Bedroom details
1 Bedroom (Sleeps 2 + cot)
Meaning 'gem of the sea', Ula surely lives up to its name. With nothing in front of it except dreamy panoramic sea views, this is the most divine seaside home stay in a wonderfully sheltered clifftop spot, made even more desirable by being nestled in the quieter part of Porthleven, a fabulous coastal village and foodie hotspot in West Cornwall. Gloriously unabashed in shades of white, this beautifully chic Scandi-inspired coastal retreat has floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the sea, deeply romantic interiors and a private sun deck, making it the ultimate escape for lovers. It's dog friendly too, meaning your four-legged friend is most welcome too.
If you can bear to leave Ula, it's also the perfect base from which to explore the wild west, from the Lizard Peninsula to Land's End, around to St Ives and beyond - the choice is yours!
Living and eating
Offering open plan living at its best, Ula has the most divine space for relaxing, cooking and eating.
To the back of Ula lies the kitchen, beautiful in its paired-back simplicity, complete with everything you'll need to rustle up feasts for you and your loved one, maybe sampling the catch of the day brought from the fishmongers in the village. We just love the retro fridge, sleek white worktops, island with oven, hob and breakfast bar, plus all the other essentials including the all-important coffee machine. In addition, there's a washer dryer.
In front of the kitchen is the gorgeous dining area with dual-aspect windows, meaning there's glorious sea views wherever you're sat. To the front, the bi-fold doors means they can be opened in warmer weather to let the blissful sea breeze through whilst you eat.
The picture-perfect sitting room is exquisite in its sea-inspired palette of whites and natural tones. The large L-shaped sofa is just made for sprawling out on whilst gazing out to sea, whilst the cosy wood burner, accessible from both the sitting and dining areas, offer cosy heat during cooler months. If you can bear to tear your eyes away from the view, there's a Smart TV with Amazon and Netflix plus a DVD player. If you'd like a soundtrack to your holiday, there's a SONOS speaker with Alexa for your favourite tunes, whilst a gorgeous vinyl record player, records, an instant camera (with your own roll of film!) are a must for retro lovers.
Sleeping
If falling asleep to the sounds of the sea sounds like a total dream, look no further than Ula for your ultimate night-time dwelling. With floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a door leading directly out on to the deck, you've a cinematic view of the ocean from morning to night. On summer nights, leave the door open and fall asleep to the rhythm of the waves below. In the morning, awake to the sun rising over the sea from the comfort of your king-size bed. During cooler months, there's nothing more romantic than watching the drama of the weather change in an instant, whilst being as snug as a bug under the duvet.
In addition, there's a dressing room where you can store bags and hang clothes, leaving your boudoir a clutter-free zone where you can totally relax.
Bathing
The fabulous bathroom has a rainfall shower and bath, so just perfect whether you're washing away the heat and sand of the day or wanting a long, decadent soak.
Outdoor space
Ula has two gorgeous sun-soaked decks overlooking the sea, the upper being wooden with steps leading down to the lower paved terrace. On the upper deck there's a table and chairs where you can enjoy meals à deux, whilst on the lower terrace you can take a cat nap on the two sun loungers or lounge chairs. From the lower deck, steps lead down into the cliff top garden where the fire pit is a must for making s'mores at night and for watching the stars twinkle above from the Adirondeck chairs. Bliss!
Please note due to its gorgeously wild location, the furniture on the lower terrace will be removed between October and March.
Parking
There is private parking for one car on the driveway.
Babies and children
Ula welcomes babes in arms. A travel cot and highchair are available on request.
Dogs
One medium dog or two small dogs are very welcome. Please contact the office to request a second dog. Please note that the garden is not completely enclosed and runs down to the cliff edge. However the upper wooden deck has a gate so dogs can be safely let out on the wooden deck, but they would need to be supervised elsewhere. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.
WiFi
Ula has WiFi so if you need to stay in touch with the outside world you can.
In the Area
Just wow! Porthleven is that perfect combination of coastal paradise and buzzing village life. From its iconic harbour, pier and beach to its astonishing selection of fabulous places to eat, including The Harbourside Refuge by Michael Caines, Kota Kai, The Square and Go Nauti, it's the ideal base from which to explore the far west of Cornwall. Step out of your door and you're pretty much on the South West Coastal Path. Head east and it's an easy clifftop walk to Loe Bar and National Trust's Penrose Estate where tree-lined paths circumnavigate Cornwall's largest natural lake, Loe Pool. Head west and the path is trickier but beautiful as you head towards Rinsey. Pop in the car and it's a short drive to Praa Sands (or approximately a five mile walk for the more adventurous), a blissfully long beach of golden sands. Head further west and you'll discover Marazion and St Michael's Mount, the historic town of Penzance, fishing hotspot Newlyn and oh-so-pretty Mousehole. Drive towards Land's End and stop at Sennen Cove, a wonderful village with a fabulous beach, much loved by surfers. Of course, the Minack Theatre at nearby Porthcurno is a must too. It's also just a short drive to St Ives on the north coast, whilst the Lizard is a stunning AONB and boasts fabulous beaches and walks.
