Living and eating

Meriton has a stunning open plan living, dining and kitchen area, creating a fabulously social space to spend time in.

Looking out over the garden, this lovely space has two large windows, plus French doors that lead out on to the terrace, perfect for keeping wide open on hot sunny days.

At one end you'll find the gorgeous kitchen, which comes complete with a range cooker with five-ring gas hob, butler sink, large central island (that's also a breakfast bar), window seat to watch the chef at work, and all the appliances you could need to rustle up a meal including a microwave, fridge freezer and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine. In the utility room you'll find a washing machine and tumble dryer.

In the centre of the room lies the fabulous dining area, with a wooden dining table that comfortably seats eight. In addition, there's a lovely dresser housing glasses and tableware; it also hides the dishwasher away too.

At the far end, the sitting area can be found and it's sumptuously resplendent in rich, jewel-like colours of deep reds, antique golds, and teal. Here, a flickering wood burner awaits, with two large bespoke sofas and a Soho Home armchair, offering the perfect setting for pre and post dinner drinks on autumnal days. There's also a Smart television for film nights, plus a Roberts digital radio with Bluetooth to create the soundtrack to your holiday.

Great for families, there's also a separate snug that's perfect for younger ones, or for those seeking a quiet space to read. Here you'll find a large corner sofa plus a Smart television and a neat little foldaway desk for those needing to work.

Sleeping and bathing

There are three stunning bedrooms to choose from.

The master bedroom comes furnished with beautifully patterned blue wallpaper, country views from dual aspect windows and an occasional chair. There's a sumptuous king-sized bed for long lie-ins and breakfast in bed - a must when on holiday! In addition, there's a walk-in wardrobe, dressing table and an ensuite with large walk-in shower.

The second bedroom also has a blissful king-sized bed. Decadent in shades of teal, there's a stunning built-in wardrobe, with a built-in seat from which to admire the view from the room, and chest of drawers for storing belongings, too.

The third bedroom has a zip-and-link bed, meaning it can be set up as twins or a super king-sized bed. A great room for children, the golds and yellows add a lightness to the space and has plenty of storage for belongings.

The second and third bedroom have use of the grand family bathroom, which has a freestanding, roll top bath for two and a separate walk-in shower.

All the beds come swathed in luxurious linens, oh-so-soft bedding and sumptuous cushions and throws to ensure a blissful nights' sleep.

In addition, there's a downstairs loo and cloakroom - we just love the wallpaper in here.

Outdoor space

Meriton, surrounded by forest and farmland, benefits from a large garden, with a verdant lawn just perfect for games. In addition, there's a sunny terrace just outside the French doors leading from the kitchen, where you'll find benches for morning coffee and a dining table and chairs plus a gas barbeque for meals alfresco. On a hot day, we recommend setting up a picnic under the boughs of the lovely apple tree - bliss!

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Meriton:

Meriton was an oasis of peace and quiet to enjoy our family gathering - every detail had been meticulously executed for us.

A beautiful retreat in a quiet, rural location. The interior was lovely and we were extremely comfortable. Lots of walks from the property. Be prepared for windy country roads which you have to use to get to all of the attractions but at least the roads are quiet. Would definitely recommend Meriton.

Lovely quiet retreat. We have a relaxing weekend before dropping our daughter off at school. The house is a little out of the way but has an excellent local shop with basic necessities and helpful staff. Overall we were very pleased

The quality of the build and furnishings of the cottage are first rate and the location incredibly peaceful for Hampshire

A joyous week spent surrounded by nature in an atmosphere of total peace and quiet, just wonderful.

Meriton is a stunning property and a great holiday rental. It was a perfect setting for our reunion with friends from California. They loved it.

This is the perfect location for a getaway with friends or family. The house is just beautiful.

We had a wonderful stay at Meriton! We were struck by the beautiful decor and interior as well as the cleanliness of this house. The views from the house are stunning and we enjoyed the lovely walks around the area. A wonderful stay just prior to Christmas. Thank you!

The house was immaculate inside and out. Tracy the housekeeper was very attentive as was Cate the owner. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we have rebooked for 2 weeks in June next year.

Absolutely beautiful house. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This property is currently our favourite from all the Boutique Retreats we’ve stayed in!

Quality, style & location amazing. Thank you for sharing it with us

Meriton is the most beautiful and comfortable house in absolutely gorgeous surroundings. We spent a wonderful week there and didn't want to leave. I can't recommend this retreat highly enough.

Such a beautifully decorated and well-stocked cottage set in the idyllic English countryside. At the end of the road, there are no noises to be heard other than nature. We had both rain and sun and enjoyed our stay throughout.

Beautiful and comfortable cottage in a wonderful location. Quite remote, but that is exactly what we were looking for. Wonderful walks on the doorstep.

Fabulous house, grounds and what a view! We absolutely loved the quietness, just the birds and occasional sheep. Despite us working from home Monday to Thursday, we felt like we had been away for ages. The WiFi was brilliant and we had no problems with two of us working. We loved the pop-up desk in the study too! We will definitely return.

Idyllic cottage in a superb location. Our son even cancelled his early departure to see Chelsea v Newcastle to stay an extra day instead! Our Pointer Bertie was living his best life with all of the new sights and smells. We will definitely be returning!

We had a wonderful family holiday at Meriton. The house more than comfortably accommodated 5 adults and 1 dog, with everything we could need. Everything was excellent quality, from the furnishings to the bath towels. The open plan living area was sociable and the views from both inside and outside were stunning. There were lots of walks from the doorstep, and the local pub was within walking distance, very friendly and we enjoyed the food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Meriton and plan to return in the near future.

Fabulous cottage in a stunning, quiet location; beautifully decorated and comfortable throughout. Plenty of walks from the doorstep, perfect for someone looking to get away from it all for a few days.

Immaculate house in a beautiful and peaceful location. Loved by all members of the family including the dog! Would definitely consider staying here again!

The house is fantastically well designed and thoughtfully arranged throughout. The location is amazing for those who want to 'get away from it all', with amazing country walks on the doorstep and beautiful country views.

It was such a beautiful house - very well decorated and great location! Cate was so friendly and very happy to help, which was so useful to have. The house had great amenities and was such a good layout, having the separate snug telly room which was perfect for a film night.

Your service was excellent and the owner, Cate, was great.

Absolutely loved our stay at Meriton. Beautiful decor and surroundings. Thank you for the bread, cake, and wine on arrival. We have made some wonderful memories here.

Our holiday at Meriton/Pugs Hole Cottage (four adults/two children and a dog) was everything we could have wished for. We had a lovely week and no one, including our grandchildren wanted to leave. Whilst off the beaten track we found this to be an asset. Being able to roam freely (dogs on lead) over the private estates of 200 acres must surely be fairly unique. The cottage is newly built and decorated, furnished and fitted out to a very high standard. It is quite a long way to supermarkets so best to follow Boutiques Retreats advice and take plenty of food with you. We are very likely to return to Meriton. Thank You to Cate our host.
