Meaning 'gem of the sea', Ula surely lives up to its name. With nothing in front of it except dreamy panoramic sea views, this is the most divine seaside home stay in a wonderfully sheltered clifftop spot, made even more desirable by being nestled in the quieter part of Porthleven, a fabulous coastal village and foodie hotspot in West Cornwall. Gloriously unabashed in shades of white, this beautifully chic Scandi-inspired coastal retreat has floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the sea, deeply romantic interiors and a private sun deck, making it the ultimate escape for lovers. It's dog friendly too, meaning your four-legged friend is most welcome too.

If you can bear to leave Ula, it's also the perfect base from which to explore the wild west, from the Lizard Peninsula to Land's End, around to St Ives and beyond - the choice is yours!

Living and eating

Offering open plan living at its best, Ula has the most divine space for relaxing, cooking and eating.

To the back of Ula lies the kitchen, beautiful in its paired-back simplicity, complete with everything you'll need to rustle up feasts for you and your loved one, maybe sampling the catch of the day brought from the fishmongers in the village. We just love the retro fridge, sleek white worktops, island with oven, hob and breakfast bar, plus all the other essentials including the all-important coffee machine. In addition, there's a washer dryer.

In front of the kitchen is the gorgeous dining area with dual-aspect windows, meaning there's glorious sea views wherever you're sat. To the front, the bi-fold doors means they can be opened in warmer weather to let the blissful sea breeze through whilst you eat.

The picture-perfect sitting room is exquisite in its sea-inspired palette of whites and natural tones. The large L-shaped sofa is just made for sprawling out on whilst gazing out to sea, whilst the cosy wood burner, accessible from both the sitting and dining areas, offer cosy heat during cooler months. If you can bear to tear your eyes away from the view, there's a Smart TV with Amazon and Netflix plus a DVD player. If you'd like a soundtrack to your holiday, there's a SONOS speaker with Alexa for your favourite tunes, whilst a gorgeous vinyl record player, records, an instant camera (with your own roll of film!) are a must for retro lovers.

Sleeping

If falling asleep to the sounds of the sea sounds like a total dream, look no further than Ula for your ultimate night-time dwelling. With floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a door leading directly out on to the deck, you've a cinematic view of the ocean from morning to night. On summer nights, leave the door open and fall asleep to the rhythm of the waves below. In the morning, awake to the sun rising over the sea from the comfort of your king-size bed. During cooler months, there's nothing more romantic than watching the drama of the weather change in an instant, whilst being as snug as a bug under the duvet.

In addition, there's a dressing room where you can store bags and hang clothes, leaving your boudoir a clutter-free zone where you can totally relax.

Bathing

The fabulous bathroom has a rainfall shower and bath, so just perfect whether you're washing away the heat and sand of the day or wanting a long, decadent soak.

Outdoor space

Ula has two gorgeous sun-soaked decks overlooking the sea, the upper being wooden with steps leading down to the lower paved terrace. On the upper deck there's a table and chairs where you can enjoy meals à deux, whilst on the lower terrace you can take a cat nap on the two sun loungers or lounge chairs. From the lower deck, steps lead down into the cliff top garden where the fire pit is a must for making s'mores at night and for watching the stars twinkle above from the Adirondeck chairs. Bliss!

Please note due to its gorgeously wild location, the furniture on the lower terrace will be removed between October and March.

Parking

There is private parking for one car on the driveway.

Babies and children

Ula welcomes babes in arms. A travel cot and highchair are available on request.

Dogs

One medium dog or two small dogs are very welcome. Please contact the office to request a second dog. Please note that the garden is not completely enclosed and runs down to the cliff edge. However the upper wooden deck has a gate so dogs can be safely let out on the wooden deck, but they would need to be supervised elsewhere. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

WiFi

Ula has WiFi so if you need to stay in touch with the outside world you can.

