Set in the remarkably pretty Hope Valley in the Peak District, Ivy Cottage is the quintessentially picture-perfect retreat away from it all. With climbing roses surrounding the beautiful stone mullion windows, step inside and you'll discover a warm and welcoming homestay, complete with two wood burners, three beautiful bedrooms and a stunning garden to call your own. It's no surprise that Ivy Cottage has been featured by The Times as 'one of the cosiest places to stay in the Peak District'...

Dog friendly, this is a wonderful escape for couples, families, and friends alike. Its quiet setting and astonishing views make it perfect for peace-seeking folks, whilst the rolling hills of the Peak District are a huge draw for walkers and nature lovers.

Set in Castleton in the Hope Valley, this is a gloriously beautiful spot with so many things to do right on your doorstep from walking and cycling to hang-gliding, caving and rock climbing. There are show caves to explore and a castle to discover, whilst the imposing Mam Tor (the shivering mountain), Great Ridge and limestone canyon of Winnats Pass are just a few of the natural wonders of the area.

Special 'Just for Two' rate

A special 'Just for Two' rate applies all year round at Ivy Cottage. The discount is 10% and this is on the basis that only the master bedroom is used during your stay. Please call the office on 01872 553491 if you have any questions or would like to book.

Living

Completely embracing the country cottage feel, the welcoming sitting room is a lovely space, resplendent with wood burner, two sumptuous charcoal grey velvet sofas and a large, squishy green velvet armchair. With countryside views and a Smart TV, there's also a Roberts digital radio with Bluetooth. For non-electrical entertainment, there's some good old-fashioned board games and a selection of books to choose from, including walking guides for the surrounding area to inspire you whether you want to do a few miles or a longer jaunt.

Eating

Just wow! We're in love with Ivy Cottage's stunning handmade green kitchen, beautifully topped with a Silestone quartz marble effect work surface and with underfloor heating. It's not style over substance though, as the kitchen comes fully equipped with everything you could need for rustling up meals, with an electric fan oven, induction hob, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, washing machine and all the other essentials including a Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine.

Just next door, set in front of a cosy wood burner, sits the dining table with chairs and bench for six. A wonderful space for mealtimes with gorgeous, exposed beams and dual-aspect windows, the room encourages lingering over each course and every glass of wine, cherishing time together that makes holidays so special.

Sleeping

There are three equally beautiful bedrooms to choose from.

The master bedroom has a stylish wooden king-sized bed, part-panelled walls, gorgeously botanical wallpaper, with dual aspect window overlooking the rolling hills to the front and the garden to the back, dressing table, wardrobe, and a Smart TV. This is a peaceful room with touches of green to evoke the countryside beyond.

Bedroom two in restful cream tones has a gorgeous wrought iron king-sized bed, chest of drawers and stunning countryside views. It has a useful separate dressing area with dressing table, perfect for getting ready for the day ahead.

Bedroom three has a charming French-inspired double bed, original feature fireplace, pretty ivy-themed wallpaper, useful hanging space and country views, with a delightful small second window for dual aspect views.

All the beds are dressed in luxurious linens, cloud-soft bedding and sumptuous cushions and throws to ensure a blissful nights' sleep.

Bathing

Downstairs, you'll find a wet room shower with underfloor heating and heated towel rail, perfect for wake-me-up morning ablutions or for warming up after a bracing walk over the Peaks. Upstairs, there's a gorgeous family bathroom with overhead shower above a large bath, a must for deep soaks with your favourite book and a glass of something in hand - it has a dreamy view over the garden too!

Outdoor space

Ivy Cottage benefits from both a front and back garden to call your own. To the front, next to the front door and in front of the rose-covered frontage, sits a charming bench - the perfect spot for a morning coffee overlooking the incredible rolling countryside in front of you, with just the sound of the bees and sheep accompanying you.

To the back lies a tiered garden with a terrace complete with table and chairs for dining and a further elevated spot with a table and chairs boasting fantastic views over the cottage and surrounding countryside. Backed by open, rolling fields and landscaped with gentle, naturalistic planting, this is a peaceful spot that once the sun sets, can be lit by warm, twinkling lights. Just magical!

Parking

There is on-road parking available directly in front of the cottage.

Babies and children

Ivy Cottage welcomes babies and children. A travel cot is provided.

