Out & About

Grab your bucket and spade (or sunglasses and book) and head to this vibrant, temperate seaside town. Sitting on the most southerly tip of South Devon, Salcombe calls to discerning holidaymakers looking for somewhere to spend a whirlwind romantic break or much-anticipated week or two away. Flaunting super-soft sandy beaches and ensconced in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this much-loved spot will capture your imagination in no time.

Whether you’re into water sports, lazing on the beach, walking the beautiful coastal path with your dog or idling away an hour or two in the galleries and shops before tucking into an indulgent cream tea, there is truly something for everyone. Take a browse of our luxury cottages, revisiting a firm favourite or discovering somewhere new to escape reality for a while surrounded by 5-star comforts.

As you would imagine, Salcombe has lots of fab places to eat. The great-named Winking Prawn is a relaxed, vibrant beach cafe by North Sands and perfect for a spot of lunch if you don’t want to move far from the beach. Decide which is better, the tastes or the views (it’s a hard call), and lap up the atmosphere as you savour the moment.

If you love pub vibes but don’t want to miss out on high quality cuisine, give the Victoria Inn a try. Using locally-sourced produce and manned by friendly staff, it’ll soon become evident why the pub has been award the Taste of the West gold medals six years in a row. For all things seafood, make sure the Crab Shed is on your list. With its fabulous waterfront views, it affords a lovely location for watching the fishing boats return with their catch.

If you need a good ol’ shot of caffeine to kick start your day, head to Salcombe Coffee Co and browse the offerings (the cakes are mighty good too). Or, for drinks with a view, Dick and Wills is a lovely bar & brasserie with a terrace – perfect for supping a bottle of something cool and bubbly whilst soaking up the sunshine. The Ferry Inn serves an excellent beer too and is a naturally popular spot in the summer months thanks to its waterside location.

Dubbed the UK's Best Craft Beer Bar only 50 yards from the beach, the Cove Café in Hope Cove is all about good vibes. Serving everything from organic coffees to craft beers and artisan ales, this is a great place to sit back and watch the sunshine bounce off the sea and mingle amongst new friends and old. For a revitalising burst, Sailor V in Salcombe offers a delicious range of smoothies, juice blends and shakes.

Life in Salcombe very much revolves around the water and there’s always plenty to do, from kayaking to paddle boarding, and from sailing to simply swimming in the clear waters. If you can’t wait to feel the sand between your toes, Salcombe’s North Sands beach is close to the town nestled between two headlands and, great news for canine chums, is dog-friendly year-round. Just watch out, the beach completely disappears at high tide. Also nearby, South Sands is one of the most unspoilt beaches in South Devon, so well worth a visit too!

For land lubbers, the coastal paths offer jaw-dropping views; the Soar to Salcombe stretch of the South West Coast Path is exceptionally good and offers the chance to visit the hidden beach at Soar Mill Cove en route. The 3-mile circular walk to Bolt Head is another great choice for keen walkers, or you could just stay closer to home and browse the numerous shops, boutiques and galleries found in the town. However you choose to fill your days, nothing will be more perfect than returning to your luxury boutique retreat for pure R&R.
