Set in one of the most coveted spots in Mousehole, this is a stunning Grade II listed cottage that’s been sensitively restored by its owner into a wonderfully authentic Cornish escape with uninterrupted views across the sea towards St Michael’s Mount.
Within its whitewashed walls you’ll find a super cute bijou escape that’s simply but luxuriously decorated, with all those little touches of luxuries you would expect from a Boutique Retreat. It even has its own private parking – a true rarity in Mousehole!
Start your day watching the sun rise over breakfast from your own private sea terrace, in the evening curl up together in front of the wood burning stove then at night watch the lights of the fishermen’s boats from your pillow as you’re lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves - bliss.
Secretly tucked away down a traffic-free path and bordering the sea, it’s an easy meander to all that historic Mousehole offers - art galleries, cafes and restaurants and boat trips to see the seals off St Clement Island. Or simply sit and watch children dangling lines over the quayside trying to catch crabs, or marvel at their local sport; jumping off the high sea wall.
Living
Whether you're staying in the sunny heights of summer or the dramatic depths of winter, Rocksalt is a perfect escape. Step through the door and you'll find an open-plan space with flagstone floor - cooling during summer months or blissfully heated for chillier days - plus a roaring wood burning stove to make things lovely and cosy. A sofa lies opposite the fire, with super soft wool throws, with an additional sumptuous leather arm chair and a cushioned alcove being the perfect spot for gazing out to sea. During warmer months, leave the stable door open to let the healthy ocean breezes drift in, whilst a Sonos sound system can be found for your favourite tunes. There is also a small terrestrial TV.
On the first floor to the back of the cottage you'll find a snug with a custom-made sofa, desk, Sonos speaker and a larger Smart TV for when a film night beckons. Behind the mirrored cupboard you'll find yoga mats and simple exercise equipment, whilst the owner has thoughtfully left a selection of art supplies should you be inspired by the magnificent views. As this is a charming, traditional cottage please bear in mind that the stairs are original and are extremely steep in places.
Eating
The glazed stable back door floods the last rays of the sun into the totally charming compact, bespoke kitchen which has all you could need on the appliance front; dishwasher, microwave, induction hob, retro Gorenje fridge/freezer, Dualit appliances and even a slide and hide Neff oven (just like the GBBO!) not forgetting a picnic basket and blankets. A wine rack is conveniently positioned next to the dining table and there is a floor to ceiling pull out larder for your food. This small but well designed kitchen has slate worktops for prep work, whilst the owner has added some of her collection of iconic vintage blue and white Cornishware and Rocksalt named mugs. Of course, a Nespresso machine finishes off this bijou but practical space.
Situated in front of the kitchen is the perfectly placed dining area with recycled Elm table on an iron base originally from the Newquay Arms, plus an antique machinist lamp over that creates a unique ambiance for cosy suppers. In the daytime you can sit and dream at the table gazing out to sea as you linger over your morning cuppa.
Sleeping
There are two fabulous bedrooms to choose from. At the top of the house lies the master bedroom, an exquisite space with vaulted ceiling and a dormer window offering breath-taking sea views. You will see why we call it the Crow's Nest; it looks far out to sea! The low-lying double bed, set under the eaves, is oh-so-romantic and feels like you are sleeping on a boat. This room also boasts its own cute Tubby Tub soaking bath, a blissful spot to wash away the worries of everyday life whilst sea-gazing. Clustered nearby is a gorgeous, vintage Lloyd Loom chair and footstool - the perfect spot for reading and watching the great sea beyond. Other luxurious touches include a Sonos speaker, your own Nespresso coffee machine and a silent fridge so you can rustle up a chilled Mimosa or two in the mornings.
On the first floor there's a second bedroom which can be set up either as twin beds or a super king bed. Also boasting wonderful sea views from the window seat, this lovely room is stunning in its simplicity; elm wood floors, whitewashed walls and cool white linens are finished off beautifully with a huge mirror, built in wardrobe and drawers, super soft baby alpaca throws, vintage photos and bulkhead lights - bliss!
Bathing
On the first floor, you'll find the wonderful shower room with walk-in rainfall shower, underfloor heating and heated towel rail to keep things toasty warm. In the top floor bedroom there's the super-romantic slipper bath, sink and heated towel rail, whilst there's a sink in the snug and a downstairs loo/sink behind the kitchen.
Outside Space
To the front of Rocksalt lies your east-facing sea terrace garden. With the waves lapping just below, this is as close to the sea as you can get! On sunny mornings, watch the sun rise over coffee and enjoy breakfast sat at the fabulously French table and chairs, whilst in the evenings witness the twilight descend with a glass or two of something special – watch the stars come to life over the sea, St Clement’s Isle and St Michael’s Mount beyond. If you’re lucky, you might even see the bay’s resident pod of dolphins!
Parking
Extremely rare for Mousehole, Rocksalt comes with its own private parking space, just a short walk from the cottage. It is in a private off-road car park and is suitable for a large car.