Just wow! Porthleven is that perfect combination of coastal paradise and buzzing village life. From its iconic harbour, pier and beach to its astonishing selection of fabulous places to eat, including The Harbourside Refuge by Michael Caines, Kota Kai, The Square and Go Nauti, it's the ideal base from which to explore the far west of Cornwall. Step out of your door and you're pretty much on the South West Coastal Path. Head east and it's an easy clifftop walk to Loe Bar and National Trust's Penrose Estate where tree-lined paths circumnavigate Cornwall's largest natural lake, Loe Pool. Head west and the path is trickier but beautiful as you head towards Rinsey. Pop in the car and it's a short drive to Praa Sands (or approximately a five mile walk for the more adventurous), a blissfully long beach of golden sands. Head further west and you'll discover Marazion and St Michael's Mount, the historic town of Penzance, fishing hotspot Newlyn and oh-so-pretty Mousehole. Drive towards Land's End and stop at Sennen Cove, a wonderful village with a fabulous beach, much loved by surfers. Of course, the Minack Theatre at nearby Porthcurno is a must too. It's also just a short drive to St Ives on the north coast, whilst the Lizard is a stunning AONB and boasts fabulous beaches and walks.

Luxury meets peaceful escapism at our chic coastal retreat for two, from the unadulterated sea views to the beautifully sleek interiors...

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Ula:

Great views, great location.

Beautiful location and property with unbelievable views. Would highly recommend a stay!

Our second visit and so glad that we broke our rule about not repeating holidays. I could listen to the sea all day long. A wonderful home and incredibly conducive to resting and rebuilding the soul.

Our second stay at Ula and it did not disappoint the views are stunning

Perfect place to reset the battery- perfect location for making trips

We loved every aspect of this gorgeous place. The sound of the waves as background soundtrack for our stay was simply heaven. We were not very lucky with the weather but that meant we were out and about exploring the area, going on wonderful hikes and indulging in the delicious Cornish fare.

We had the most wonderful time. The retreat is stunning - immaculate, a beautiful location and the attention to detail is superb. We had everything we needed and more and the welcome pack was generous and delicious. The location is peaceful, with just the sound of the waves. The coastal path is on the doorstep and the beach within easy reach. I would highly recommend and we will definitely return. A weekend was not long enough . Thank you very much for a wonderful stay.

Lovely, relaxing place to stay to watch the changing moods of the sea.

Perfection. Exceeded all expectations, with every need catered for.

Ula in an excellent position with many lovely walks nearby and an excellent view.

Amazing retreat, beautiful view, attention to detail second to none. Everything was absolutely perfect.

Ula was an amazing cottage. Beautifully decorated, well kitted out and a fantastic location. Would definitely go again.

What a heavenly place - whats not to like?! Simply beautiful in every way. We chilled and enjoyed every moment - thank you. We hope to come back, although our week will be difficult to compete with as we had such lovely weather. Everyday sunshine, clear blue skies and sea. Perfect in every way.

Ula is one of the nicest Cornwall properties we have stayed in - so much space and private coastal viewing for 2 people. We read the 'getting there' instructions so knew what to do with parking. The location is great, just on the SW coastal path and after checking tide times we were able to go for a shortish walk to Loe Bar along the path and then walk back along the beach to Porthleven.

Wow, what a lovely break. Absolutely love everything about this gorgeous place. Every detail thought of, feels like home with the best view in the world. Love, love, loved every minute!

spectacular views and a great location. house perfect size for 2 and well laid out.

We stayed at Ula in Dec 2019 and wondered whether 4 years later it would be as good as we remembered it. And thankfully it was! Such a beautifully equipped, delightful place to stay. The location is amazing, overlooking the ocean and Porthleven is a lovely village with great walking, good restaurants and friendly locals.

The house is beautiful, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Ula is our "happy place". We adore every aspect of it.

Beautiful romantic retreat.

Beautiful location, very appreciative of the welcome basket and the property itself was stylish and gorgeously appointed. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept so well being lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves. A really lovely stay.

Arrived in sunshine and left in sunshine! A lovely spot for a very relaxing stay.

