Walk to the summit of Haytor Rock for mesmerising panoramic views, with the award-winning restaurant in the heart of Haytor. Ashburton and Totnes are both a short distance from Akin, with antique shops, independent boutiques, and mouth-watering eateries. Living, eating and dining
Akin's open plan design was made with couples in mind, with a cosy living space, a sleek eating and dining area, plus a sweet reading corner. At the heart of the room, you will find a modern wood burning stove, which creates a snug and inviting space in the colder months. Cosy up on the comfy sofa and enjoy serene retreat moments in front of the Smart TV, streaming your favourite films and box sets. There is also a Bluetooth radio for listening to your staycation playlists of choice. The reading corner promises a soothing sanctuary for curling up with your latest page turner, enveloped in the comfort of the Loaf Squishbag armchair.
Prepare mouth-watering meals in the modern kitchen, with deep blue cupboards and pearly white worktops, complete with a combi oven and microwave, induction hob, fridge/freezer, coffee machine, dishwasher and a wine fridge. Watch your chef at work from the kitchen island, with two seats for romantic meals à deux. A washing machine can be found in the bathroom and a tumble dryer can be found in the stable next door to Akin.
Sleeping and bathing
For moments of rest, retreat to the blissful bedroom, dressed in soothing shades of blue with Scandi furnishings. Located on the lower level, this large and inviting space is simply a dream, with a super king size bed and rattan headboard. Sink into the sumptuously soft linens for celestial slumbers. For storage, you will find a wardrobe, large cupboard and beside tables, plus a dressing table for pampering moments. Step into the ensuite bathroom, a sleek, modern space complete with a large walk-in shower and free-standing bath, promising bubble-topped joy after days spent ambling the moors. There is underfloor heating in the bathroom, and you will also find a heated towel rail to keep towels fluffy and warm.
Outdoor space
The enclosed garden promises a tranquil paradise from which you can enjoy Dartmoor's captivating beauty. Savour sundown moments alfresco on the modern outdoor sofas, with the addition of a parasol and lounging deck chairs for basking in the sunshine in the warmer months. A barbeque can be found for freshly grilled feasts, and a firepit to enjoy cosy evenings beside the flickering flames once the sun has set. Immerse yourself in country living, with access to a private orchard, ponds and woodland. After days spent exploring your heavenly surroundings, retreat to the wood-fired hot tub for evenings of relaxation beneath star studded skies.

There is private, off-road parking at Akin. There is also an electric charging point available for your use.

This is one of our adults only retreats.
Dogs
One small/medium well-behaved dog is welcome at Akin. A dog bed, bowls and towels are provided. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.
Mobile reception
Please note that the mobile reception is limited inside the retreat, but most networks can receive a signal outside of the property.
In the Area
Akin is perfectly positioned to enjoy walks in the great outdoors, with Haytor Rock just a short distance from your retreat, offering breath-taking views at the summit. A twenty-minute walk will find you at The Carpenter's Arms, with hearty home cooked food and local tipples. For fine dining, head to The Rock Inn, an award-winning Dartmoor restaurant. Venture to Ullacombe Farm to experience their delightful café and farm shop, offering a host of locally sourced products and delicious breakfasts. Castle Drogo in the Teign Gorge, with a rich history and dramatic architecture. For retail therapy days, Exeter is only half an hour away, with a host of high street shops and a cathedral with a fascinating history. The historical town of Ashburton is a short distance by car too, known for its abundance of antiques shops, where you can find hidden, unique treasures to take home. The quirky town of Totnes is also well worth a visit, with a host of independent boutiques and fantastic eateries. A forty-minute drive will find you at the sandy beaches of the South Hams, including Blackpool Sands and Bigbury on Sea.
