to us leaving, to make our stay special. From the fresh flowers in the cottage to a wonderful welcome hamper to immediately dealing with a small issue we had, they couldn’t have done more for us. I would highly recommend to others.

Knapp Cottage is such a beautiful cottage, tastefully and thoughtfully designed by lovely, attentive hosts. The furnishings are all luxurious, with extra touches that you don't usually find in a holiday home. It was too chilly to fully enjoy the pretty, established garden but we enjoyed looking out to it from the comfy sofas. Its location is good for exploring various places. Dike & Son supermarket is so close (walking distance) and had all that we needed, although the generous welcome hamper was filled with essentials and treats. We walked in to find the loveliest display of flowers from the hosts' garden and Joanna kindly popped round to introduce herself and explain a few things. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here! Thank you!

This is our favourite retreat so far. The cottage itself and location are super. The cottage is beautifully put together, warm, practical and the garden a delight. Most of all though the stay is made special by the host. By far and away the most generous hamper on arrival, flowers, a dishonesty bar and kindness. A very special time was had by all. Huge thanks.

We cannot thank the host, Joanna and Matthew, enough for the lovely and relaxing week we had at KC! From the moment we arrived, we were amazed by the care and thoughtfulness they put into making us feel welcome with very generous welcome pack / gifts - Joanna’s homemade marmalade is to die for!

We are completely in love and obsessed with the garden which provided us with variety of herbs to cook with and our fur babies loved having freedom to run and explore safely.

The house itself is a true gem— the living spaces were both elegant and cozy. Downstairs bedroom suite was perfect for my elderly mother.

The owners have created a lush garden oasis that seamlessly extends from the beautifully appointed home, all within short walking distance to essential shops in the lovely village (which was very convenient with a young baby in tow). What a spectacular place to spend time with loved ones and unwind. Joanna and Matthew are the most thoughtful hosts and truly went above and beyond throughout our two-week stay. Knapp Cottage is a home from home experience with everything at hand that you need. From the high end decor to the amazing soft furnishings to the manicured garden which surrounds you with a tranquil rest environment. From the moment you pull onto the driveway and open the stable door your holiday has started with a 5?? atmosphere and complimentary wicker basket full of goodies and not forgetting the gin bar . Each bedroom filled with elegant furniture and linen bed sheets coupled off with the en-suite bathrooms, literally takes your breath away. Pets are most welcome and are treated to a bag of goodies and a great lawn to stretch the legs. Fabulous experience and one we want to experience again. The minute you walk into Knapp Cottage, you relax. The interior is lovely and the garden is beautiful. We went away for peace and relaxation and it exceeded our expectations (we had a dog and a 6 month baby in tow).The village has everything you need within walking distance and it is within driving distance to some lovely beaches. It is one of the best holiday cottages I have stayed in and the owners are helpful and friendly.

It was a beautiful house in a lovely location. Amazing enclosed garden which was great for our 2 dogs. This is without doubt the loveliest stay we have had with Boutique Retreats and is most definitely in our top 3 holiday rentals anywhere… ever! The house itself is that magical combination of thoughtfully curated and interesting art and super cosy interiors that makes it such a relaxing haven. Given we have just booked for a third time, I’m rather doing Joanna a disservice by having not written a review before now. There’s probably a part of me which doesn’t want to share this secret! Joanna (and her family) in fact are part of what makes a stay at Knapp Cottage so special. The care and love and thought she (no doubt) invests in all she does are evident in a break at KC, her focus on every possible detail, helps ease you into your stay at the property so that you can enjoy your break from the second you walk through the door. From the helpfully laminated (dog) walks right from the front door in this beautiful part of Dorset, to the list of great places to visit and eat, you are armed with the knowledge of a local, so you can enjoy the cottage as though it is your own country get away. We’ve never been in summer but I can only imagine how beautiful it is in the sunshine. KC’s lovely garden is wonderful at any time of year. The fact that I am choosing to celebrate my 50th in this wonderful home should say a lot about the welcome we have received from Joanna and her husband and how much my family and I treasure this ‘home away from home’.

Our family had the most wonderful and relaxing stay at this beautiful cottage, which was so well appointed and tastefully decorated. The welcome hamper was truly outstanding, as was the hospitality from the owner, who provided recommendations for our visit and toys to keep our toddler entertained. A few highlights: the beautiful wraparound garden (which I imagine is even more splendid in the warmer months), excellent luxury showers/bath, super cosy living space with its roaring fire, stunning well equipped kitchen, and incredibly comfortable beds in every room. We would return in a heartbeat!