This is the perfect location for a very private chilled stay. Stunning property and stunning location. Literally on the South West Coast Path. Due to the magical feel of this property we only did half of what we had planned in our week as once you had your nose tucked into a book listening to the waves breaking (literally 20m away) why would you leave. Porthleven harbour / town is only a 10/15 minute pleasant walk and is great for food and drink and anything you might need. Would definitely book again. Andrew & Jacqui Bassett

Wow! What can we say - we had the most magical stay here and absolutely loved it - all batteries now recharged. Storm Agnes visited whilst we were here and we felt so cosy. Thank you for the best time, we will be back!

A beautiful cottage and perfect location, just a short walk to the harbour and all the wonderful local venues. Everything was exactly as pictured and did not disappoint! Our little black lab loved the views as much as we did. Thank you for a lovely experience.

This is a stunning property with far reaching views of the sea. A tranquil retreat that would be hard to beat.

Just a fabulous retreat in a gorgeous location!

It was perfect.

Absolutely stunning views of the sea from both living room and bedroom. So calming to fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Immaculate house with a lovely calm interior and full of thoughtful touches that make it special. Loved the welcome basket of goodies! Easy access to amazing coastal walks and a short walk into Porthleven where you are spoilt for choice with places to eat, chill and watch the world go by.

Just perfect , met all expectations.

Relaxation is guaranteed from the moment you open the door into this wonderful retreat. Ula is in a perfect location to enjoy lovely walks on the doorstep and there are lots of great places to eat and drink in Porthleven which is an easy 15 minute stroll. However be warned it is very difficult to drag oneself away from the accommodation and the view!

A truly marvellous holiday with very special accommodation. It was superb - we loved it. The attention to detail was just out of this world and the welcome basket of goodies was so delicious.

Amazing location matched by cottage. Luxurious without being fussy. Had plans to visit other places that were quickly abandoned as this was perfect place to stay. Great walks and places to eat all within walking distance.

Fantastic stay, unbeatable location. Highly recommended.

By far the best retreat we have stayed in, the location was just perfect, walking distance to the national trust Penrose estate, beaches & lake & also the town & harbour. Comfortable , beautifully furnished retreat, Just fabulous!

Ula was just delightful. Everything was perfect. Nothing else to say!

Fabulous property and location.

Beautiful. Serene. Precious.

Just gorgeous

What a stunning holiday home. A fantastic retreat with so many thoughtful touches. The views are so amazing and we have spent hours just watching the waves. Just what we needed, tucked away from it all and walks galore on the doorstep for us and Bailey.

Thank you so much for a truly wonderful and relaxing Christmas stay. Storms, waves, walks, great food, and wine really helped us switch off. The Ship Inn, Mussel Shoal, Kota - all lovely places. We will really miss the sounds and the views.

Thank you so much again for allowing us to stay at the beautiful Ula.

Simply paradise whatever the weather!

We have found a little slice of heaven! A truly wonderful winter tretreat and babymoon. The views no matter the weather are stunning. We will miss the sunrises, sunsets, and soothing sound of the waves. Gannets diving in the distance, Cornish choughs, swooping by and even a seal one morning! There are wonderful walks around Penrose, Loe Pool, The Lizard and Kynance Cove. Some lovely food in Porthleven is stunning. We cannot wait to come back!

Fantastic location and property = perfect to escape to

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful little cottage , the views were just outstanding and we could not have asked for a more relaxing stay!

Thank you for such a lovely break. Ula is truly magical. We cannot wait to return.

What a lovely elegant retreat! Perfect for a late autumn break. We loved the walks to the southeast, a walk to Loe Bar is a must. As countless before us have said, Porthleven never disappoints delicious dinners at Kota, The Square, and a morning walk along the coast for a hearty breakfast at Nauti but Nice. The record player and Fuji instamatic camera are a lovely touch and tonic for the soul. Thank you for the happy memories.

The most perfect spot. Glorious views out to sea, beautiful interior, completely private, yet a short walk in to Porthleven. We hope to return soon.

