This lovely countryside escape lies in the heart of Dartmoor, close to the oh-so-pretty village of Chagford and is a perfect retreat for couples, families, and friends alike.

Surrounded by unspoilt wilderness and within the heart of a working farm, Pastourelle, named after a lyrical poem about a shepherdess, is a wonderful escape from the hustle of everyday life and has been lovingly brought to life by the co-investors of 'The Dartmoor Shepherd', a fabulous team looking to restore and revive our ancient sheep breeds.

Step inside and you'll find a homely, luxurious retreat pulling inspiration from the surrounding countryside. We just love the open plan sitting and dining room - perfect for entertaining - whilst three stunning bedrooms offer an escape at the end of the day.

Situated to the east of Dartmoor, this wonderful holiday home is perfect for exploring this incredible Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - a real balm for the busyness of everyday life.

Living

The stunning sitting room is just a delight, with dual aspect windows creating lots of light and two oh-so-comfy sofas and an armchair to sprawl on at the end of a busy day exploring. A flickering, grand wood burner is the heart of the room and is just a delight as twilight descends into night, creating a cosy haven. In addition, there's a pretty wooden desk should you need to make your stay into a bit of a workcation, or simply to write and paint, as the wild beauty of Dartmoor inspires.

Competitive types will adore the games room, where you'll find a pool table, table tennis and table football to keep you amused for hours!

Eating

The kitchen lies next to the entrance and boasts striking cabinets and sparkling white worksurfaces. With everything a budding or professional chef including a large Rangemaster electric three door oven with a five-ring hob, Smeg fridge, Smeg washer dryer, Smeg dishwasher, plus all the other essentials including a Nespresso coffee machine with pods, milk frother and hand mixer. The perfect setting for rustling up amazing feasts using the best local produce - delicious!

The gorgeous dining area lies next to the sitting room and is perfectly situated to make the most of the French doors that lead out into the garden, with pretty views to gaze at whilst you eat.

Sleeping

Take the stairs up and you'll discover three stunning bedrooms to choose from. The master bedroom, in romantic, vintage shades of damask pink, has a sumptuous super king size bed for long, luxurious lie ins. A pretty window seat, overlooking the garden and fields beyond, offers a quiet spot for catching up with a book or your thoughts. In addition, there's a chest of drawers and a dressing table. We just love the antique bird prints that line the walls.

The second bedroom is a cosy double with Velux window and chest of drawers, a wonderful spot to retreat to at the end of the day, whilst the third bedroom is a delightful twin, complete with French-inspired beds, built in wardrobe, chest of drawers, desk and dressing table - perfect for little ones or friends staying together.

All the beds come swathed in The White Company linens, super-luxurious bedding, cushions and throws.

Bathing

There's a delightful family bathroom on the first floor complete with freestanding bathtub and handheld shower. On the ground floor, there's a shower room next to the utility.

Outdoor space

Pastourelle has a sunny terrace to the front and back from which you can gaze over the glorious countryside. There's a table and chairs for alfresco dining, plus a fire pit with grill so it can be turned into a barbeque for the complete outside living experience!

Parking

There's private, off road parking for up to three cars.

Babies and children

Pastourelle welcomes children over the age of five.

Dogs

Up to two dogs are very welcome at Pastourelle, but they must be always kept on a lead outside, due to the property being situated on a working farm and roaming free range chickens and guinea fowl. A field is allocated for handy dog walking and where they can run freely. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

Stabling

There are stables on site should you wish to bring your horse with you, to be organised directly with the owners.

WiFi

Pastourelle has WiFi so if you need to stay in touch with the outside world, you can.

In the Area

You couldn't ask for a more unspoilt, hidden away spot than Pastourelle. Hidden away on Dartmoor, this part of the countryside remains beautifully untouched so during spring you'll be treated to blankets of snowdrops and bluebells, wildlife galore during summer and autumn and the most spectacular scenery over winter months. There's plenty of places to explore such as Becky Falls, Lydford Gorge and Wistman's Wood - all stunning examples of nature. Of course, there are lots of walks to be discovered too all over the moors, exploring the many Tors that dot the impressive landscape. Dartmoor has lots of lovely villages too - Chagford has lots of great places to eat and shop as well as an open-air swimming pool, whilst Lustleigh and Widecombe-in-the-Moor are extremely pretty. Head to Ashburton for its award-winning delu and antique shops. Other places of note nearby is Bovey Castle with its own spa and golf course and Gidleigh Park - both wonderful places to eat and relax. Exeter isn't far away and is a beautiful city with awe-inspiring cathedral, brilliant shops and plenty of places to eat. Totnes is also worth visiting with its alternative vibe and excellent steam railway which runs from Totnes to Buckfastleigh, via Staverton. If you fancy a day at the coast, the surf beach of Bantham is less than an hour away.

Tucked away in the dramatic Dartmoor countryside, our dog friendly homestay promises stunning interiors, offering the perfect escape for nature lovers.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Pastourelle:

The old dairy has had a beautiful renaissance with stylish furnishings and bathrooms. The kitchen is well-equipped and has a lovely view over the grounds - and particularly a beautiful beech tree. It really is in a fantastic setting with lots of light flooding the main room. Tessa and Rory were very welcoming and it was nice to see them nearby without being intrusive. We had everything we needed and loved the house and the whole area.

It was a beautiful place and the house was big and comfortable. We loved the views and the many places to sit. The bed in the big bed room was very comfortable but best of all was Dartmoor itself.

Amazing family friendly cottage at an amazing location!

Pastourelle exceeded our expectations in every way. We arrived to find the fire alight, lamps on, gin/tonic and lemons - even ice in the freezer. There were delicious basics like bread, milk, butter, jam, biscuits and fresh farm laid eggs. The view was wonderful, the solitude delightful and we hated to leave. There are many villages and restaurants close by but we loved the house so much and it has such a wonderful kitchen that we chose to eat in every night and enjoy the luxurious comfort of Pastourelle. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner Tess and she is absolutely delightful. We shall recommend Boutique Retreats and Pastourelle to anyone we know going to the UK.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely location tucked away within rolling fields, private and secluded and within easy drive to visit the surrounding villages, local swimming pools and lovely strolls on Dartmoor. All made that much more special for lovely hosts/owners who are available if you need any help. Highly Recommended .

Beautiful, Tranquil location. The horses were amazing and we enjoyed making a fuss of them. We felt instantly relaxed on arrival. The cottage was beautiful and the fresh flowers were a gorgeous touch.

Pastourelle is exceptionally well appointed and decorated to the highest standard. The location on the edge of the moor is magical both dramatic and peaceful at the same time whilst the garden and surrounding areas are very well maintained. The hosts (Rory and Tess) are very thoughtful and do their best to both offer the opportunity for visitors to be part of the local community and to enjoy the peaceful retreat that the property offers.

A stunning cottage in stunning countryside - a perfect break.

We absolutely loved our stay at Pastourelle. The barn is gorgeous and so comfortable with everything you need for adults and children. The location is stunning and Rory and Tess and could not have been better hosts.

A beautiful house in the most magical of settings, we had a wonderful week and did not want to leave!

A very unique and glorious home.
