Set deep in the West Sussex countryside, Olea is a peach of a cottage that we're delighted to welcome into our portfolio.
Bedecked in thatch and climbing roses and with golden stone walls and pretty lead-lined windows, it's as close to 'chocolate box pretty' that it gets and stepping inside, you're met with interiors to match. Embracing the traditional country feel without skimping on modern luxuries, this wonderful dog friendly homestay with open plan living area sleeps up to four, making it perfect for couples and families alike.
Set in the pretty village of Amberley, Olea is less than two hours from London and perfectly positioned to explore this beautifully picturesque county. From here it's a short distance from Goodwood, Arundel, the South Downs National Park and fabulous beaches such as the Witterings and Littlehampton West Beach.
Living
We're a little bit (okay, a lot) in love with Olea's stunning sitting room. With brushed wooden floor, vaulted ceiling, large chandelier and exposed brick and stone walls, there's a pretty wood burner set into the walls plus plenty of seating that includes a deep, mustard yellow velvet sofa and a snug sage green loveseat. Filled with antiques and collectables, this is a gorgeous space that's also home to a record player and records, digital radio, smart speaker/Alexa and a Smart TV. From here, attractive oak stairs lead up to the mezzanine level.
Eating
Steps lead up to the quintessentially rustic English kitchen, where Kilner jars and collectables line the walls, and bespoke cupboards contain everything you'll need to rustle up meals. With stone floors and tiled walls, there are all the essentials such as the Stoves oven with induction hob, dishwasher, fridge with ice box and washer-dryer, whilst a Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine is on hand for the perfect pick-me-up in the morning. This room has a lovely skylight above, making it a bright room for prepping meals.
The kitchen comes complete with antique oak rectory table, chairs, and a 17th century monk's bench for dining. This atmospheric space is oak framed with huge windows so offers plenty of light and leads out into the courtyard garden - perfect for leaving open on summery nights to let the fresh air waft through.
Sleeping
There are two stunning bedrooms at Olea.
The master bedroom on the ground floor is sheer perfection; with exposed brick and stone walls, tones of cream and dusty pinks and a sumptuous king-sized bed, you'll not find a more fairy-tale room to fall asleep in. Bedecked in lustrous artwork and twinkling lights, every attention to detail has been carefully thought through. A chest of drawers and hanging space provide opportunity to stow away belongings.
The second bedroom, set on the mezzanine level, is equally beautiful. With semi-vaulted ceiling and exposed beams, the bed is a zip-and-link, meaning it can be made up as twin beds or a king, depending on your party requirements. In natural tones throughout and with a pretty window seat, a chest is provided for belongings. Please note that this is a bijou bedroom, with eaves and curtain rather than a door, so more suitable for children or a second couple staying a night or two.
Bathing
The family bathroom is set on the ground floor next to the master bedroom. Bedecked both in tiles and exposed brick and stone, this lovely room has a roll top bath with shower overhead. We just love the rustic sink and gorgeous fixtures and fittings. Underfloor heating and a custom-built radiator for towels makes this stunning bathroom very cosy, whatever time of year it is.
Outdoor space
Olea has an oh-so-pretty courtyard garden with lovely brick paving, complete with table and chairs for alfresco dining under a leafy arbour. Bedecked with planters, troughs and climbing foliage the garden also benefits from two garden benches and a large 'resting' plantation chair that catches the afternoon sun - perfect for sprawling on during hot summer days. Once twilight descends, pretty lights imbue a magical feel making the garden a delightful spot for evening drinks.
Parking
On street parking is available to the front of the cottage.
Babies and children
Olea welcomes babies and children.
Please note that Olea is a quirky old cottage which features a galleried, mezzanine balcony-level bedroom set high above the living room, with an open tread staircase, and a log burner which may be unsuitable for young children.
Dogs
Up to two well-behaved dogs are most welcome. Two bowls and dog towels are provided. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.
In the Area
Whether you're a foodie, an explorer or looking simply for some peace and quiet, Olea is fabulously positioned within an easy reach of great places to visit. For dining out, just 2 minutes' walk away is The Black Horse, a beautiful pub restaurant just perfect for an atmospheric supper, whilst The Pig in Madehurst is just a short drive away - a magical venue! There are a plethora of other fine eateries in Arundel, Midhurst and the surrounding area too, so you're spoilt for choice. For places to visit, there is horse racing at Goodwood Estate, polo at Cowdray Park in Midhurst, the castles at Amberley and Arundel are well worth a visit. Arundel also has a great cathedral, a 10 day Festival of the Arts, plus renowned antique shops and a farmers market. For a day at the beach, look no further than the Witterings, Littlehampton West Beach, Climping or Pagham Harbour (a wildlife reserve with a stony beach - great for a barbeque), whilst the South Downs National Park is a must for breath taking views, walking, cycling or horse riding - bridleways and footpaths are literally just behind Olea that lead straight on to the Downs. For quenching your thirst, there are three excellent vineyards nearby (Wiston, Nyetimber and Bolney) for an afternoon of wine tasting. The extraordinary Knepp Rewilding Project is nearby for wildlife safaris, and history lovers will find the Roman villa in Bignor Estate fascinating, whilst you can hire boats and paddle boards on the River Arun, and be prepared to be stunned at the scenery wherever you are.
