Living

Cosy, warm and welcoming, the sitting room is just perfect with a lovely fireplace complete with an electric, fire-effect wood burner for cooler days. The large, plush cream sofa and accompanying chair welcome you to relax and unwind, whilst the picturesque window seat is made for gazing out of or catching up with a good book. We just love the rare plank and muntin dark wooden screen, tastefully chosen antiques and wooden furniture that effortlessly complete the room.

Eating

The country kitchen is great for rustling up meals - make sure to make the most of the amazing local produce! Sage green cupboards contain everything you need to create culinary masterpieces- from baking a cake to a casserole - whilst coffee aficionados will love the Nespresso coffee machine. In addition, there's a lovely Belfast sink, large double oven with ceramic hob and all the other facilities you'd expect as well as a cute table, chairs and bench made for breakfasting and casual dining.

The cosy dining room is behind the plank and muntin screen and has a lovely round dining table which comfortably seats four - an ideal spot for decadent dinners.

Sleeping

There are two gorgeous, beautifully French-inspired bedrooms. The master bedroom has a comfy king size bed, vaulted beamed ceiling, wooden floor and antique French artwork and furniture including a chest of drawers dating from 1810 with its original marble top. The second bedroom has a zip-and-link bed which means it can be made into either a king bed or twin beds and lovely beamed, vaulted ceilings. Both bedrooms have gorgeous Kate Forman fabrics and luxurious bedding.

Bathing

There's both a shower room and a bathroom - the shower is a walk-in shower whilst the pretty French-inspired bathroom has a sumptuous free-standing roll top bath for blissfully long soaks. Additionally, there are heated rails in both rooms to ensure towels are kept warm and fluffy.

Outside space

To the back of the property through the stable doors is a small but perfectly formed courtyard garden with bistro table and chairs for a spot of alfresco dining. Handily, there's also a large shed with two bicycles for your use, and it's an ideal spot to hang wet coats, muddy boots or to put dirty dogs in after a long walk.

Parking

There's on street parking available in the nearby square or you can park in the car park nearby and walk back to the cottage through the pretty churchyard.

April Cottage has WiFi so if you need to stay in touch with the outside world you can.

Autumn in Devon

Bid farewell to summer in style. One of the most spectacular seasons for its food, festivals and natural finery, we can’t resist autumn in Devon.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about April Cottage:

April Cottage a really cosy, serene place if you want to get far from the madding crowds. There are no road or train noises to wake you up and no light pollution. This is truly rural! How lovely it was that the only noises were the bird song and occasional bleating nearby! It’s a very well equipped cottage in the kitchen and utility room and even has two bicycles for guest use. The large bath is a lovely addition and both bedrooms are very comfortable and nicely appointed. There is an historic dining room area which we used several times as well as the kitchen diner. We were delighted with a bunch of lovely roses and classy welcome hamper on arrival. The neighbourhood of Drewsteignton is friendly if you want to talk to people. We have now become shareholders in the local pub which will reopen as a cooperative in March 2024!

What a fabulous 10 days we have spent here at April Cottage (on our honeymoon). The cottage is so cosy, beautiful and well equipped. And thank you so much for the welcome pack. We are really sad to leave, but hopefully in the future we will return again. Once again thank you so much.

Perfectly appointed cottage; really generous, well-judged welcome basket (and a friendly welcome from the caretaker across the road). Super comfortable beds. And the location could not be surpassed. This was definitely an unbeatable stay (even though it rained every day!). Thank you.

The cottage was beautifully furnished with flair and eclectic taste. Very French in feel and sympathetic to the overall sense of the property. Wonderful original wood panelled screen . The kitchen was adequate but lacked the finesse of the living areas- flooring not in keeping with the rest of the building. Dishwasher not working properly note left explaining it wasn’t functioning correctly , and we found some pans had been left dirty and oily. We hand washed everything as we were advised by owner that the dishwasher was not removing grease etc. This was ok for 2 but a family would struggle. All the bathroom towels were very hard and a bit stale not as one would expect for a property of this standard. The welcome pack on arrival was very caring with all essentials covered and fresh flowers as an extra kind touch. Some items sourced locally rather than all supermarket may be a nice idea for future guests.

