We excitedly set off on a sunny Friday, eager to begin our journey to Kilter House – a gorgeous Georgian farmhouse for eight, promising an enchanting escape for exploring the Lizard and a stone's throw from the charming village of Coverack.

We ventured through Cornwall’s winding roads, admiring the picturesque countryside scenery. As we drove down the private lane on our approach, we could hardly contain our excitement as the retreat appeared within our view in what felt like a magical green wonderland.

Entering through the large granite porch, the property's warm light created a welcoming ambience and made us feel instantly at home upon our arrival. To start our weekend getaway, we were treated to a bottle of bubbles within the thoughtfully prepared welcome hamper. Making the most of the Cornish sunshine, we took the time to unwind and embrace our tranquil surroundings on the outside patio. Perfectly positioned for sunlit bliss, we took a moment to sip our bubbles and recline on the comfortable loungers.

Dinner time soon approached, and we opted to prepare a fresh Italian feast in the impressive country kitchen. We gathered around the kitchen island, each tasked with a role in preparing our evening meal, from creating homemade spaghetti, to choosing the perfect bottle of wine to accompany our Italian delights.

With the evening drawing in, we soaked up the views of the setting sun as we dined alfresco. It was a truly perfect way to celebrate our first evening at Kilter House.

In preparation for an exciting day ahead, we awoke on a rainy Saturday morning, wanting nothing more than a freshly brewed coffee to accompany our breakfast, prepared using the delicious locally sourced items within our welcome hamper.

We enjoyed our peaceful morning, waiting for the rain to pass, and leisurely strolled down the road into Coverack. With glimpses of the sea en route, in just twenty minutes we arrived in the quaint Cornish village. Although misty, we enjoyed our warm cup of coffee, which was locally roasted in Porthleven, along with a hot chocolate at Loft overlooking the harbourside. Whilst enjoying our heart-warming delights, we soaked up the ambiance, listening to the laughter of those around us and watching birds swoop and swirl above the calming waves.

The clouds parted on our way back to the cottage, and once again the sun came out to greet us. As we were celebrating one of our birthdays, we took the opportunity to set up a picnic in the fairytale garden. After indulging in the summery spread, we could no longer resist the call of the hot tub, dipping into the inviting bubbles with a celebratory glass of prosecco.

As the evening approached, the birthday girl decided to treat herself to a warm bubble bath, while the rest of us enjoyed a game of scrabble. We all then slowly got ready ahead of our evening meal at The Three Tuns in nearby St Keverne. Once ready, we jumped into the car, and within minutes we arrived at the pub. It was full of charm and offered a delectable and varied menu for us to enjoy.

After a lovely evening, we retired to Kilter House, lit the fire and soaked up the cosy interiors of our luxury abode. Sitting on the sumptuous sofas, we enjoyed a glass of crisp wine beside the crackle of the fire, whiling away our evening sharing fireside stories. As night fell, we retreated to our comfortable beds, ready for another day in paradise.

After a busy Saturday, we each enjoyed a blissful lie in amidst the cloud-soft linens of our super-king beds, before savouring freshly baked pastries from the comfort of our rooms as we got ready to explore this idyllic part of Cornwall.

Our first stop of the day was the tropical paradise of Glendurgan Gardens, owned by the National Trust. After 30 minutes of taking in the majestic surroundings of the winding country roads, we set off into the gardens with the map the friendly team had kindly provided us with. Having walked around the gardens we decided to pause and take in the beautiful scenery.

During our restful stop we soon realised how quickly time had passed and were ready to enjoy some lunch. Reviewing the recommendations within the check-in guide, we set our eye on Sula Brunch House, situated within the boatyard in Gweek. The rustic setting of the café overlooking the riverside filled with moored boats full of stories and charm was the perfect place for us to stop and enjoy the bliss of the day we had already shared thus far – it was a true hidden gem. We perused the menu options and opted for the fluffiest of pancakes, peanut butter and banana topped sourdough, a passionfruit peach iced tea, Sicilian lemonade and the most divine latte.

Feeling full of energy after our alfresco brunch we walked alongside the boatyard and across the road to the small locally run organic farm shop, strolling thought the aisles we were surprised of the variety of produce that was showcased on their shelves.

Walking back to the car, we then decided to make our way to the nearby village of Cagdwith to take in as much of the Cornish coastline as we could. This small, picturesque village setting offered an insightful view of the warmth and sense of community found within the Lizard. To further our fondness, we stumbled into the Cadgwith Cove Inn to share a drink, and were overjoyed as the sound of sea shanties filled the air.

Following our visit to Cadgwith, we returned to Kilter House once more to relax for a couple of hours before dinner. We had so very much enjoyed our trip to Coverack the day before, that we decided to make the most of what the village had to offer. We walked to the end of the harbour and laid our eyes upon The Paris Hotel, a delightful pub with spectacular sea views, positioned on the water's edge. Host to a fabulous menu of homemade classics, the friendly staff made us feel ever so welcome.

To make the most of our final night at Kilter House, we returned to the glorious garden and decided to reside in the Nordic-style seats and indulge in some toasted marshmallows in front of the fire pit. After what had been a joyful yet busy day, we packed our belongings away and retreated to our bedrooms for our final night of soundful sleep.

Reminiscent of the wonderful memories that had been made over our magical weekend, we reluctantly waved goodbye to our dreamy staycation and set off on our return journey home.
