Sleeping up to nine and dog friendly, sumptuous Chalklands is ideal for gatherings, whether you're family or a group of friends. Step through the front door and you'll be swept away by its understated beauty, where calming colours blend beautifully with the distant sea views and leave you calm and peaceful - just what's needed on holiday! The carefully considered décor and layout offers space for everyone with three/four en suite bedrooms, making privacy easy when need be, whilst the large kitchen and dining area is made for entertaining and celebrations. Outside, you'll find a huge lawned garden plus plenty of seating for lazy summer afternoons.

Just moments from the coast and set within peaceful countryside, Chalklands is less than three hour's from London, making it perfect for short breaks, whilst longer stays are just a dream with Chesil Beach, Weymouth, Dorchester, Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Lyme Regis waiting to be explored.

Living

There is plenty of space for entertaining in this wonderfully roomy home, perfect for larger families or a get-together of friends. In the long sitting room, you'll find two large, plumptuous Loaf sofas on which to sprawl and gaze out of the bay windows, plus two further occasional chairs nestled around the double-fronted wood burner, a must for cooler days. During warmer months, the French windows at the far end of the room can be opened out on to the large undercover alfresco eating area.

In addition, there's a fabulous snug-come-games room with huge Smart Oleg TV and a Boot/Games room for walking boots and coats, and space for table football, pool table, and air hockey.

Eating

The stunning kitchen is a dream and bound to excite the budding and experienced chef alike. Spacious and open plan, it benefits from a fantastic central island and comes with all the essentials, including an impressive Rangemaster Deluxe with four ovens and a five-ring induction hob. In addition, there's a dishwasher, large American fridge/freezer and all the other essentials including a Dualit coffee machine. A washing machine and condenser dryer can be found in the adjacent utility room.

The beautiful dining table and Hans Wenger chairs comfortably seats ten and benefits from the cosy heat of the double-sided wood burner whilst glass doors lead out on to the patio and garden beyond. Outside, there's a covered al fresco eating area with a teak table seating ten, whilst the patio has a breakfast table and chairs for four.

Sleeping and bathing

There are five stunning bedrooms to choose from, each beautifully decorated.

The master bedroom has a gorgeous French-inspired super king bed, huge bay window with glorious distant sea views, a table and chairs - perfect for morning coffee - and an en suite shower room with underfloor heating plus access to the sun-flooded balcony.

The second bedroom has distant sea and countryside views and has a king size bed, en suite shower room with underfloor heating.

The third bedroom has a zip-and-link bed, meaning it can be made up as either twin beds or a super king-sized bed. It has peaceful countryside views and has use of the jack-and-jill shower room and underfloor heating (or is an en suite if fourth bedroom isn't used). This links into the fourth bedroom which is a gorgeous single bedroom with intricately detailed wooden bed, blissful countryside views and use of the jack-and-jill shower room.

Bedroom five is also a super king-sized zip-and-link bed, with courtyard and field views, television and an en suite bathroom with gorgeous freestanding bath and separate walk-in shower, plus underfloor heating.

All the beds are swathed in the finest feather duvets and pillows, linens, throws and pillows. The en suites are thoughtfully stocked with luscious Noble Isle products and have heated rails to keep towels warm and fluffy.

Outdoor space

As much a space for entertaining as inside, here you'll find as mentioned before an al fresco, covered dining area for ten with a teak table and chairs, plus a gas barbeque. To the front leading from the kitchen is a patio area with a breakfast table set for four, surrounded by herbs and roses. Beyond this there's an expansive lawn which is perfect for children to play and dogs to roam plus loungers, a bench and a fire pit - perfect for roasting marshmallows or making s'mores under a starry sky. Surrounded by fields (with the occasional sheep) and with distant sea views, this is a peaceful, blissful setting. With Chalklands being in an Area Of Natural Beauty the property is surrounded by fields and from time to time the arable farm will carry out work in these fields, and pylons will be visable on one side of the property.

Setting

Please note that there are pylons to one side of Chalklands, which are visible from the windows on that side. As this is an Area Of Natural Beauty, work is currently underway to correct and restore the landscape, you might see the work from the one side of the property and you may hear some occasional residual noise. With Chalklands being surrounded by fields, please note from time to time the arable farm will carry out work in these fields.