Loved the cottage, beautifully decorated and good location to explore Dartmoor. Fingle Bridge was a lovely spot to walk by the river and for hot chocolate and Devon Apple cake At the pub overlooking the river. Lovely and thoughtful welcome pack provided.

As always , another beautiful cottage from Boutique Retreats ! So glad we discovered you ! April Cottage is a stunning little gem set in a pretty location . Stephen was super helpful . The fresh flowers and hamper was a lovely touch . Thank you !

We spent a long weekend in April Cottage with our son and his partner. The cottage was absolutely perfect in a beautiful spot and very well equipped as all Boutique Retreat properties are. Gorgeous small courtyard where we were very lucky to be able to spend the evenings. Cottage was very spacious and furnished extremely well. Would definitely recommend.

April Cottage is a must if you are looking for peace and tranquillity away from the hubbub. It is a comfortable, characterful house in a really beautiful location and only a short walk away from some natural wonders.

Wonderful cottage in a wonderful location, would highly recommend.

We would happily stay in the cottage again!

Lovely stay, cosy romantic cottage and beautiful scenery. Thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend.

It can be a nervous time when you step into a holiday cottage for the first time but April Cottage met all expectations - it was a great base from which to explore the surrounding area

It was like spending a week in my dream cottage in my dream area!

Wonderful cottage and very cosy and comfortable. Recommend the fingle gorge walk/run just around the corner and a mooch around Chagford.

Absolutely beautiful. Loved it.

So cosy with beautiful countryside and walks nearby

We had a brilliant stay at April cottage. The cottage is beautifully decorated with lots of space and the generous welcome package on arrival a lovely touch. The cottage is in a brilliant location to explore Dartmoor with fingle bridge & castle drogo on the door step and the village of Drewsteignton is very quiet, we heard no noise from the neighbours or outside during our stay. We would love to return again.

Absolutely idyllic cottage in the Devon countryside, superbly furnished to an extremely high standard. Every small comfort is catered for and even a very wet week didn't spoil our enjoyment.

All round excellence

It was a perfect for a couple. Very pretty and charming cottage close to a local pub, a restaurant and local shop. It was perfect for us

All of the above - it was lovely.

April cottage is a delightful property furnished to a very high standard with French vintage style furniture. It sits in a peaceful location on the edge of Dartmoor with good walks within easy reach. It is extremely comfortable and relaxing.

The special added touches like fresh flowers champagne bread butter milk etc was excellent

April cottage is just gorgeous and we couldn’t fault it in any way! We spent 2 weeks there and could quite easily have stayed forever. We found April cottage to be so well equipped, supremely comfortable, warm and cosy and spotlessly clean on our arrival. The cottage was far more spacious than we had expected and truly exceeded our expectations. Can’t wait to come back again!

Warm and cosy in Winter

Just a perfect Devon cottage.

Stunning little gem of a cottage in a sweet village - we’d definitely stay here again!

Beautifully decorated. Champagne and cake on arrival - lovely. Great location for exploring. The village pub is about as traditional as we have encountered. Very warm welcome from the landlady and locals. Interesting church in the village too. We would recommend!

Comfortable historic cottage, beautifully appointed with lots of pretty design features. Characterful village with a bustling local pub and shop for essentials.

A super little place. Chocolate box pretty & as we had hoped. Thank you

Lovely cottage, beautifully furnished, in a brilliant location. We were very sad to leave.

A wonderful stay in this charming character cottage. Located in a quaint village in the moors. Great fully functioning kitchen with extras like a Nespresso machine. Lots of things to see and do nearby too. A perfect UK break!
