Nestled between the rolling Cotswold hills and set within a pretty Oxfordshire village near Great Tew, The Snug is an exquisite, luxurious bolthole dating back to 1700 that once upon a time served as stables to the local manor house. Today, this wonderful detached cottage has been gloriously brought to life, becoming a welcoming home for couples and families alike.

Within the glowing golden sandstone exterior, you'll find an opulent yet welcoming dog-friendly retreat with beautiful bedrooms, a large kitchen for entertaining and a staggeringly opulent sitting room. Outside, gorgeous gardens with a large lawn lead down to a ha-ha and beyond that, sweeping views of the Swere Valley. Who could ask for more?

This dreamy retreat is just perfect for those seeking to explore this beautiful part of the world. Get your culture kicks in Oxford, home of the dreaming spires, whilst bask in the Bard at Shakespeare's hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon. Alternatively, lose yourself in the rolling countryside of the Cotswolds, whether it be exploring the fields and forests on foot, discovering chocolate-box pretty villages or hunkering down in a country pub - perfect.

Living

Just wow! The luxurious sitting room is just the place for long chats or just a snooze by the fire. With plumptuous Damask sofas, underfloor heating and a wood burner, this is a wonderful spot during the winter where you can cosy up with a bottle or two and enjoy a natter, whilst in the summer throw open the French windows and enjoy the soft country breeze and pretty views whilst the heat of the day magically turns into twilight and beyond.

Eating

The simply stunning kitchen is the ultimate space for entertaining. The vaulted ceiling and pale, calming tones make this a relaxing space, whilst eye catching artwork bedecks the walls. With an Everhot range cooker, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, double Belfast sink, microwave, washing machine and all-important Nespresso coffee machine, there's everything you need to rustle up meals, from lazy breakfasts on the terrace to late-night romantic meals a deux.

The large dining table for four sits within the kitchen, meaning the chef has company when cooking - the way it should be! And with underfloor heating should you need it, you'll be super-snug too.

Sleeping

Four steps lead up to the en suite master bedroom on the ground floor. This gorgeous room has a romantic king-size sleigh bed, built in wardrobe, drawers, and garden views.

Take the stairs up to the pretty second bedroom, tucked amongst the eaves. This room features a zip-and-link bed, meaning it can be made up as a twin (perfect for little ones) or another king size double.

All beds are swathed in pure white cotton linen, sumptuous bedding and cosy throws and cushions to ensure a blissful nights' sleep, with the gentle sound of birdsong to wake you in the morning - just idyllic!

Bathing

The master bedroom on the ground floor benefits from an en suite shower room, whilst the family bathroom on the ground floor has a stunning clawfoot bath for long soaks and a shower over it. Both come with underfloor heating for toasty toes whilst heated rails to keep towels warm and fluffy.

Outdoor space

Step through the French doors and you'll find a sun-soaked terrace leading to a sweeping lawn - perfect for picnics, games and your four-legged friends. There's a table, chairs and barbeque too, so alfresco dining is a must, with sigh-inducing valley views to gaze at beyond the ha-ha. Please note, there is an approx. 5ft drop below the ha-ha and a raised stone lip defines the edge of the lawn. Sun loungers, blankets and cushions are for those lazy days when you want to sunbathe, read and listen to the buzz of bees.

Parking

There is private parking for up to two cars.

Babies and children

Babes in arms and children over the age of 10 are very welcome. A travel cot, highchair and stairgates are available on request.

Dogs

Two dogs are very welcome at The Snug. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

WiFi

The Snug has WiFi so if you need to stay in touch with the outside world you can.

Location and views were great, very quiet which is what we were looking for

I would definitely recommend this wonderful cottage for a truly relaxing break.

Stunning cottage with thoughtful attention to detail and magnificent views all around. Especially appreciated the welcome pack for us and Gus our Sausage Dog. All in all, wonderful! 10 out of 10, many thanks.

What a fantastic weekend we had The most beautiful cottage with stunning views. Our girls loved watching the baby lambs and horses across the filed and we all felt very at home. Thank you for the welcome hamper, including the fizz which we very much enjoyed! Beautiful walks, yummy pub lunches and a fab visit to the Cotswolds Wildlife Park too! Thanks so much.

We had a wonderful break at The Snug, with lovely walks nearby and lots of brilliant local pubs (we recommend the George in the village, The Bull in Charlbury, and The Duck on the Pond!). The cottage was perfect, as described in the pictures and Gail was very communicative and helpful! Our dog loved the property and the location close to the farm walks. Thank you so much for a fantastic week.

The place was stunning and extremely well presented and the food and flowers provided were lovely. Gail and Tom were very helpful and responsive.

