For those seeking a peaceful, chilled out coastal escape, look no further than this gorgeous seaside retreat. Tucked away on the cliffs in Whitsand Bay, Esperance is a stunning homestay for couples or single people, seeking uninterrupted sea views in total luxury. 'Esperance' is named after the town in Western Australia, home to beautiful Cape Le Grand National Park which has some of the bluest, clearest water with kangaroos hopping on the beach and pure untouched natural beauty. Step inside and you'll find stunning open-plan living that brings the outside in with floor-to-ceiling glass doors, and where comfort is the name of the game with sumptuous furnishings throughout. Outside, a bubbling hot tub and sun-drenched deck offers exceptional outside living, and it's dog friendly too! Should you be able to pull yourself away from this seaside escape, there's plenty to see and do, whether it's sampling the finest seafood restaurants, hiking the South West Coastal Path or exploring the picturesque villages that line the south coast.

Living and eating

Esperance has a stunning open plan living area with kitchen, perfect for this coastal escape for two. Taking inspiration from an Australian beach house, the room is dominated by the huge patio doors that offer 180-degree vista of the coast, sometimes seeing as far as the Lizard Point on a clear day. The super-comfy sofa is the perfect spot for sprawling on, whether it's escaping the heat of the day during summer with the doors wide open or hunkered up watching the spectacular ever-changing weather in winter with the flickering wood burner making things extra cosy. Two warm woollen blankets for outdoor use are provided for Star Gazing evenings.

The kitchen lies to the back of the room and comes complete with everything you might possibly need to rustle up feasts for your loved one. There's an electric oven and hob, Smeg fridge freezer, dishwasher and all the other equipment you might expect. To the front of the kitchen, you'll find the dining table and chairs, where oh-so-romantic meals are accompanied by the ever-present views, making memories you'll never forget.

In addition, a washing machine is kept in a cupboard outside next to the shed.

Sleeping and bathing

The bedroom is just a dream to escape to at the end of the day, where a blissful king size bed, enveloped in soft linens, bedding, cushions and throws ensure you'll drift off into the deepest of sleeps. In the morning, take your time and bask in the stunning sea views from the French windows, which can be opened during warmer months to let the fresh sea air gently wake you up. What could be better than breakfast in bed, watching the sun glisten on the sea and seagulls wheeling in the sky above? You'll also find a divine bathtub for two in the bedroom, where leisurely, bubbly ablutions can be taken à deux or blissfully alone with a good book.

Leading off from the bedroom is a beautiful en suite shower room with walk in shower with rose head, plus a beautiful stone wash basin on a bespoke cabinet. In addition, there's a heated rail to keep towels warm and fluffy.

Outdoor space

Just wow! To the front of Esperance lies a gorgeously sun-soaked deck, complete with loungers, a dining table and chairs for alfresco meals and of course the bubbling cedar wood hot tub. With that view, you'll never want to leave, whether its lazing on the loungers, lingering over breakfast watching the sun rise or relaxing in the hot tub, watching twilight turning to inky night and the stars appearing one by one.

There is one allocated parking space for you that comes with a parking permit between the months of April and September. This will be left at the property for you. Outside of these months, parking is possible on the road.

Please note that Esperance is approximately a five minute walk from the parking area and the path to the retreat has steps so it may not suit guests with mobility issues. If you have any queries about the access, please get in touch with the office.

Adults only

Esperance is one of our adults-only retreats.

One dog is very welcome at Esperance. We charge £35 per dog per week or short break. Please note, the garden is not enclosed.

Esperance has WiFi so if you need to stay in touch with the outside world you can.

In the Area

If you can drag yourself away from your seaside sojourn, there's plenty of things to see and do in this hidden corner of Cornwall. Boasting fantastic, unspoilt beaches, Whitsand Bay and Freathy are often overlooked and not so well known by visitors, so is it a perfect, peaceful spot. For places to eat, The Clifftop Café is only a 2 - 3-minute walk away whilst The View Restaurant (specialising in seafood) is a fabulous spot just a 5-minute walk away. Pop in the car (or get a taxi) to The Carew Arms in Antony village - a gastro pub with a café and farm shop, or The Devonport Inn in Kingsand. Take the passenger ferry at Cremyll to Royal William Yard where you'll find lots of restaurants and shops. Take time out to explore the nearby seaside villages of Kingsand, Cawsand, Looe and Polperro. Of course, the South West Coastal Path is on your doorstep too so is perfect for walking.

180-degree sea views and a chic Australian beach vibe awaits at this stunning cliffside escape, complete with hot tub and flickering wood burner. Esperance is a dream escape whatever time of year - plus it's dog friendly too.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Esperance:

Wow! The perfect staycation - amazing interior, amenities and the most breathtaking views. We didn’t want to leave and will hurry back! Thank you Boutique Retreats.

Beautiful property, with well laid out interior. Ideal place to relax and unwind, either just watching the ever changing sea and weather, or enjoying the facilities - great hot tub, beautiful bath and cosy log burner

Stunning sea view and wonderful sandy Cornish beach a short walk below. A great place to feel in tune with nature even on one of the harshest storms of the year!!

It was a beautiful chalet with a wonderful view of the sea. It was beautifully decorated and had everything you would need.

Perfect! Could not recommend enough

My husband and I absolutely loved this retreat especially to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary and his birthday which made it even more special. Everything from the location down to the decor was spot on and made us feel like we where abroad which was a lovely touch considering the last few years everyone’s had with the pandemic. We were even luckily enough to have some lovely weather so we could also enjoy the magnificent view! When we arrived there was a bottle of champagne, chocolates, bread, butter, milk and Brie left for us which was a lovely touch and very much enjoyed! The hot tub was also a wonderful touch to the place which we used everyday! The retreat came fully equipped with everything you would need, which means apart from doing some shopping you could stay there all week without leaving and just enjoy that view! There are also some local pubs and restaurants near by which were fab, definitely recommend the Finnygook Inn and The Bay restaurant & bar where we had fabulous service and food! Would highly recommend this retreat to friends and family and most definitely be back ourselves in the near future! Thank you so much for such a memorable holiday!

A gorgeous chalet with incredible views on a sunny day. The walk down is steep but you’re again able to stop and take in the amazing setting and in September the path was full of butterflies which was just magical. The chalet was well equipped and beautifully decorated and all the extra touches such as several perfect spots to sit outside or sunbath which made you feel like on a sunny day you could be in Greece.

On a side note make sure to read your welcome pack before arrival, we found the chalet quite easily despite arriving in the dark and rain but only due to the instructions so it worth having it downloaded/printed pre-arrival due to signal.

Stunning, private and peaceful location with fabulous views - perfect for a relaxing break. The property is very comfortable and stylish, with everything you need as well as some homely touches. Highly recommended!

A wonderful house, in a fantastic location. Enjoy the sun set daily.

Esperance is a little slice of heaven with the most amazing views. It's impossible not to relax from the moment you arrive!

Lovely place and great location

So very relaxing and peaceful. Great views and super comfy bed. Slept very well

Beautiful in all weather - airy and cosy at the same time. Sitting in the cabin watching the ever-changing sea scape is magnificent, add to that a wood burning stove when it’s stormy! Bliss. The cedar hot tub is a must after a cold swim! We loved it.

Everything was exceptional, from the location, to the decor to the ease of booking. We were so surprised at how well equipped the kitchen was. We had everything we needed and had the most perfect stay. We have been recommending it to all our friends!
