This handsome Georgian farmhouse is the perfect setting for larger gatherings, whether it's an extended family get together or a getaway with friends. Step inside, and you'll find a stunning, lovingly restored homestay with beautiful interiors, sympathetically designed to the make the most of this gorgeous home's original features. There's plenty of space for entertaining and six blissful bedrooms, three of which are en suite. Outside, the garden is large enough for dogs to roam and little ones to play, whilst grown-ups will love the plethora of seating areas and indulging in the bubbling hot tub.

In addition, the 'Croft' is slightly separate to the main house with two of the bedrooms, its own kitchen and living space, making it ideal should part of your group seek a little separation from the rest of the party. Situated close to iconic Glastonbury, this is the perfect countryside idyll yet is less than three hours from London. Bath is just 25 miles away, and closer by you have the beautiful Mendip Hills to explore whilst the city of Wells, Bruton and Frome are waiting to be discovered.

Living

As you would expect for such a grand homestay, there is plenty of space for everyone at Meadowsweet. The main sitting room is the perfect setting for cosy evenings in, with the warmth of the roaring fire keeping you company as you sit and chat over drinks. In the Croft, there's a smaller sitting room also with a crackling wood burner and a comfy leather sofa plus two occasional chairs - perfect for those seeking a quieter space.

As well as the sitting rooms, there's a fabulous media room with large Smart TV with Sky TV (sports and movies) and SONOS sound system, plus a games room with pool table, table tennis and dart board.

Eating

The stunning, spacious kitchen is as perfect example of a traditional farmhouse but with all the modern luxuries. At its heart, the four-oven Aga lies nestled within the large inglenook fireplace. There are extensive granite preparation areas on the large kitchen island that also has a breakfast bar area at one end. If Aga cooking makes you apprehensive, don't worry - there is also a Neff electric fan/convection/ microwave oven with grill and a four-ring induction hob. In addition, the kitchen is fully equipped with pretty much every conceivable accessory, including the all-important Nespresso coffee machine. There is also a large pantry with cold slate surfaces and shelving, plus the American style fridge freezer with ice and cold-water facilities.

In addition, in the Croft, there's another contemporary country kitchen with granite tops boasting a double oven, induction hob, large island for prepping food and everything else you might need. There's also a Dualit coffee machine with milk frother for coffee aficionados.

Sleeping and bathing

There are six lovely bedrooms to choose from, all located on the ground and first floor.

The master bedroom lies on the first floor to the front of the farmhouse and is simply beautiful with a spacious super king bed, cream headrest, dual aspect windows and an en suite bathroom with stunning copper bath and large walk-in shower.

'Bruton' lies to the front of the farmhouse and is a pretty bedroom with an impressive, high-backed wooden king-sized sleigh bed, with en suite bathroom with shower overhead.

'Charlton' lies to the back of the farmhouse and has a low-backed king size sleigh bed, with an en suite shower room.

In addition, 'Wells' is a gorgeous double bedroom in the farmhouse with use of the family bathroom that lies across the hallway, which has a large roll top bath plus a separate shower.

In the Croft, there are two further bedrooms and a bathroom, each located on the first floor. The delightful king size bedroom in natural shades has views over the garden, whilst the second bedroom has 3ft wrought iron twin beds - perfect for little ones - with a wardrobe and chest of drawers. The bathroom has a bath for long soaks with a shower overhead.

Setting

Meadowsweet enjoys a quiet rural setting in a small hamlet, so as there are other residential properties in the vicinity, we ask our guests to respect our neighbour's peace and privacy and not to play excessive or loud music inside or outside the retreat. We kindly ask that you be particularly considerate between the hours of 10pm to 9am.

Outdoor space

The farmhouse has a formal garden to the front, and lawned areas to the rear, perfect for children to play on, games and for your dog to run about. There's a spacious gravelled area to the back of Meadowsweet where there's a large teak table and chairs for a spot of alfresco dining during warmer weather, along with a large Weber gas barbeque. In addition, there are teak steamer loungers and a garden bench for those days when you just want to lounge at home.