Just perfect and met all expectations. The Snug was set in a fabulous village with a great little pub 5 mins walk away. We visited some beautiful places and can’t wait to return one day.

Delightful week away yet again in this stunning property and location. We had a wonderful stay! It's the third time we have stayed here, which says it all. Thank you one again for the doggy basket and wonderful treats left for us.

Fantastic, well stocked cottage. An ideal break. The hosts were brilliant and on hand to clarify things. Lovely interior. 5 star!!

Fanastic remote location and such a comfortable cottage barn for the time we spent there. We loved it. We would love to come back and enjoyed a long walk and some of the local pubs.

Thank you!

Absolute magic time. A little piece of heaven! We so appreciated the treats and welcome fireplace! What a lovely little place! We will be back!

Fabulous week away, beautiful place to stay, first class, amazing views would highly recommend.

What a peaceful and idyllic setting - we could have spent hours walking over to the the fields with the horses and sheep wandering around. Loved our 3 day break and a great kitchen for cooking. Thank you.

Was an amazing few days - super relaxing and everything was perfection.

Such a beautiful place to stay! We cannot wait to come back. It was the perfect spot for a peaceful and intimate honeymoon.

This was a magic stay in a magic cottage. We felt like we were in our own home. Thank you so much for all the goodies and recommendations of restaurants. We loved waking up next to the horses and really enjoyed our stay. We hope to come back.

One word to describe this cottage: perfection.

We had a lovely stay in the Snug, celebrating my partner’s 60th birthday. The welcome hamper was very generous and set us up for the weekend.

The cottage had a very family welcome feel. Very comfortable home from home. We cooked everyday there and spent quite a bit of time in the cottage due to poor weather, so we made the most of the property. All in all a perfect family time.

Best venue for pet friendly people

Incredibly generous hamper items on arrival. A great cupboard full of those little essentials like oil, herbs, seasoning, flour etc which made cooking at home so much easier. Loved the Everhot aga. Fantastic outlook from the garden.

We had a lovely one week stay at The Snug. The cottage is well presented and met our high expectations. Very comfortable living space for our family of three - with lovely views and a nice enclosed garden for our dog. The location is great to explore beautiful Cotswolds villages, Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Blenheim Palace, etc.

Property Quality throughout, furnishings stylish, totally relaxing & location tranquil.

The Snug is the perfect peaceful break away from it all; so comfortable, exceptionally well equipped, beautifully decorated and furnished, with wonderful views across fields of grazing horses and sheep - incredible to wake up to every day. The extremely generous welcome pack was a lovely surprise on check-in, and so thoughtful. Beautiful walks on the doorstep and a great local pub. Don't hesitate to book!

Perfect cottage. Well equipped and great location.

Such a superb stay we extended by 2 nights! They most pretty, pristine and clean cottage with an abundant welcome hamper. Every small detail has been thought about which makes The Snug feel like home. The situation is next to a farm so you can enjoy the views with horses and sheep. It is tucked away but easy to access and get to everything location wise. It is quiet and the views of the sun rises and sets are beautiful. Our dogs loved running around and the garden is nice and secure. Parking is easy and the log burner a dream with the largest log store ever! We are just back and looking to return again later in the year. I’m sure everyone loves this cosy Cotswolds character cottage - certainly the guest book indicated that! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We had a wonderful return stay at this beautiful cottage. Thank you for the lovely welcome basket and dog goodies, they were very much appreciated. We had a really relaxing stay, including lots of dog walking and sitting by the log burner. The perfect place to welcome in the New Year.

Beautiful cottage, interior was to a very high standard, very comfortable and very well equipped, lovely hamper left. Exceptionally clean.

Lovely property in a great location.

The place was fantastic, exactly as described. The fact that some odds and ends of bread, milk and so on were left is always a nice touch.

Wow...an amazing 5 star property. Couldn’t ask for better. The hosts left the most wonderful welcome pack. I have already booked for December.

Great location for all the lovely villages in Oxfordshire. It's a must to visit the Marlestone Tavern (the pie pub), numerous farm shops, cafes. Fantastic cottage with marvellous views. We loved our break at the Snug.

Beautiful cottage with amazing views. Close enough to visit Cotswolds popular sightseeing areas or just relax at the Snug and take in the views. Amazing find.

It was a lovely luxurious cottage in a fantastic location with everything you could possibly need. The views were simply stunning. Bath time was also an indulgent affair with a sumptuous roll top bath. Just perfect!

We have had an excellent time in this beautiful cottage that is set in an idyllic location. It has been lovely to relax in the garden in the evening with a glass of wine and something cooking on the barbeque. Thank you for the small touches that make staying here a break away from home. We look forward to returning in future.

