We arrived late on the Friday evening, my grandmother and I, and I won’t lie to you the Cornish weather was not in our favour. It had been raining all day and the temperature had certainly dropped. But this didn’t matter to us once we arrived at Barefoot Beach Hut. As soon as we saw the atmospheric light from inside pouring out of the windows, and the flickering of candles from the lanterns placed neatly outside of the door, we immediately felt warm and cosy.
As we stepped through the door, we were welcomed by some of the most beautiful local, homemade goodies; a crusty cob loaf, a ridiculously creamy sponge cake and of course a lovely bottle of fizz chilling in the fridge. The heavenly warmth inside the cottage melted our icicle-like fingers and toes. Gazing at the alluring interior, we felt completely relaxed. You can feel the sumptuous quality of everything that you touch, and you can envisage the love committed to every decision made during the creation of Barefoot Beach Hut. With little homely touches throughout the property that have been collected all over from Cornwall to New Zealand, there is something new to discover every time you look around.
That evening we made some sumptuous hot chocolate and sat down to watch a movie. The layout of the living area at Barefoot was so carefully thought out, and such a clever use of the space. The TV was perfectly placed, and the sofa was so comfortable. When those small details are done right, it certainly makes a huge impact on the enjoyment of your stay. There is everything you could need in the kitchen – it’s completely modern and stylish, yet as comforting as cooking at home. Some serious kitchen envies!
We woke up the following morning to unbroken peace and quiet – not a single sound. It was pure bliss. We had been left some local eggs in the cutest little dish to feast upon for breakfast, along with the crusty bread. My grandmother loves a traditional and simple breakfast, so this just added yet another special touch for our stay. After breakfast I made the most of the gorgeous, walk-in rain shower which feels like total luxury. I wasn’t quite brave enough to hop in the outside bath tub in the depths of November - but the beautiful smelling bubble bath provided was certainly enticing!
We left Barefoot Beach Hut for the day to explore the public footpath, almost next door to the cottage, which leads you down a coastal walk to Perranporth Beach. It was important for me to take my grandmother on this walk, as she loves to be outside and seek out all the beauty of nature. The rain faded away for a short while and the sun even made an appearance! The walk took us around 1 hour to get down to the beach, but we didn’t mind, as the walk itself was so beautiful and we could see the sparkle of the sea way ahead in the distance. It’s certainly a walk I would recommend to anyone who would like to discover more of the local area and soak up the beauty of the Cornish Coast.
After spending some time relaxing and resting our pins back at Barefoot Beach Hut, we decided to try out the food and atmosphere of the Smugglers Den Inn, near Holywell Bay and just around the corner from the cottage. We pulled up outside just as the evening had turned dark, to see the thatched beauty of the local pub dripping with twinkling lights and oozing with a wonderfully warm feeling. The moment we walked in we felt cosy and ready to fill our tummies with good, local food. We were sat on the table closest to the glowing open fire, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal with a very comforting Cornish atmosphere.
On our final morning at Barefoot Beach Hut, the sun poured through the windows and landed directly on our feet - a welcoming warmth on a November morning. We couldn’t resist opening the bifold doors to really appreciate the beauty of the undercover garden area and Cornish sky. I can imagine in the summer it would be perfect to slide the bifold doors open, warm up the enormous BBQ and relax in the sunshine on the comfy sun loungers in your own private ‘beach’ garden. But even in November, you can appreciate all the meaningful touches that have been carefully added to this cosy garden. And sandy feet would be very welcome after a trip down to the beach!
The Sunday evening grew near and it was time to pack ourselves up and say goodbye to Barefoot Beach Hut. We took one last tour around the cottage, to soak up all of the beauty and think about the wonderful time that we have had exploring the local area and recharging our batteries after a challenging year. Barefoot Beach Hut certainly reawakens a positive mind and takes you away for a holiday of bliss.
