Setting

Beside Sylvan, you will find Wynnook, which sleeps two, set ideally next to one another to cater for parties of up to four, whilst offering perfect privacy when the retreats are booked separately. You can view Wynnook here or call us for more information.

Living and dining

The beautiful living spaces of Sylvan are home to a charming open-plan kitchen, dining, and lounge area. Romantically rustic with exposed beams, textured stone, and soothing Farrow and Ball tones, this space promises magical moments from the soft light of dawn to the fading embers of day. In the darling kitchen, find everything you need for curating delicious repasts with ample worktop space and carefully integrated appliances, such as a Dolce Gusto coffee machine, dishwasher, oven, ice machine, and instant boiling tap. For tranquil mornings, a breakfast island calls with two industrial-style stools, while candlelit suppers are best savoured over the bistro table.

Adorned in calming blue, taupe and grey hues, the adjoining living area is simply a dream with an inviting L-shaped corner sofa and matching loveseat. Bask in fireside moments by the crackling wood burning stove, ready to seek entertainment from the Smart TV or boardgame pursuits. Curating staycation playlists is a Bluetooth speaker, while adding decorative touches are thoughtful interior details throughout.

An additional dining area for four can be enjoyed when booked with our adjoining retreat, The Nook.

Sleeping and bathing

Head upstairs to uncover the beautiful bedroom in soft sage tones. Irresistibly cosy, a super king bed takes centre stage beneath characterful beams, ready to be transformed into twin beds upon requirement. Dressed in the highest quality linens and topped with sumptuous cushions and throws, it welcomes serene slumbers and slow mornings overlooking garden views. For stowing treasures is a wardrobe and chest of drawers, while an occasional table and chair propose relaxed moments with an aromatic cup of something warming.

The bathroom lies on the first floor close to the bedroom, where heated floors and towel rails exude warmth. For dreamy self-care rituals, a wood-clad vanity is topped with a large vessel sink, while a deep, freestanding bath with elegant curves calls for soothing soaks. You'll also find a large walk-in shower for refreshing morning pick-me-ups.

Outdoor space

For the lovers of alfresco moments, Sylvan's outdoor space promises peaceful mornings and golden hour feasts. Residing at the front of the cottage, two reclining chairs and a coffee table welcome quiet spells with literature and lattes. Meanwhile, a bistro dining set lends itself perfectly to sun-soaked repasts and starlit moments.

In the Area

Just a few miles from the Cumbrian coastline and fringes of the Lake District National Park, Sylvan is perfectly placed for soulful sojourns. Venture to nearby Cockermouth for colourful townhouses, boutique cafés, and welcoming shops, or escape to the coast to uncover charming oceanside towns and miles of beaches, wildlife-rich salt marsh, and clifftops that make for beautiful backdrops to days by the shore. Nearby, the town of Maryport overlooks the Solway Coast and awaits with a plethora of attractions, from the Lake District Coast Aquarium and Senhouse Roman Museum to a dog-friendly shingle beach. Elsewhere, the golden sands, coastal walks, and sea-view golf course of St Bees are a welcome sight for nature lovers.

To continue your fairytale foray, uncover the heavenly vistas and inspiring mountainscapes of the Lake District National Park just a few miles away. Home to the highest mountain, deepest lake, and some of the oldest forests in the country, this magical realm promises unrivalled exploration. Particularly beautiful, Bassenthwaite National Nature Reserve lies within easy reach of Sylvan and is beloved for its glacial lake hugged by tree and fern-brushed fells. Take a spot on its shores for alfresco picnics, or pursue adventures with paddleboarding, kayaking and hiking in this spellbinding setting. To seek replenishment, the Michelin Star Cottage in the Wood resides in Whinlatter Forest, Bassenthwaite, and tempts with exquisite menus woven with seasonal Lakeland produce. Slightly further afield, the Michelin Star Forest Side is found in Grasmere and is equally tempting for delectable dishes and candlelit ambience.