You're also free to explore the extensive gardens to the rear of the farmhouse and to use the tennis court and lovely west-facing outdoor heated seating area that captures the last of the afternoon sun. Of course, a farmstead wouldn't be complete without a few animals, but don't worry they will be looked after by the owners and their helpers, so you may see them tending to the pet sheep, hens and farm cat, as well as maintaining the gardens and vegetable patch.

Parking

There is plenty of off road, private parking.

Babies and children

Meadowsweet is delighted to welcome babies and children. A travel cot, highchair and stair gate can be provided on request.

Dogs

One well-behaved dog is very welcome at Meadowsweet. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

WiFi

Meadowsweet has WiFi, so if you need to stay in touch with the outside world you can.

In the Area

The Mendip Hills are just a short drive away and a must-do; the walking here is fantastic, and you'll witness the most beautiful views. Wookey Hole Caves, with over 60,000 years of history and Cheddar Gorge, a limestone gorge set in the Mendip Hills, are both wonderful natural landmarks and well worth a visit. Glastonbury is also nearby and a must-see for the Tor, Abbey and Sacred Well. The Newt in Somerset is a must for that special meal or to visit the amazing gardens. The city of Wells has a beautiful cathedral and a fab market. Bruton is a lovely little town just fifteen minutes away where there are some brilliant places in to eat, including At The Chapel (who also have a fantastic bakery) and Roth Bar & Grill. There are lots of independent shops, two excellent pubs and a thriving community - there's always something going on. The famous Hauser & Wirth gallery set in a beautifully restored 18th century farm, just outside Bruton, is a real treat for art lovers. The market town of Frome, half an hour away, has a famous and very popular artisan market on the first weekend of each month, with the added temptation of designer, vintage, and craft shops in cobbled St Catherine's Hill. The Roman city of Bath is a 50-minute drive away and great to visit during longer stays, whilst the Dorset coast is just over an hour away by car. All this just under three hours' drive or train journey from London!

For younger ones, Longleat, with its lions and safari park, is just 20 miles away and a great day out, and for those who enjoy gardens the world-famous National Trust gardens at Stourhead 17 miles away are a must.

For the more adventurous, we've teamed up with Fly Away Balooning, a hot air balloon company who will provide a balloon trip from the farmhouse, subject to weather conditions. What better way to enjoy the peace of the stunning rolling Somerset countryside, and, winds permitting, the Glastonbury Tor and private view of the festival site!

Nestled in the Somerset countryside, our extensive farmstead is the ideal setting for grand get-togethers, with hot tub and tennis court. It's dog friendly too!

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Meadowsweet:

It was a beautiful home with an excellent attention to detail. Extremely clean and the beds were so comfortable. So much to do in the house and gardens and in a gorgeous setting.

Fantastic house for a family celebration - beautifully furnished, well equipped and very spacious. Gorgeous gardens and we enjoyed the tennis court as well.

Lovely house and extensive gardens, very well furnished and comfortable.

Meadowsweet (Huxham Farmhouse) was the perfect stay for our break which included a large group of adults and a few toddlers. The house itself is stunning and has everything included that you could possibly need. The owner Andrew was incredibly helpful and accommodating with early check ins and recommendations for what to do nearby. I’d definitely recommend visiting Wraxhall Vineyard which is a short walk from the house and Stourhead House (National Trust) only a 25mins drive away. All of our group loved their rooms and thoroughly enjoyed all of the amenities included in the house. The kids especially loved the hens and sheep in the garden next door! Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again.

Absolutely gorgeous stay. So many little details that made a huge impact. We had a lovely time.

Absolutely stunning Home and location for a celebration for 3 generations of ten people Everything provided that was needed. An amazing house and garden. Plenty of space to relax both inside and outside of this beautiful home.

Meadowsweet was an excellent property, very comfortable and well equipped. The beds were particularly comfortable. The property was very well located with plenty to do within 30 mins of the location.

Stunning house with beautiful surroundings and everything you could possibly need in the house. Would highly recommend any time of year.

Meadowsweet is wonderful. Can't fault it for a rural-retreat holiday.
