With the standard working week being nonstop phone calls, emails and numbers, the perfect way to unwind at the end of it all is a stay at Meris! Beautifully situated along Newlyn' small fishing harbour front, the views are undeniable and make for the perfect retreat for the weekend.
Once our bags and doggies were offloaded at the property, designated parking was only 2 minutes down the road, with equally stunning views off the cliff edge, overseeing St Michael’s Mount.

The first thing you see walking into this cosy Newlyn property is the dining area, beautifully accented by mood lighting, the colour of which is changeable upon your fancy, facing the TV in the lounge area.
Both areas are clearly designed to make you feel immediately at home, ideal for an intimate getaway for my husband and I. The next thing to greet you as you walk to the rear of the property is the beautifully elegant galley kitchen, with plenty of kitchenware, giving perfect symmetry to the seaside town you find yourself in.
The husband of course went straight to the fridge, which was stocked with the essentials to get us going as well as a Cornish hamper consisting of locally sourced cheeses, breads and treats, a fantastic little welcome to the county. That, along with a fresh bottle of bubbles to get us started! The only thing left to do once settled was of course, hunker down with a tasty cheeseboard and watch a movie on Netflix!
We woke up following one of the most comfortable night’s sleep, prompting us to reconsider our own mattress at home, feeling well rested and ready to start our weekend properly.
Saturday welcomed wet and windy weather; however, this did not stop us hopping into the car and heading over to Long Rock, a beach that's dog friendly all year around, for a brisk beach walk to clear the cobwebs away. Perfectly timed with low tide, the dogs were in their element sprinting down the long stretches of sandy beach whilst we looked in awe at the magnificent St Michael’s Mount. The dogs managed to cease their running and chasing, even if only for a brief photograph on the causeway!
Nothing beats taking in the sights of St Michael’s Mount and the dogs enjoying the free range of this gorgeous dog friendly beach, so we easily spent a couple of hours here, exploring the mount, and walking up and down this magnificent beach with our happy pooches.
Whilst the rain is still at bay, (if you’ll pardon the pun) we thought we’d make the most of it and head over to Mousehole for a wonder and some lunch.
Mousehole village is home to many quaint little shops, winding lanes and a yummy little ice cream parlour, which in warmer weather, would be my first stop on arrival to the harbour! With plenty of dog friendly stops for us and our pooches to explore we decided to head to the Rock Pool Café for lunch, as now we had worked up quite the appetite and needed shelter from the approaching rain.
This unsuspecting little gem, hidden towards the rear of the car park, situated on the approach to Mousehole, was the perfect pit stop for us and the pooches. The main café housed more locally sourced snacks, souvenirs and amazing Welbeck Tiles, whilst the outside area included a cute little cabin as ideal shelter from the elements whilst allowing us to still enjoy the views.
With everything being locally sourced and freshly made, we’d be foolish not to opt for a Mousehole favourite of crab sandwiches, and with hearty portions even for this menu choice, my gannet husband was happy, and I with him.
With the weather really starting in and the dogs dozing off at the table we headed back to the property for a snooze and a movie, the boys were happy to return to the warmth of the property and settle for a couple of hours.
The husband and I decided to seize the opportunity, where the boys were both tucked up in bed, to have a shower in our gorgeous en-suite, with high ceilings and exposed beams, whilst our towels toasted on the wall mounted radiator ready for our exit. It is clear that the whole property is designed for both comfort and warmth, especially for the colder months, which was ideal for this windy weekend in October.
Now all gussied up, we are are ready to treat ourselves to a date night at The Bridge only a short walk or 3-minute drive away. With so many delicious choices on the menu narrowing it down to one tasty option seemed impossible, however we prevailed! Following dinner, whereby we were well and truly stuffed, we headed back to the property to indulge in the cheesecake we had stashed in the fridge the day before. No matter how full, there’s always room for dessert.
A quick cuddle with the dogs and then off to our irresistibly comfortable bed!
Another amazing night sleep, followed by a slow start to this lazy Sunday morning, breakfast was the first thing on all the boys minds! I’m guessing your sensing the theme here.
Following a leisurely breakfast, again cuddled up on the bench together at the dining table watching TV, the next thing on our minds was getting the dogs out to the beach again. We headed over to Long Rock again, this time instead walking along the sand dunes and pebbly side of the beach, again beautifully timed with low tide for optimum sprinting space for the dogs!
This time the walk was short, with the weather being as pants as it was, we decided to keep the walk short and head back towards Penzance with a stop at the Mexico Inn for a drink.
With the atmosphere, location and food being the quality that it was, it was no surprise to hear that this pub is packed most days and nights of the week. That being said we were lucky to find space for both of us and the dogs to boot. This was a lovely little reprieve from the weather before stopping in Penzance for a quick wonder along the harbour and around the town before finally returning once again to the property, for another well deserved snooze!
We took the time whilst the boys were fast asleep, to sit on the 2 love seats by the window and partake in a mixture of people watching and reading of our books, before the daylight soon faded.
As the evening settled in, we seized the opportunity to get the log burner on the go, to make the property (if it was at all possible) even more cosy! We all snuggled up in the lounge with the log burner kicking out heat, all the while struggling not to fall asleep on the sofa.
With the mammoth cheese board from our arrival still not finished we decided to tuck in once again the the mixture of local cheeses that were in the hamper and cheeses we had bought, it was the perfect light dinner following a weekend of gorging in all the local cafes, restaurants and pubs we could find.
Our final night is the property was toasty and warm, cuddled up watching another film on the smart TV with the dogs all tucked up. Meris has been the most fantastic little getaway for the husband and I to de-stress, whilst finding plenty of little gems in the areas surrounding the property. I’m so glad we got to experience this area of Cornwall and this property.