Where to start - this has been the most wonderful and relaxing stay. All of our expectations have been exceeded on all fronts. The cottage was extremely comfortable, clean and it more than met our needs. Joanna and Matthew were always available and provided very detailed guides for the surrounding areas. We followed their recommendations and had some of the best meals at restaurants in the area. Joanna and Matthew clearly put a lot of heart and soul into their property and they were the most wonderful hosts. During this trip my main goal was to relax and recharge and the beautiful cottage made it so easy. From the wonderful and inviting living room, to the very well stocked kitchen and the squishy beds - I can’t remember when I last felt this relaxed or where it was so easy to leave the cares and worries of every day life behind.

I can see myself coming again and again to knapp cottage.

As our stay was during the warm weather - a highlight for me was the garden. Whether you like to read and lie out in the sun or for having meals outdoors - it was just wonderful. I know my dogs are very much missing the knapp cottage garden.

All in all, every single aspect of this stay was made perfect by Joanna and Matthew and we were wanting for nothing.

Our week at Knapp cottage was utterly delightful. Ed and I and Milo the dog were thrilled with the beautiful cottage. The enclosed garden suited Milo and to his delight he could play next door with the owners Labradors and he was even given his first ever bone. The location was perfect for us to explore Dorset and also just rest and relax. The Portuguese bed linen was exquisite and the welcome hampers were incredible. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners - we have travelled all over the world and I must say this was the best we have had.

Our kids enjoyed the beautiful garden and a special thanks for letting me ornate an arrangement from garden to vase, which was so good for a florists soul. The worst thing about our stay was that it came to an end, and we sadly had to leave, but we will be back!

The cottage was absolutely gorgeous with a stunning interior together with a beautiful garden and all the amenities. Being down a quiet lane but still within easy walking distance of a lovely independent supermarket the location is perfect too. There is a lot to do within a reasonable distance, including a lot to keep our 3 year old occupied, such as Cranmore Station, Fleet Air Arm Museum and Farmer Palmers. The hosts were also kind enough to provide huge boxes of Brio and Duplo and were very attentive during our visit. All in all a fantastic stay and one we may be returning too soon.

Knapp Cottage is undoubtedly the best cottage we’ve stayed in. Not only was it beautifully appointed throughout, the quality of the furnishings and decor are exceptional. We had an amazing stay at Knapp cottage and Joanna couldn't have been a lovelier or more helpful host. The cottage is gorgeous, even better than described.

Our family had a wonderful stay at this property. The cottage was beautifully designed, spotless and inviting with a great use of space incorporating a luxurious kitchen, spacious dining and living area, bonus study/office, three sizeable bedrooms, two bathrooms, downstairs wc and laundry room. It really felt like a home away from home, if your home was a high end boutique hotel! The garden was very tranquil with some lovely mature trees, spring bulbs and outdoor seating and barbecue areas and the front courtyard was so quaint and private.

The owners couldn’t have been more welcoming or accommodating - from the locally sourced bountiful hamper and inviting tea supplies tray to the bouquet of flowers in the kitchen, card and the local recommendations for our family, we felt very much looked after. So many lovely touches and attention to detail throughout like the silk robes, classic books, block printed linens to lay the table for an indulgent breakfast (if one so desired) and a variety of board games for the kids really added to our stay.

We had some nice days trips to check out some National Trust properties, Monkey World Rescue Centre and the tank museum. Sherborne is very close with a stunning cathedral and some nice restaurants. The local supermarket Dikes (walking distance) is great for all your supplies and they also do breakfast and lunch. What a fabulous place! What a location! What hosts! Knapp Cottage is beautifully restored, furnished and equipped. It nestles in the quiet village of Stalbridge and is situated next door to the owners who are just the best hosts, for whom nothing is too much trouble. We have stayed at their other property and, once again, we were given lots of help and information prior to our stay and on arrival at the Cottage a fabulous welcome basket awaited us. Excellent.

We have never had such a welcome to a holiday property as met us at Knapp Cottage from the beautiful interior, extensive welcome basket to the lovely garden and more. It felt so homely that it was difficult to drag ourselves away! Lovely long weekend and look forward to returning

Outstanding. We have stayed in some lovely hotels & holiday let’s in our time but can honestly say that Knapp Cottage is one of the best. The decor is second to none and very luxurious but you instantly feel welcome & very much at home. Every amenity has been thought of & the welcome pack is amazing & very very generous. We visited Knapp cottage for 4 nights with my elderly parent & our two daughters & in those few days we visited 4 counties, Dorset, Somerset, Devon & Hampshire - all achievable within an hour or two & very much enjoyed by all ages. This property is well worth a visit & we can’t wait to go back.