Dogs

One well-behaved dog is welcome at Ivy Cottage. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

In the Area

Ivy Cottage lies in Castleton in Hope Valley, right in the heart of the Peak District, making it the perfect base from which to explore the uniquely beautiful Peak District National Park. One of the most popular spots in the Peak District, Castleton boasts four astonishing show caves open to the public - Peak Cavern, Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern and Blue John Mine - offering a fabulous peek into life underground. Throughout the year, Peak Cavern holds concerts and events whilst during December the incredibly popular carols in the cavern take place each weekend. Peveril Castle, in comparison, looms high above the village and is a wonderful English Heritage property and well worth exploring - the views from here over Castleton and Mam Tor (the 'shivering mountain') and along the Great Ridge, are spectacular. For the more adventurous, hang gliding from Mam Tor is a popular pastime here, whilst for those who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground, there's walks galore, whether its amongst the hills or along the river, short or far. Castleton has lots of fabulous eateries and independent shops to explore, whilst also being a fantastic base to explore the surrounding area. The fabulous Chatsworth House, with its playground and gardens, is only a 25-minute drive from the cottage and well worth a visit is the award winning Estate farm shop. Other fabulous highlights include Bakewell, Haddon Hall (a medieval stately home), the heated outdoor swimming pool at Hathersage (just ten minutes away) and the Derwent and Ladybower dams in the Derwent Valley, used as the location for filming the world famous 'Dam Busters' film.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Ivy Cottage:

Beautiful spot in a beautiful spot.

Wonderful cottage in perfect location for walking, hiking and exploring the Peak District or for staying in Castleton. Superbly equipped. A very relaxing and comfortable stay.

Comfortable well appointed cottage. No dedicated parking but you can nearly always part outside. Great position. Can easily walk into town for restaurants/pubs etc.

Beautifully presented cottage in a breath-taking location. Panoramic views to the front and easy walk into the village, with its good choice of eateries and access to historic sites and country walks. Luxury accommodation yet very welcoming, from the local produce provided and many books/guides to the area to browse through, not to mention the homely period interior, with many interesting rustic accessories. We were a group of 6, including dog and there was ample room for us all; the kitchen is large and well-equipped and the dining area is ideal for meals and boardgames. The bedrooms are particularly well decorated and cosy. Definitely a boutique retreat worthy of its name.

Stylish interiors and good living room set up with a separate dining room and well stocked kitchen

A lovely comfortable stay at Ivy Cottage. Plenty of really good walks straight from the front door. We really enjoyed ourselves!

The attention to detail and love that has gone into making this a wonderful retreat for guests is apparent in everything. High quality furnishings and linens make it feel like a 5* hotel. The location near to Mam Tor and Edale makes this a perfect spot for exploring the Peaks. Dog-friendly with an enclosed garden and plenty of eateries within a few minutes' walk make it a restful and relaxing place to stay. We will certainly be returning.

We loved the decoration of the house, the fireplaces too! Excellent equipment of the kitchen, the house has a beautiful view on the valley, and the setting is very nice on the back garden.

This is a stunning cottage and truly is a retreat in every sense of the word.

If you are looking for the perfect Peak District place to stay, the cottage and location is pretty much unrivalled. Beautifully decorated and furnished throughout, comfortable sofas, beds, cosy rooms with toasty log burners and the well appointed kitchen has all the mod cons. Step outside and you in the heart of some of the most desirable walks in the area, with pubs, cafe's restaurants just a few steps away. The cottage however is tucked away at the end of a quiet lane and so is blissfully quiet. Recommended 100%!

Lovely location, nice and snug

Beautiful accommodation, wonderful location

Amazing property in a wonderful location. Walkable to everything (lace up your hiking boots) although leaving the cottage was a struggle because it’s so comfortable and well appointed!

Picture postcard cottage in fabulous location, near all amenities yet peaceful and with stunning views. Loved the multiple walks straight from the front door and returning at the end of a busy day exploring to be cocooned by the warm and cosy Ivy Cottage!

Ivy Cottage is absolutely stunning, the epitome of a 'boutique retreat'. The interior is decorated and furnished to an exceptionally high standard, with the kitchen being particularly well resourced. We wanted for nothing at all during our stay - Jo was the perfect host and has clearly thought very carefully about how to ensure her guests have a memorable experience in her cottage.

To be honest everywhere we have booked through Boutique Retreats have been wonderful but this particular cottage and location was outstanding.

Beautiful cottage in superb location. Stulishly decorated. Can't wait to return.

Beautiful cottage and stunning location

By far the best cottage we have rented. Wonderful in every way. Above and beyond. Plus your service is outstanding.

The cottage was exactly as described. It was in a great location and beautifully presented and decorated. There were even walking books and guides and games. Everything was very easy and we had a fantastic weekend. Thank you!

A lovely cottage in a great location . Fantastically beatiful area with great walks and other activities. Wonderful walkable accessbility to useful shops and pubs in a very pretty village.

Fantastic location and beautiful views. A very cosy cottage. When the wind and rain were lashing down to light our log burner and play board games as a family was very precious time well spent in perfect surroundings.

Lovely looking cottage, well appointed and stunning views, great walks on your doorstep.

Perfect location for great walks and pub lunches!

We had a lovely time in this beautiful property in a fabulous location - the decor was stunning.
