Sadly though, in contrast to the summer’s idyllically sun-kissed days, the flipside brought raging winter storms and pounding seas that brought havoc to these cherished pools. Constantly requiring upkeep and repairs, most were consequently left to succumb to the elements and were lost to time. But not all. One pool that has made a roaring come back, thanks to the help of unfailingly loyal supporters, is Penzance’s very own Jubilee Pool.

Championed by keen supporters, both local and far-flung, Penzance’s Jubilee Pool has undergone numerous restoration work over the years. Now the centrepiece for a brand new, hugely exciting project, 2018 saw the pool commence its most exciting chapter yet. Ready to welcome visitors once again in summer 2019, Jubilee Pool is set to be the UK’s first geothermally heated pool.
In the wake of an overwhelmingly successful CrowdFunder campaign, the project to turn Jubilee Pool into a geothermal attraction saw a phenomenal £528,680 raised from over 1000 investors worldwide. A roaring start to the project, these funds were then poured into the cost of creating a year-round naturally heated section of the sea pool, a new and improved cafe and plans for heated showers, changing rooms and visitor facilities too.

Transforming the future of Jubilee Pool forever, the work has enabled drilling to take place, tapping into water veins 410 meters underground. Pumping water back to the surface, the water veins will be able to provide enough renewable energy to keep a section of the pool heated at a constant 35°c all day, every day. Yes, 365 days of blissful warmth. Towel, anyone?