This is our second stay at Knapp Cottage this year. We love it and everything about it! A true home from home with everything on hand and the garden is just beautiful. Joanna and Matthew are the most wonderful hosts. We’ll definitely be regulars!

GOSH! Where to start? From the minute we stepped in the door we were ooohing and aahing! What a stunning cottage, the attention to detail and the pleasant luxuries (like two dish washers!!) made us feel like wanting to stay longer and we'll definitely be back! The thoughtfulness of goodies in the welcome baskets (plural!) was simply delightful. Thank you for having us.

I hope to visit this beautiful again...the renovations done in 2020 are just incredible. I love the garden, the layout of the house and found my bed to be exceptionally comfortable.

Knapp Cottage is a stylish oasis of welcoming charm...as a family we have hired summer retreats for many years and this was our favourite from the very moment we arrived.

You feel immediately welcome and comfortable at Knapp Cottage. Joanna and Matthew provided the most generous welcome hamper with beautiful local products (including delicious) homemade marmalade - and they provide detailed information on the property and local area - we were so very grateful for this. The property is wonderfully comfortable - lovely sheets, comfortable beds - a beautiful garden with masses of space - we didn't want to leave...

Joanna was the most wonderful host who was "on it" before we even arrived. Our daughter has a nut allergy and Joanna took extra care to make sure that the welcome hamper did not include any items containing nuts. Which leads me onto the Welcome Hamper...wow!! It was by far the best welcome hamper we have ever been greeted with; an abundance of delicious locally sourced produce! Knapp Cottage itself is absolutely stunning; the interiors are exquisite and can only be described as a home that "hugs you" as soon as you walk through the door. The Garden is beautiful. We honestly couldn’t fault the place or the location. Would highly recommend booking a table at The Clockspire which is only a short drive away; the food and interior are to die for! Do not hesitate to book Knapp Cottage; you will not be disappointed!

Knapp Cottage was probably the most comfortable, well-presented stay we have had anywhere. Joanna and Matthew provided the perfect experience from the pre-arrival advice through to the immaculately presented Cottage and garden. And as for the welcome basket, wow! Our only dilemma was whether we should go exploring the area or simply kick back and enjoy the comforts of what felt like our second home. We are already planning to return: something we normally don’t do as we like to explore new parts of the country.

Knapp Cottage really has a Wow factor from the moment we drove up. Amazing hosts are there for every question, recommendations just can't do enough to make the stay the best it can be! Welcome hamper was just fantastic packed full of treats. The Cottage is to the highest standards and beautiful in every way, not to mention the gardens all you hear are birds and peace. We looked forward to returning after a long day out sight seeing. Our teenagers had table tennis and croquet at the cottage and with a trip up the road they had tennis too. The location is great just a little over an hour and you can be on the beach, so many places to go. A week just wasnt long enough and we will certainly be visiting again, cant wait already!

Knapp is a truly magical cottage. The layout, the flow of the rooms, the decor, the fittings, the feel of the place. All very special. We loved cooking in the kitchen, helping ourselves to herbs from the garden (with encouragement from Joanna & Matthew) social meals at the table or on the terrace, lounging on the generous sofas, relaxing in the beautiful garden. The bedrooms and bathrooms were gorgeous, especially the downstairs room with the French doors and private patio. Stallbridge has much to offer as well from the local pub to the fantastic local supermarket and excellent walking. We will definitely be back.

Such a beautiful cottage! The attention to detail is stunning, and Joanna is such an attentive host. She left 2 boxes of toys for our young daughter in the property which was very appreciated and going above and beyond. The welcome hamper was the best we’ve had - so many lovely local cheeses and even some homemade jam! The beds were very comfortable with beautiful bedding. We’d love to go back.

We had a wonderful stay at Knapp Cottage. The house is beautifully designed inside and outside and very comfortable. We had cozy evenings by the fire, dinner was a pleasure to prepare in the extremely well designed and equipped kitchen. And Joanna was kind enough to let us use their herb garden. The village is charming with a large very well stocked family run grocery store nearby, nice walks and a cozy local pub. The Queens Arms, about a 20 minute drive away also shouldn’t be missed. We’d highly recommend this charming, beautiful designed cottage to anyone who wants a quiet getaway with family and/ or friends and we hope to come back soon!