We enjoyed a wonderful week at The Snug. The cottage is just beautiful. All the little touches make it feel so homely and luxurious. Thank you for the lovely food goodies, they went down very nicely. We packed a lot into our week, Bicester Village, Oxford, Daylesford, Blenheim Palace and more! Thank you for a magical week, we will be returning!

A lovely cottage in a blissfully quiet rural area. Well equipped, and beautifully furnished/decorated.

We really enjoyed our stay and overall the Snug exceeded our high expectations.

Perfect in every way.

We loved it. Already planning to book again. The walks from the door were perfect, the views were spectacular, a local Indian restaurant delivers (ideal for that first night), lovely local pubs, cottage was big and well equipped. It was ALL GOOD!

Owners very generous with their welcome pack. Lots of goodies which was unexpected and very kind.

Amazing location. Luxurious but homely, with a lovely energy and feel to the cottage. Loved the decor, flowers and goodies. Very peaceful and amazing hosts who obviously know how to treat their guests. I hope to return again soon!

A truly delightful stay! Simply wonderful property and a great time was had by all the family.

On arrival, we were greeted with everything we needed for a nice supper of cheese, grapes & bread a nice bottle of Prosecco. There was even tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, bacon, eggs, butter for breakfast. Even our dogs were given their own hamper of treats, towel, food/water bowls, such a nice touch. The cottage was everything we hoped, fab interior, comfortable beds, more than enough towels, bath robes, just every detail was thought of and it is so peaceful there. Loved sitting in the living room in the mornings, looking out of the French Doors with a cuppa, watching the horses, sheep, birds, in the fields beyond. Would thoroughly recommended The Snug and Boutique Retreats. They maybe a little bit more expensive than other Cottage Holiday companies, but they say "you get what you pay for" & we most certainly did, it was worth every penny 100%

The most luxurious and well equipped holiday property I have stayed in. Everything was perfect and in a great location for exploring Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds. The local pub is fab with very good food.

Beautiful cottage, stylish interiors and very well equipped with amazing views for the perfect retreat for rest and relaxation.

Gorgeous, cosy cottage for our winter retreat. Well equipped and all as described. Owners extremely helpful. Highly recommend.

A perfect break in a perfect cottage! What a peaceful and relaxing spot - we all had a fantastic time. The cottage had everything we needed and more. We really appreciated the lovely welcome breaks - something for everyone! Very highly recommended.

The most fabulous place to spend my 50th birthday celebrations!

Beautiful cottage in an idyllic location. We loved all the little touches within the cottage, couldn't have asked for more. This was the perfect place to celebrate our engagement. I'm sure we will be back again soon as Mr & Mrs Earl. Thanks so much!

A return visit post-birthing two children so very different in nature (aka TIRING!) but still such a wonderful place to spend a week with lots of adventures. Ophelia loved her 'big girl' bedroom especially and the tots trivia game - small things make a big difference! Very well kitted out as before - thank you Gail and Tom!

Superb in every which way, we cannot recommend this beautiful cottage highly enough.

'This is one of the best cottages we have stayed in - 5 stars awarded! The welcome treats were extremely generous and much appreciated. What a lovely location with great walks on the doorstep. We travelled further afield to Tewksbury and Stratford too. The George Inn is a ten minute walk away, and we also ate at the Castle, Edgehill (fabulous setting). We will highlghly recommend this beautiful cottage and may well return!' - September 2021

'Beautiful cottage, we've loved staying here. The George Inn is great for food and in walking distance so hubby didn't need to drive. Stunning walks for Mollie all over. Sitting out in the garden with a glass of wine looking at the views is a must! We'll be back.' - Williams, September 2021

'We wanted to escape London and the hustle and bustle! What an escape it was. A quiet cottage - so peaceful. Loved every minute of it. Allowed the family to bond with long walks etc. Lovely places for trekking, lovely pubs and lovely drives.' - Blyth, September 2021

'What wonderful peace and tranquility in this restful home and surrounding gardens and views. So special we were reluctant to leave for our 3 days! Thank you from all of us for a special time of relaxation. Glorious.' - June 2021

'I will never forget my 60th birthday celebrations in your wonderful cottage. We enjoyed the view and the peace and quiet - it was so relaxing; a million miles away from the busy noisy south-east. Thank you for the lovely, very generous welcome pack - it was most appreciated.' - June 2021

'We have had a lovely stay at your beautiful cottage. The extra touches were lovely and our dog Minibar loved his treats! Thank you so much for a lovely week!' - May 2021

'We've had the most wonderfu time and been blessed with some beautiful weather. The cottage is absolutely wonderful - built as a home rather than a holiday let which so many are. We thought it looked good from the photos but it's even better in reality. Thank you' - October 2020
