With stunning living spaces and three beautiful bedrooms to choose from, two of which lie on the ground floor, this is a wonderful setting for couples, family gatherings or a getaway with friends.
Taking its name from the Latin word for an oak tree, the beauty of nature lies at the very heart of Quercus. This beautiful abode rests between Haldon Forest and the Teign Valley in perfect harmony with its unique setting, where twelve acres of outstanding tranquillity wait to be explored. A true retreat into nature; wander within wildflower meadows or follow the path alongside France Brook and enjoy hearing the trickling stream and the wind in the trees. From starlit nights in the bubbling hot tub to toasting marshmallows beside the firepit, only life's most magical moments reside at this nature lover's dream.
Living and eating
Step inside our gorgeous abode to uncover a realm of romantic rusticity, thoughtfully curated with beautiful interiors, designed to the make the most of this elegant retreat's original features. The stunning, open plan kitchen is a perfect space for entertaining, where traditional country interiors meet the luxuries of modern living. Adorned in neutral tones with a glorious, beamed ceiling and luxe farmhouse style, paired perfectly with the distressed metal kitchen island and equipped with everything you could need to rustle up a feast. From the wall mounted double fan oven and induction hob, to a Smeg dishwasher and the all-important coffee machine - this space is simply a culinary delight. The dining space lies at the opposite end, with a large table for decadent dining set beside a handsome wood burning stove. Open the French doors to welcome the outside in and gaze over Quercus' beautiful setting for the ultimate dining experience.
Follow the wooden staircase up to a grand living room, where a breath-taking vaulted ceiling and magnificent beams create an air of spacious comfort and tranquillity. Offering plenty of seating with two sumptuous sofas and two comfy arm chairs in calming shades, along with three cosy chairs set on a raised area looking out westwards, perfect for watching the setting sun across the distant hills. Settle in for snug evenings beside the wood burning stove and look out for the deer often grazing in the evening- bliss!
There's also a Smart TV with movie package for catching up on your favourite series, along with a SONOS sound system for creating the soundtrack to your getaway.
Sleeping
There are three fabulous bedrooms to choose from at Quercus, all of which promise decadent interiors and luxurious comforts to ensure only the most blissful slumbers. The huge master bedroom resides upstairs, where a lavish super king bed awaits, enveloped in soft linens, bedding, cushions and throws. Dressed in a chic Scandi-style beneath the spellbinding vaulted ceiling, this bedroom is a truly stunning space to unwind at the end of the day. It is an aesthetic treat for the eyes, the fireplace, two cosy chairs in addition to having a sweet study area, create a sanctuary of curated cosiness.
Bedrooms two and three lie downstairs, both offering the option of being set up as super kings or twin beds, adorned in soothing neutral tones and luxurious linens for tranquil moments. Both bedrooms promise plenty of storage space, a lovely collection of rustic interior touches and thoughtfully selected curios, with bedroom three offering the addition of a desk space.
Bathing
The master bedroom offers an en suite bathroom with an elegant bath and walk-in shower adorned in a soothing interior style, with a heated towel rail to ensure towels are kept toasty.
There's a family bathroom downstairs featuring a walk-in shower as well as a heated towel rail to keep your towels fluffy and warm. You'll also find an additional toilet facility downstairs at the end of the utility room.
Office
There is a separate office for anyone who does need to touch base with the outside world during their stay.
Outdoor space
Step outside this heavenly homestay to uncover the garden of dreams, where the glorious decking area looks out over endlessly rolling country scenes. A stunning meadow lies adjacent to the retreat, beyond which roams a wild herd of majestic fallow deer - truly magical. A wonderful table for six sits on the decking, just perfect for dining al fresco on those warmer evenings, plus a lovely table for four ideally placed beneath the veranda for sheltered brunches under the canopy. Four luxurious sun loungers lay on the decking, allowing for relaxed recliner moments on balmy summer days. There is even a well-placed heated copper shower beside the house for a pre tub wash, or it can be used to clean off any muddy dog paws (please note, the shower will not be available during the winter months).
From the enclosed garden, you can follow the idyllic mown path round through to the wildflower meadow, which remains perfectly enclosed to keep dogs in. Beyond the gate you you will find the fire pit, where you can embrace the quietude of nature beneath starlit skies, toasting marshmallows on the flickering flames. Follow the stony path from the decking to find the secret electric wood-fired hot tub is nestled in the dreamiest spot, overlooking the wooded valley and beyond. Perfectly secluded, delight in the balmy depths of the bubbling hot tub while you admire the far-reaching views of untamed woodland far below. With the thoughtful addition of seating amongst the wildflowers, savour a glass of something special at golden hour, relishing the sweet sound of birdsong and forget the world for a while in this quaint little corner of the world.

Wander the grounds of Quercus with the lovely map provided, or simply follow the trickling stream, where you may wish to indulge in a dose of cold water plunging or allow younger hearts and four legged friends to enjoy the babbling stream. Spend dreamy days pursuing endless paths, discovering lovely picnic spots on summer days within this unspoilt woodland, where nature has been utterly free to flourish. Quercus truly is a haven for the little ones, where they will grow with fond memories spent delighting in the safe freedom of this wonderful piece of countryside heaven, spending carefree days uncovering secret dens and playing endless outdoor games in these fairy-tale grounds. Seek solitude in the luxurious birdwatching cabin nestled deep in Quercus' private woodland, a true sanctuary for lovers of nature. It's also a perfect nook for deer and wildlife spotting. This truly unique dwelling is nothing short of a dream, tucked away between Haldon Forest and the Teign Valley, yet ideally situated in an elevated position to delight in awe-inspiring views. Head to the South Field Meadow to seek beautiful views of grazing cows and the chalky Haldon Belvedere peeking above beautifully verdant green trees in the distance.
Parking
There is off road, private parking available at Quercus and electric car charging facilities beside the covered garage area.
Babies and children
Babies and children are most welcome at Quercus. A travel cot, stair gate and highchair are available on request.
Dogs
Two dogs are very welcome at Quercus. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.
*Please note that due to its unique setting, deer and wildlife roam the surrounding grounds beyond the fenced garden boundary. There is an enclosed section of the garden for dogs, however the remaining acres of beautiful space is not enclosed for dogs.
In the area
Nestled in the Devonshire countryside, our stunning retreat is perfectly located to make the most of the unspoilt, rich rolling landscape that this wonderful corner of the world has to offer. Settled in the chocolate-box village of Higher Ashton, tranquillity is at the heart of this quaint country gem. Take a gentle stroll down to the quintessential local pub, where a twenty-minute walk will find you at The Manor Inn in Lower Ashton. Venture for a day out to Haldon Forest and uncover the thrill of adventure with activities from mountain biking and Go Ape, to wonderful walking trails and the all-important café.
There are plenty of lovely places of interest to visit in the local area, from exploring Canonteign Falls, Fingle Bridge, and Castle Drogo, to local beaches at Teignmouth and Shaldon across the Teign estuary and easy access to the South West Coast Path. With stunning Dartmoor on your doorstep and the city of Exeter just a short drive away, if you can bear to tear yourself away from the beauty of Quercus you will never tire of places to visit and new spots to discover.
