In the dusk‑dappled glow of a Friday evening in March, we arrived at Trevear Farm near Padstow, excited to see our home for the weekend perched on the brow of its impressive 75‑acre grounds. With eight retreats on the farm, sleeping up to a total of 42 guests, plus a host of excellent facilities, including a heated indoor pool, fully equipped gym, rejuvenating steam room, farm shop and a fully stocked honesty bar, you’ll find all you could possibly need for a relaxing staycation. Broadview, a large and luxurious retreat for ten, is the perfect getaway for family and friends, with a layout that worked perfectly for both families in our party, complete with two couples, teenagers Ava and Laurie, four‑year‑old Freddie, and a pair of lively Cockapoos, Dexter and Rio.

As the adults unloaded the car, Ava and Laurie wasted no time in locating the pool table within the games room, while Freddie enthusiastically told us about all the animals he had seen on the Trevear Farm Tour, including pigs, sheep and friendly alpacas. He especially loved feeding Dave the alpaca! Wanting to make the most of the last of the evening sun, we sat out in the garden with a glass of crisp wine, watching the dogs chase each other around the expansive garden.

Thoughts turned to dinner, and we looked through the local recommendations on the house iPad, before deciding on fish and chips from the award-winning Seasmiths in nearby Wadebridge. After collecting our supper, we laid the grand dining table to savour the freshly caught cod and piping hot chips beside the cosy log burner, relishing the views of patchwork fields beyond the bi-fold doors.

After our meal, Chris and Darren retreated with the older children to the games room to play darts, while Freddie set up a cosy corner on the large sofa to enjoy some well-earned chill time. We spent the rest of the evening in the bubbling hot tub, catching up over some beautifully chilled Camel Valley wine, kindly left for us by the owners in the generous welcome hamper - the perfect end to our first evening at Broadview.

We arose on Saturday morning after the most restful night’s sleep in the stunning master bedroom, and Emma and I decided to make a visit to the well-equipped on-site gym, complete with state-of-the-art equipment for every kind of workout. After familiarising ourselves with the Peloton bike and the Smith machine, we made a stop at the Trevear Farm Shop, which was well stocked with lots of delicious goodies to savour at our luxury farmstay. We picked up some local sausages and bacon and headed back to beautiful Broadview to enjoy delicious breakfast with the rest of the group, where there were plenty of compliments on how fresh the Trevear Farm produce was.

Eager to visit the stunning indoor pool, Darren and Chris gathered the children and made their way to the Pool House for a late morning swim. Wanting to make the most of the dedicated dog exercise paddock, Emma and I took Dexter and Rio for a game of fetch and a run around. It was reassuring to know that the dogs could run around freely within this beautifully designed space. The owners of Trevear Farm have clearly put a lot of thought and attention into making the site as dog friendly as possible.

The swimmers arrived back at the retreat hungry, and after another quick glance at recommendations on the house iPad, we decide to visit Strong Aldofos, just a short drive from Broadview. Dog friendly, and with a menu that catered to everyone, we enjoyed a lovely lunch and a browse around the neighbouring shops before heading back to Broadview.

With the sun still shining, we spent the last few hours of the afternoon enjoying all that Trevear Farm had to offer, including visiting Robert’s Honesty Bar, where we were all sat together in the sunshine whilst treating ourselves to a refreshing drink from the well-stocked bar. The views of the countryside beyond the bar were just breathtaking, and we savoured every moment of the blissful surroundings until the sun set.

Wanting to make the most of the open plan living, kitchen and dining space, we prepared ‘picky bits’ for everyone to help themselves to in the evening, which was the perfect way for us all to spend time together. We played darts and pool, before relaxing in the hot tub while the children withdrew to the upper sitting room to watch a film before bed. As night fell, the adults relished a moment’s rest on the large sofa with a glass of wine, a dreamy end to our second day.

Sunday set off to a slow start, with the group enjoying a rare lie in, what a treat! As everyone slowly arose, we took the dogs out to explore the farm grounds before revisiting the dog exercise paddock for an off-lead run around. After our walk, Emma and I ventured down to the Pool House for a soothing dip in the heated pool with the kids while Chris and Darren prepared brunch with the remainder of the sausages and bacon from the on-site farm shop, accompanied by the fresh eggs and bread from our welcome hamper.

After we’d eaten, we drove to Padstow for a dose of seaside magic, meandering the harbour and quaint shops before sampling some delicious Cornish ice cream. Fully embracing our last evening together, we returned to our heavenly homestay for more hot tub dips and games of pool and darts in the fantastic games room.

Chris and I woke early on Monday morning, and while the rest of the group were enjoying a lie in, we headed down to the gym for a quick workout, before treating ourselves to a swim in the heated pool, and finally enjoying a relaxing visit to the steam room. The on-site facilities are a real luxury, and a beautiful addition to Broadview and Trevear Farm. Feeling refreshed and energised, we headed back to the house for breakfast and reluctantly packed our bags after a wonderful weekend. Broadview was the perfect setting for our two families to enjoy a relaxing weekend, and we can’t wait to return soon.
