This delightful Cornish cottage, nestled on the confluence of two tidal rivers, is an exquisite getaway for couples or single travellers.

A Grade II listed cottage, Driftwood has been lovingly restored offering a stunning waterside escape. With exceptional creek views, a gorgeously romantic bedroom and a delightful sitting room, this retreat also has a wonderful front terrace from which to spend a happy hour or two. It's also dog friendly, meaning your four-legged friend can enjoy a holiday too!

Set close to Truro and the gateway to the Roseland Peninsula, Driftwood is perfectly situated to explore the delights of the sub-tropical south Cornish coast, with its exquisite gardens, protected coves, coastal villages and sandy beaches.

Setting

Next door to Driftwood you will find Blythe Cottage, set ideally beside one another to cater for larger parties when booked together, whilst offering perfect privacy when the retreats are booked separately. You can view Blythe Cottage here or call us for more information.

Living

Step through the stable door and you'll find yourself in the charming sitting room, complete with exposed inglenook fireplace and beamed ceiling, befitting a Grade II listed cottage. Housing a flickering wood burner, this welcoming heart of the home has a large sofa set in front of it - perfect for curling up together or relaxing with a good book. With a picturesque window seat with exquisite creek views, there's an extra spot for sitting and gazing over the water. There's underfloor heating to make things extra cosy, whilst there's also a Smart TV with Sky and a SONOS sound system for entertainment, as well as a selection of good old fashioned board games.

As this is a traditional and charming cottage with period features, please bear in mind that the ceilings are quirky and low in places. Please also be mindful when climbing the stairs, as they are quite steep in line with the characterful features of Blythe Cottage.

Eating

The fabulous country style kitchen with semi-vaulted ceiling and exposed stone wall is just lovely, and practical too being fully equipped with everything you'll need to rustle up meals and snacks. There's an electric double oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washing machine plus all the essentials including a cafetiere for that all-important morning coffee. Alternatively, head down to the farm shop in the marina for fresh coffee and a pastry, where you can also buy all your essentials without having to leave the village.

In the sitting room, there's a fabulous dining table for two, close to the wood burner and the perfect setting for romantic meals.

Sleeping

Driftwood's bedroom is a gorgeously romantic escape to retreat to at the end of the day. With neutral, calming tones throughout and a blissfully comfy king size bed swathed in sumptuous bedding, falling asleep is as easy as pie, and with glorious views over the creek from bed, long lie ins and breakfast in bed are a must. There's plenty of hanging and storage space in the recessed cupboard, plus two bedside tables for personal belongings and a table that works as both a dressing table or a writing desk too (if you can keep your eyes off the view!).

Bathing

There's a wonderful shower room with huge walk-in shower with rainfall head, plus there's a heated rail to ensure towels are kept warm and fluffy and underfloor heating to keep toes toasty. There's also a separate loo.

Outdoor space

To the front of Driftwood lies a pretty terrace that makes the most of the stunning views over the creek. Facing south, it's well protected from the prevailing wind, making it a sheltered, sunny spot in which to relax, enjoying direct sunshine until later afternoon. There's a table and chairs for four people, and a Weber kettle barbeque for meals alfresco.

Parking

There is on road parking in the village, which is available on a first-come first-served basis and due to the popularity of the village it is therefore not always possible to park right outside the cottage.

Babies

Driftwood welcomes babes in arms. Please bring your own equipment with you. The cottage is accessed up a flight of stone steps directly from the road, making this retreat not suitable for toddlers.

Dogs

One dog is very welcome at Driftwood. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

Larger parties

If you're considering travelling with friends or family, Driftwood lies next to Blythe Cottage, our equally gorgeous cottage that sleeps two.

In the Area

Beautifully positioned on the south Cornish coast in the pretty village of Malpas, Driftwood is perfectly situated from which to explore the best of Cornwall.

From the cottage, it's an easy stroll to the marina, where you can hop on board the passenger ferry (which runs April to September) and visit Trellisick Gardens, the vibrant seaside town of Falmouth and pretty St Mawes without stepping in your car. For the more adventurous, you can hire kayaks and go explore the river by yourself! Make sure to visit The Heron Inn, literally on your doorstep and a beautiful riverside pub with stunning views over the estuary.

Pop in the car and head off to explore the best of the west - the Roseland Peninsular is just glorious with spectacular coastline and pretty villages such as Portscatho and Portloe. For something a little different, go to nearby Philleigh Way Cookery School and take a course on seafood or Cornish fair. Head further south and explore the Lizard, the UK's most southerly point and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with stunning beaches such as Kynance Cove and Coverack. Explore the far West to find St Michael's Mount, the Minack Theatre and St Ives, hop to the north coast for St Agnes and the Heritage Coast or head east for The Eden Project and The Lost Garden of Heligan - the choice is yours!

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Driftwood:

Second stay with the.company high standards maintained, contacted owners before we went, they were very helpful and responded almost immediately, lovely treats and essentials on arrival

The cottage and its location are close to perfection, truly idyllic.

Driftwood is a beautiful cosy cottage with the most spectacular views of the Truro river. We enjoyed cosy evenings by the fire and watched the sunrise over the boats from our bed each morning with a cup of tea. The cottage has everything you need for a romantic stay. We stayed here 5 years ago and there's a new bathroom and updated decor since then which make a huge improvement on an already lovely cottage. In particular we found the shower to be excellent, spacious and great water pressure, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We'll definitely be back in future.

Driftwood is a very special property in such a tranquil location.

Gorgeous cottage in a fantastic location. The views from the terrace and windows was outstanding. The owners, Andrew and Frances were on hand for anything that needed answering and were very welcoming. Thankyou for letting us stay in your lovely cottage.

The views from this cottage are awesome.

Great stay at a lovely cottage in malpas. Do try the heron inn where the food and atmosphere were excellent

The cottage was comfy and cozy. The view of the river was gorgeous.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. That about sums it up!

This cottage exceeds expectations in terms of location. Inside its comfortable and cosy. It's an amazing spot to unwind and take in the views. The local pub is super and dog friendly. The walks from the cottage are delightful. Would recommend this spot to all my friends

Beautiful cottage, well equipped and decorated, lovely peaceful location, would throughly recommend for relaxing stay.

Driftwood is a charming cottage in a delightful location. Sitting in bed drinking tea in the morning, whilst gazing out over the amazing estuary view is very special.

The cottage is beautiful and very well equipped. We had a very happy and comfortable stay. The absolutely best thing about the cottage is the view - so amazing to wake up to that every morning and to see the river at different times of day and states of tide. Beautiful!

Lovely cottage with great views. Very well maintained. Well supplied kitchen. Hamper was a lovely addition.

A wonderful stay. In a fantastic location. We had a really successful business trip with a delightful stay. Thank you

A lovely, romantic compact and bijou cottage with sunrise views overlooking the creek and a pub merely a few yards away. The wood burner was a welcome treat on a cool evening, which kept us cosy and warm before retiring to the rustic but elegant bedroom above... would recommend to friends looking for a weekend break for walking or sight seeing in the local area.