Parking and access

There is plenty of private, off-road parking for up to eight cars. Please note that the entrance to the part-cobbled courtyard is 2.5 meters high and cars will need to be under this to fit through. There is a type 2 electric charging point for guests' use.

Babies and children

Babies and children are most welcome at Chalklands. A highchair a travel cot can be provided on request.

In the Area

Nestled in the Dorset countryside in an AONB right by the Jurassic coast, Chalklands is just perfect for exploring this beautiful part of England. From here, it's a short drive to Weymouth, where time exploring the West Dorset Heritage Coast of Chesil Beach and Portland Bill is a must. Move up the coast and explore the ancient, pretty villages such as Abbotsbury with its famous church or Cerne Abbas with its giant chalk figure. Head inland and the beautiful city of Dorchester awaits, whilst Lyme Regis is a lovely drive up the coast. Hive Beach, managed by the National Trust, is a large, less busy beach and a must for time by the sea. Head east beyond Weymouth and Lulworth Cove is a must for stunning sea views. Eating out around here is simply divine, with a real emphasis on seafood, whilst ancient pubs and tea rooms offer plenty to whet your whistle.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Chalklands:

Beautiful stone farmhouse in rolling countryside.

A really gorgeous house in a fantastic location!

What a truly great location, and perfect for us - 5 adults and three children. Stunning views and so much open countryside. The cottage has perfect bedrooms( very comfy, large beds) and the bathrooms were brilliant. We loved all the open space downstairs. The kitchen is the best equipped that I have seen and the owners were very generous with logs and essentials. We had a really special time together and it was the perfect venue - cannot fault it.

We had the most wonderful week at Chalklands over New Year. The house is fabulous. The grounds are amazing. The views are stunning. We're thinking of coming back again in the spring or summer. In fact, we might never leave...only 12 years to get squatters rights!

This was our second visit to Chalklands and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The house and garden give a fantastic space to spend time with family, we had wonderful weather so the garden was well used and the kitchen/dining space is makes cooking and eating so easy and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

Lovely house In beautiful setting with every modern convenience you could wish for. We all loved it (and there was nine of us and the dog). Such a peaceful setting yet easy to visit places nearby and wonderful restaurants. So welcoming we all agreed we didn’t want to leave. We will be back.

We had a fabulous holiday in Chalklands as it was a celebration for our silver wedding anniversary and all the family and our 2 dogs had a wonderful time and would certainly stay again.

A lovely house perfect for a family holiday in the countryside, with stunning views .

We stayed at the property as a family to allow everyone to spend time with our new baby. The home was well equipped and beautifully decorated which meant it felt like a luxury home away from home. It was incredibly peaceful and we would gladly return in the future.

Chalklands surpassed our expectations and was perfect for 4 couples celebrating an early Xmas. The house is very comfortable with tasteful decor and incredible views from every window. Perfectly located for walks and coastal trips.

Absolutely lovely weekend in a very comfortable house.

This was the first time we had booked through Boutique Retreats and will definitely book with them again. The quality of the property was superb - from the views and the property itself through to the high quality furnishings, fabulous beds, linens, kitchen equipment etc. It was absolutely fabulous. So very quiet - you could hear a pin drop outside. Great to experience a self-catering property not only live up to our expectations, but actually beat them!

Gorgeous, clean, comfy house. Quiet, spacious, thought of pretty much everything. Highly recommended.

Beautiful home, perfect for a large multi generational family holiday, the garden was brilliant for playing games. The interior was so comfortable we all were able to relax and enjoy it. Large kitchen table perfect for long easy meal times. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and will come back.

A beautiful spacious house surrounded by wonderful countryside and wildlife

It is a wonderful house that was spotlessly clean, well appointed and in a great location, and we would have no hesitation in booking it again for a family gathering.

Stunning property, beautifully furnished with amazing views. A place to get away from everything, switch off and relax.

Lovely get-away for a family gathering, the house is well appointed and has many lovely comforts. There was a great welcome pack which we appreciated, however, ensuring a warm house on arrival on a wet and cold Friday early evening would have been really appreciated.
