Living

A waterside hideaway in the heart of one of South Devon's most coveted locations, Avery is completely enchanting. Inside, you'll find a warm welcome in its living area which exudes a peaceful atmosphere with pared-back Scandi vibes and soothing tones. Decorated in soft, neutral hues that tastefully complement its wooden floors and detailing, it has an immediately inviting air which tempts for relaxed hours at home - made all the more lovely by its uninterrupted river views. Cosy up on the plush sofa and hunker down with a book or switch on the Smart TV to find your favourite film and let time slide by care-free. Leading off from the living area is the kitchen, allowing conversation to flow freely as plates are prepared and corks are popped.

Eating and dining

Adjoining the downstairs living area is a pretty kitchen containing everything you need to rustle up your favourite dishes. Enjoying a light, understated colour scheme with creamy undertones and gold inflections, it's a delightful space perfect for the chefs in your party. Along with its wide array of appliances and equipment, a Smeg coffee machine awaits for those slow morning lattes, while the breakfast bar with four stools is perfect for gathering and dining throughout the day.

Sleeping

The master bedroom is a sumptuous room decorated with deep, slatey blue walls and an off-white ceiling for a dreamy, decadent ambience. For nights of easy, restful slumber, its king-size bed is swathed in super-soft linens, while the alcove window affords gorgeous views of the river from dawn till dusk - encouraging you to linger in bed just that little bit longer. This room is completed with wooden side tables, drawers and a built-in vanity unit. The second bedroom, a lovely twin room, has bunk beds with a separate trundle, perfect for little ones. Designed with soft tones and splashed with colour, this bright and cheerful space promises a cosy nest and also boasts its own ensuite bathroom.

Bathing

Upstairs you will find the beautiful en-suite bathroom of bedroom two, designed with dressed wood panels and striking wallpaper for a playful, exotic edge. Idyllic for bubble-topped soaks, a freestanding bath with shower head awaits here, wonderful for relaxing after days of exploration. Heading downstairs, you will also find an additional bathroom. Light and airy, it contrasts white tiling with a black statement towel rail and shower door for a modern twist on the traditional. So that you can immediately wrap up in the warmest, fluffiest towels, both bathrooms have a heated towel rail.

Outdoor space

With its incredible riverside setting, Avery draws you outside to make the most of its stunning views and location. With private terraces and a jetty located just across the lane from Avery's front door, you can waste no time in taking up a pew by the water in this yachty idyll and settling into the chilled-out rhythm here. Dip your toes in the water or relax around the outdoor table and chairs and enjoy a soundtrack of lapping water and a backdrop of unadulterated beauty. Whether you're ready to cook up a feast on the firepit, watch boats meander up and down the river or simply savour a glass of something special over a South Hams sundowner, heavenly moments reside here. You will also find a pizza oven for mouth-watering Italian delights.

The Longest Beaches in Cornwall

Cornwall is home to many beautiful beaches: the golden frontiers between land and sea. But which are the longest beaches in Cornwall, and where can you find them?

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Avery:

Our stay at the Retreat was very peaceful and comfortable. The view is spectacular and a lovely place to relax and get away from it all..

Beautifully decorated, very comfortable cottage in great location. The waterside garden is lovely and we enjoyed being able to walk and paddle board from the house. This is a really special holiday home.

Great escape, fabulous location! We will be returning at some stage.

Avery Cottage exceeded our expectations! The cottage has been renovated to a beautiful standard & has all you need for a fantastic staycation! We spent the entire weekend in the garden, watching the yatch club races, people sailing & we even took our paddle boards with us to enjoy! We cooked breakfast, lunch & dinner outside on the BBQ & thoroughly enjoyed the fire pit over looking the water every evening with a glass of wine. We would LOVE to return!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for our stay at Avery! What a WONDERFUL little place! So perfectly formed... I was blown away by what you had done to the place and the clever and BEAUTIFUL interiors... it was a treat to be there!! And as for Newton ferrers and Noss Mayo, well I never wanted to leave. I could walk from one to the other round and round for days!! We will be back!

everything was marvellous

Perfect cottage to enjoy a break from the ordinary…

Beautiful little cottage in a fabulous location

Just a superb cottage, location, comfort & views to die for and beautiful village. Lovely & clean on arrival

We really enjoyed our stay at Avery Cottage. Newton Ferrers was a real find. Even in peak season we didn’t find any tourists, only the locals who made us feel very welcome. All three pubs were charming and offered great food, drinks and service.

Avery Cottage is well placed and lovely throughout. The location on the edge of the river with the decking was brilliant for paddleboarding (which we hired locally) and there were also beautiful walks. We were fortunate to be able to watch the rowing heats for the upcoming regatta in the evenings which were brilliant and very entertaining. Lovely sense of community and good pubs too! Would definitely recommend and hope to return.

Nice estuary view.