We keep coming back to this special place, this was visit number six and as always it didnt disappoint. Spent many an hour just watching the waves as its hard to drag oneself away. Porthleven has lovely places to eat as mentioned by previous guests. Rinsey Cove is worth a visit at low tide although maybe not if its been wet as the way onto the beach would be slippy. The coast path is stunning leading back to Porthleven. Minack Theatre is 45 minutes away and well worth a visit. Already counting the days until our next visit.

Ula is a truly magical place. We had an incredible week. The view, in all weather is awe and inspiring and we loved looking at the stars from the firepit and bed. The location on the South West Coastal Path and a short walk into town cannot be beaten. The Square and Kota Kai are also very good. Mussel Shoal is our favourite though! If you fancy a night in, the fish at Quayside is super fresh. We cannot wait to return to this magical spot.

we had a fantastic holiday thanks to Ula's perfect location. It was a lovely little place with everything we needed and all the convenience of being a short walk into a village with so many great places to eat and drink. Unusually for us, we barely used the car to go anywhere else - as there really wasn't the need with all the coastal walks too. Like I say absolutely perfect!

This property certainly does not disappoint… we have stayed in many different properties in Cornwall and Ula is a place I would recommend to everyone! Amazing views! Exceptionally presented and loved the decor and natural lighting. So good having cliff walks on your doorstep and walking distance to Porthleven town. Loved having the different seating areas outside especially when we had temperatures of 33-34 degrees! ?? I was so glad that this property is dog friendly - good to see properties accommodating dog owners. This accommodation was a dream to stay at and wake up to the coastal views- would definitely go back! Thanks again

Beautiful property with amazing sea views. We really enjoyed our weekend here and would love to go back. The decor is perfect, and extra touches like the sun beds and fire pit outside make the most of the stunning views.

Every little detail has been considered in the stunning house. We can’t wait to come back.

Ula is stunning, every bit as good as the photos. The location is fabulous, within 15 minute walk to Porthleven with great bars and restaurants, do not miss the Mussel Shoal or Kota both fantastic....

We arrived to a very generous welcome pack and were so comfortable with our surroundings, this really is an exceptional property. We were blessed with great weather, had wonderful walks from the doorstep and only used the car once in the week we were there to visit St Michael's Mount. The outside space at Ula is great, wonderful terrace with the best view, (we even saw a seal cruising by) wonderful sun loungers and a fire pit, all spread over three levels....

If you're thinking about booking this, don't think for too long or it'll be gone! We absolutely loved it.

Great location overlooking the sea. Wonderful and relaxing.

Tranquil escape in Scandi luxury, we felt like it was just us watching the sea, nature and weather.

Ula is an absolutely stunning retreat. Just on the outskirts of the bustling Porthleven, within walking distance to the beach and the beautiful south coast path, the location is ideal. Everything you could want is provided within the chalet along with lots of special touches. The outside space is stunning in winter so I can only imagine how great it is when the sun is shining. Already planning a return visit.

The views are stunning and to fall asleep to crashing waves is just perfect.

If you like stunning views and to be at one with nature, this is your bolthole . Truly amazing .

Watching the sea through the picture windows while sitting by a log fire with a drink in had was fabulous.

Absolutely blown away by this place.

A perfect retreat in beautiful Porthleven. You actually feel like you’re in the sea and if you’re lucky enough to be able to open the doors, the sound of the sea is just magical.

We had the most relaxing mini-moon and have found our place to celebrate every anniversary now!

Thank you

What a view. Amazing place.

Nothing as it is well presented and a great place to relax Already told my friends

It was absolutely beautiful. The extra little touches like welcome pack, White Company products, camera,….. such all lovely treats. This is a real true hidden gem in a beautiful location. Thank you for the memories.

Had a fantastic week in this beautiful property which was certainly enhanced by the perfect weather!

The owner has created a little piece of heaven where you cannot fail to relax from the moment you step inside. The sound of the sea and star gazing whilst lying in bed or outside by the fire pit are one of many, many plus points to this amazing property. A very special place that we never tire of visiting.

Generally Excellent!
